The battle was already going badly. Round one and Plaation was getting the crap knocked out of it. The chubby little pokemon held a long term advantage he wasn't sure he could over come with just Plaation . He'd need to push the battle onward before he could tell if he could turn the battle back around. Plaation had taken a fairy bad attack and lost its twisted spoon. "Not good, Plaation, Zen headbutt!" The steel type rushed forward with blinding speed slamming into the opposing pokemons face directing its horn to the point of impact. He had trained his pokemon to take every advantage they could and that included a few other wise dirty tricks.
XWhitney closed one eye and pouted as her pokemon took a hit, but quickly jumped and planted her feet apart, hands clenched by her sides. "Shake it off, Lickitung! And counter with another Knock Off attack!" she ordered. "T-tung---!" The pokemon had rolled back, bouncing back up, but flinching instead of lounging out for an attack. "Whaaaa~~!?!" Whitney's shoulders dropped as her pokemon failed on its attack, her knees buckling in and her arms falling limp at her side. Dang it! Well that was certainly one way to level the playing field!

"Again, knock it back then retreat back. Plaation couldn't take many more hits like that one and keep going. He estimated the steel type had maybe another two attacks left before it would give out and he'd still be stuck on the first opposing pokemon. Something had to give or else he'd be fighting an up hill war rather then a gym battle. "Plaation again, Just hold on as long as you can!" The bulk of his battle strategy was now worthless. Plaation was suppose to end the first round with a victory going into Grindda to win the second with Hoow'brumna ending the third or if worse came to be he was going to fall back on Brimja but now, now his battle strategy had to be rewritten on the fly. This was a reoccurring theme with gym battles.

"I told you I wouldn't be easy!" she cheered, wearing a big grin as she lowered her hand, and then pointed a finger towards Plaation. "Let's change it up a bit with Ice Beam, Lickitung!" she commanded, giving a playful wink and a tilt of her head.
Lickitung jumped back this time, opening his maw wide as blue-white energy gathered, and then blasted out, hitting Plaation hard, but breaking easily against his metallic skin. Not nearly as effective as her other attack, but it was enough to chip away at his health.

What was this, a change in tactic's ? Was she trying to be cruel by trying to freeze his pokemon. More then that though he now knew what pokemon not to use in the next round. It left only a limited rang of options but it was better then going in blind. "Stay the coarse and hit them harder then ever before !" The attack landed but again to no avail. The gym leader had given him an opening but Plaation just couldn't go the distance and after landing its attack lay on the ground unable to get up. Any further attacks would need to be ranged if plaation was able to keep going that was.

She suddenly straightened up, then tilted her head to the side with a smile. "Y'know, I didn't get your name!" she commented. She'd been so ready for the challenge, she'd completely missed that he hadn't introduced himself!

As the battle raged on both sides resorted to heavy impact attacks rather then the continuous exchanging of blow after blow that permeated round 1. Whitney was as powerful a gym leader as Ohmarow had heared, the strongest he had faces yet. Lossing Plaation drove Grindda above and beyond in order to win the battle. In the end though the already worn down Lickytung fell as Grindda won round.

As the battle drew on Ohmarow saw first hand why so many trainers failed to beat her their first times. She didn't give an inch of ground or allow for any mistakes to be made without dire consequences. When at long last round 2 ended it was with a victory on his side. Grindda had out lasted the opposing Clefairy and with a combination of luck and timing had pulled out ahead in the end knocking the Clefairy out and room to spare so to speak. He was sure he could win the battle now But he still needed to set the battle up to Whitney could regain the lead. She was far to powerful a trainer to lose without saving her Ace for last and bringing the pain when it was due.
