No. This wasn't going to happen. Maebe was far too stubborn to just let this happen right in front of her eyes. She did not roll over and let the world trample over her, she fought it with all of her might. Tooth, nail, claws, everything would dig in and burrow until she was an immovable force.

But she was never, and had never been, an immovable force. She just left scars in the wake of her attempts to hold on.

She let out an accidental choke of a sob when Cami told her that she loved her. It sounded far too much like goodbye for her tastes. She ground her teeth and sent Otto unsubtle eye movements trying to get him to do something. All she got was the sound of his silent betrayal, and his back. His back.

Maebe would have been happy to help Cami move out, if not for the fact she was about to be far too busy tearing new scars into Otto's body.

"NO." She screamed, jumping forward and grabbing him until her nails scratched right through his shirt into his back. "You are NOT walking away from her like this. You.. you.. a*****e." She should have been angry for herself. She knew she should have been. But the overwhelming need to stop him from hurting Cami by any means had caused her to lose her mind, attacking him with vicious abandon. She tried to climb up onto his back, and pull him down to the ground.

"Otto, TELL HER YOU WANT HER TO STAY. DO IT! DO IT!" She screamed, as she hurled tiny, useless fists at his body.

He'd been so tired and heavy, yet fragile and easy to spook. He felt like he was weighed down by hundreds of soaking wet blankets, and housed a cage of bees within his unsteady heartbeat. When Maebe latched on, digging her perfect nails deep into his skin, he let out a scream he'd been holding back the entire conversation. Maebe was on him like a rabid animal, and it took every ounce of what honour he had left in him not to throw her against a wall.

"Get off of me!!" He yelped, prying the girl to get off. She was hitting him, and even if she was smaller than him, it still hurt. Maybe because he was being hit by someone he loved.

"If she wants to leave it's up to her! I never told her she had to go anywhere! I don't get to say what either of you do!"

He finally threw her at the couch, tired of being beat up, mind and body. "She can stay here, but I won't! I've had it with all this! I'm tired of being questioned, tired of being in trouble and I'm tired of fighting you! Just leave me the ******** alone!" His voice broke with every sentence, his patience shattered to pieces.

"I made a mistake. You got mad. And now we ******** dragged Cami into it, and she never ******** did anything! Ya'll are actin' like I wanna leave you, when all I wanna do is figure myself out! Just... just leave me alone!!" His eyes shed tears even he wasn't crying, his voice trembling in frustration.

Sometimes you thought a day couldn't get any more surreal. Couldn't get any worse. Then Maebe Grace Bertrand threw herself onto Otto Graves like an incredibly angry cat, all nails and screeching, and Cami's eyes went as wide as saucers. She wanted to step in, wanted to pull her girlfriend off of her best friend, but didn't know how. Pressing hands against her eyes again she let him yell, let him vent his frustration, and then yelled right back.

"That's why I'm leaving! Maebe stop it. Just...stop. Please. I'm gonna pack my things and go to Mimsy's. We all need space right now, lots of room to breathe, and think, and ******** cry because you bet I'm going to be doing a lot of that and..." Her breath ran out and she took another one, letting loose on another tirade. "And then, when Otto wants me to come back home, he'll ask. When you want me to come back to be your girl, you'll ask." She couldn't talk to Otto directly because it was hurting too much but Maebe...things were alright with Maebe. She thought.

She knew he would let her stay and leave himself to go huddle out in the frozen wilderness somewhere in Canada but this was his home. Never mind that it was hers too, it was his first, and she'd always told him that when the time came he could ask her to leave without any trouble. Never had the Sun expected Maebe to turn on Otto on her behalf! And it really shouldn't have turned her on just a little bit.

Without another word she turned and walked into the bedroom, shutting the door on both of them so that she could pack her things. Either of them could try to knock, or really walk in, but right now she was going to give them both their precious ******** space. Packing was haphazard and she was sure that she'd grabbed some of Maebe's clothing as well as her own, but she didn't care. All of her things were piled in the center of her vivid comforter, the one Otto had purchased just for her, before the bundle was knotted like she was going to put it on the edge of a stick.

Almost all of the glow in the dark stars from the ceiling were pulled off, a few had paint stuck to them still, leaving small holes behind. A lamp was carefully folded up in a sweater and pushed into the center of the mass. The size of her makeshift sack was rather obscene, as were the two bags she'd loaded out with various toiletries and small things she'd bought or been given as presents, dragging it all out into the living room when she was finished packing.

There was nothing to do now but say goodbye.

Maebe slammed into the couch, and laid strewn there for a second, trying not to feel the pain of actual nostalgia surface. She didn't want to remember those things. She didn't want to like this pain. She had to hate it. She HAD to HATE IT.

All he wanted to do was figure himself out. She narrowed her eyes, her expression clearly informing him that everything he spouted was merely bullshit to her, but screaming the words leave me alone had it's intended effect, even if it wasn't exactly how he wanted it. She got back up from the couch, after Cami left. She bent in towards him, and shook her finger angrily at him. Her voice was a whisper, so Cami couldn't hear.

"I don't believe you. I want you to know that. I think you're just looking for reasons to get rid of us. And I think you're lying to yourself even more than you're lying to us. I want you to remember that. I. Don't. Believe you."

She'd whispered it all so close to his face, that her body trembled with more than just rage. She wanted to hate him so badly. She wanted to be disgusted with his very presence. Instead, she desired nothing more than to push him back down on that couch, and show him exactly why he should never leave a girl like Maebe Grace Bertrand.

Her eyes fluttered from his gaze, down to his lips, and she was undone. She forced a kiss laden with too much heat, too much suppressed desire, against his lips. She grabbed his head in her hands and held it there while she drowned in how much she wanted this, and how awful it was to want.

But it was only a moment, and she pulled herself away by sheer force of will, stumbling backwards with that same, narrow eyed glance. She continued to walk backwards, heading for the doorway Cami had just closed in order to deal with the other issue she wasn't going to let go of.

"EXCUSE ME." Maebe screamed, as she opened up the door to the room Cami was in, and shut it quickly behind her. "When I want you to COME BACK to be your girl? Are you ******** kidding me? Are you leaving me too? Because I'm ready to attack you just as quickly as I did that a*****e out there. Do not doubt me, Cami. I'm not losing you, too."

He trembled as Maebe got up close, accusing him of things he didn't care to hear. No. He was telling the truth. But because he had hid something from her, nothing he said would ever be trusted anymore. He'd broken the trust he'd worked hard to earn, and now he was just a....

He was forced with a kiss he didn't want. Not while she was so angry with him. But she had him held in a way he couldn't fight. He didn't have the heart to shove her again. He wanted Maebe, but not this Maebe. He wanted to be kissed by a Maebe who wasn't angry at him. A happy one.

Her threat loomed even after she locked herself in with Cami. Cami was packing her things, and Maebe was gone. Left with alone, Otto finally left the apartment. He left hastily, not even getting his shoes.

He cried as he slammed the door behind him, rushing down the hallway to find somewhere to be. Somewhere not there. Alone. Somewhere... somewhere... Maybe the jungle. A place on the island he could wail and sob without being judged or yelled at. Threatened. Hated. He wanted to be upset, sad and miserable without being told he hadn't a right to be. Because he'd done this to them.

It was all his fault.

In the middle of peeling stars off the ceiling Cami looked down at the screeching blonde in the middle of Otto's bedroom. Arms stayed half-extended for a moment before she tossed the stars into the growing pile of pure stuff that was the center of the massive bed they'd shared for so long. Standing with her legs astride to keep balance in the middle of it she stared down at Maebe and opened her mouth to speak. Then she closed it. Opened it again and made a sound that was almost unidentifiable as any single emotion. It was happiness, sadness, frustration, anger, confusion, and need all mixed together into something unpleasant to listen to.

One foot hit the floor with a thud as she all but lept from the bed before grasping Maebe's abused wrists and using them to push her back against the bedroom wall. "Do not." Then, after a breathless moment, released her. "I'm not leaving you. I never want to leave you. But if you wanted room from me then...I have to give it. Even if I don't want to." Arms slid around Maebe and held on tightly, perhaps too tightly, but Cami couldn't help it.

Her whole world was slipping away and if she could keep just one part of it then she could hope for more. Hope for everything to be alright again some day. "I love you."

Maebe was against the wall and her back sung with pain, tense and tortured and not quite ready for another rough night. She felt Cami's hands around her wrists and she smiled, but the smile faded when the woman spoke. This was love, and not the sick, twisted black hole that she kept sucking people into.

She felt arms wrap around her, and her own mimicked the movement, holding her lover gently in loose arms. Her brain was slow to understand that their moment was healthy, and normal. She couldn't remember what normal was, anymore.

"I don't want room. I want - I want - " She wanted things to be the way they were before all of this. She wanted Otto to come storming through their door and demand they both live with him forever. She wanted her heart to stop hurting. She wanted to believe in something without it crashing down around her.

"I want you." She admitted, pressing a kiss to the crook of Cami's neck. "And I love you, too."

There was a sick, twisted pleasure in enjoying the moment hidden behind the walls of Otto's room. Otto, who could have had it all, if he'd only known what he wanted. They were leaving this apartment, probably forever, but here they were pressed up against one another, warm and needy, claiming the room one last time. She smiled again, and there was no love in that smile. Only lust, and perhaps just a kiss of revenge.

She slid her hands down to Cami's rear, used it to pull her lover flush, and spoke volumes of just how terrible she really was in the look she gave the woman. Deep in those eyes, she told Cami that she would be ready to move out of the apartment, after showing it the respect it deserved.
