At The End of Fear

Nine
User Image~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nine's expression did not change as the guards shackled Gyokuen and lead her from her cell. He didn't care. Safety was being trapped within the walls of this dungeon. In this dungeon no one was a threat to Lucian. It was when he wanted to speak with you that you had to play the great game of words. Especially when you have already made yourself known as his enemy. But it was not as if Nine had no plans. He had counted and calculated almost everything he needed. Only a few more details to be worked out, then escape would be at hand. Nine shuffled slightly and pulled the shard of broken glass from his boot. It was sharp on one end and dull on the other, like a dagger. It would be his escape. Nine slid the crude device back into his boot and sat quietly for a few moments after Gyokuen had been lead out of the dungeon. Then he spoke quietly, knowing she would never hear or answer those statements, it did not matter. His plans were falling into place.

"Time catches up to us all Gyokuen. Failure is a matter of perspective. One can only evade the end for so long. How much longer can you?"

Dameon stormed into the dungeon with a quiet rage building inside of him. He had just barely returned to the kingdom and instead of reporting to Lucian he came down here for one sole reason. Nine.

The man had earlier mentioned the possibility that his wife was been alive. And happened to be right. Had he known? Had Nine been toying with him? Or was he really just guessing and trying to hold out a glimmer of twisted hope? He wanted to know and he WAS going to fine out.

"Nine!" Dameon's voice echoed through the dungeon with anger clear in his tone. He shoved guards out of his way who weren't fast enough to do so and shoving past the dark haired prisoner who he didn't even spare a glance at as he shoved past her and her guard detail and soon he was standing in front of the cell that help the numbered warrior.

"You knew!" he accused as he pointed his finger at Nine.

"You knew she was alive." he said calming himself with a deep breath still glaring at Nine.

Nine was sitting when Dameon stormed into the dungeon. So many visitors in such a short time. Then the accusations began. Dameon shouting and accusing Nine of something he couldn't possibly have done from inside his cell. Things he couldn't have known when he had been imprisoned for so long. When Dameon had calmed himself Nine stood and walked to the bars between them. When he spoke his voice was not horse or scratchy as it had been before, his appearance was not as rugged as it had been seconds ago.

"Dameon there are a great many things that I know. A gift and a curse. Few secrets escape my sight for I have seen almost all of time. In here I can do nothing, all my power stripped away and every moment they are gone is another moment I will have to spend recovering knowledge that I am missing out on now. This prison has blinded me to months of change in the future. Did I know your wife lived?" Nine paused and his appearance became dirty and rugged again. His voice horse and scratchy. "No. I only knew rumors. My wife spoke to me of an ancient friend once before. Your wife's description matched the one my wife I had given me. I did not know, I assumed."

After he had spoke Nine returned to the stone slab in the corner and sat down. He had let his guise slip for a moment. He was a prisoner, he had to remain that way. He had to continue speaking in a scratchy voice. He had to appear as dirty and rough as the other prisoners. He could not reveal the endgame yet.

His brow twitched as he heard Nine's words. "So your wife knew. If she knows then perhaps Eleven knows? Maybe I should go ask him." he said darkly as he mumbled the last part but continued to glare at Nine. But his glare faltered however as he chuckled slightly as he felt his anger begin to fade and slowly his chuckle turned into a genuine laugh.

"You truly are interesting. I can't read you like I can most people. In that regard you are very much like your father." he paused as he shook his head. "Perhaps you've heard of a child in her care? Perhaps a companion of some kind?" he asked hesitantly as he leaned his head upon the bars of the cell as the memories washed over him. "She was pregnant when I...and she were cursed. I died not long after and when I finally revived several hundred years later I thought them dead. But now I learn that my wife is not only alive and well but also my enemy? I have to know if my...our child survived."

He looked back at Nine, his eyes revealing the Dameon of long ago before he fell into what he was now. Dameon knew it was unwise to appear vulnerable before an enemy but he couldn't help but feel comfortable speaking with Nine. The man was older than him, had more experience and wisdom and it was only natural that the younger seek wisdom and guidance from them. Of course it didn't help that Dameon's mind was still an emotional wreck after his meeting with his wife which was currently clouding his judgement and making him act brashly.

Nine sat silently in his cell. He would give Dameon nothing more. No clues, no hints, no solutions. He would simply say one word. "Patience." After which he left the room in silence. He would not respond again. Far too much had gone into his life here. Far to much had gone into his studies in this dungeon. He would give nothing more to anyone. no information he could hold against them. Nine adopted silence.

With a snarl Dameon punched the wall next to Nine's cell and the look in his eye had faded once Nine had spoken. His emotions were currently running rampant and his thoughts were clouded and he knew he needed to get them under control lest he do something he could come to regret.

"Fine." he said with a calming breath, his anger spent. He collected himself as closed his eyes and shut his emotions away for now. He needed to inform Lucian of his return.

"Just know your own child, Eleven, currently works for Lucian." Dameon said though he however had not actually met the boy as he had only heard of him in passing or mentioned. Perhaps he should seek the boy out? See if he knew anything. With that thought in mind Dameon quickly left the dungeon and headed for the throne room where Lucian would no doubt be sitting idle upon his throne.

The hallways were empty as Eleven descended the stairways towards the dungeons which held his father. The invasion had begun and now was the time to act. When he finally made it down the winding staircase of nearly one thousand steps, Eleven nodded slightly to the guards and walked past them towards his father's cell.

"Is it time?" Nine asked as he stood and moved towards the cell bars where Eleven awaited him.

"It is." Eleven responded quietly before Nine reached through the bars and took hold of Eleven's shirt. With a tight grip Nine pulled Eleven towards the bars slamming his son's head into them. Eleven's forehead bounced off the bars and the numbered son fell limp onto the floor. The guards in the dungeon surged forward, nearly two dozen men all moving towards one cell. Nine reached down and pulled the broken shard of a cup from his boot before throwing it like a dagger through the opening between the bars of the cell. The shard pierced a guard in the narrow opening between his chest plate and helmet, killing him. "Now!" Nine shouted as he moved backward in his cell as if to try and avoid a splash zone.

As the guards rushed forward, blinded by rage, Eleven stood quickly tripping one of Lucian's soldiers and stealing his sword. The numbered son let out a wind swing slitting the throat of a nearby guard as the rest reeled backwards to avoid the strike. Eleven did not relent. He pressed forward driving his blade into the chest of another guard yet he was unable to pull it free before someone swung downward with the intent to cut off his arm. Eleven was forced to abandon the sword or abandon his arm so he let go of the sword. However he then jabbed the man who had tried to take his arm in the armpit hitting at least two pressure points that caused the guard to drop his sword. Before the sword could touch the floor Eleven plucked it out of the air and drove it upward through the sword's owner's jaw and skull. Eleven abandoned this sword as well to pull his first sword out of the corpse's chest.

By now the guards had realized what was happening and they sent for reinforcements however Eleven threw his sword through the messengers back before the man could get far. Then the numbered son jabbed a guard in the throat and pulled his sword away just in time to block an incoming blow from another guard. How many had he counted? Nearly two dozen. He had only killed four so far. Eleven pushed a guard back and kick another in the groin before turning and decapitating a third. Realizing he would need aid soon eleven pulled the keys off of a corpse's body and tossed them backwards into Nine's cell.

Nine was glad he had moved backwards in his cell because the bars were currently a splash zone for the blood of Eleven's enemies. Seeing the key Nine wasted little time in undoing the chains that bound him and opening his cell door. As the battle raged around him Nine moved silently behind the guards taking a sword from one of the dead. Nine stood quietly looking for an opening and then he entered the battle with a rush. He drove his sword through the back of a guard and ripped it out to decapitate another one moments later. Eleven on the other hand was taking a more complex approach, he was stabbing knees and shoulders of guards who came near him while Nine was cutting through the hearts of those in the back. They were leading the fight, spreading it throughout the dungeon and towards the stairway leading up to the throne room.

Eleven crushed one guard's head in his helmet by smashing two rocks together after being disarmed. Nine cut down another guard, and Eleven crippled another. This was how the battle progressed, until each of the guards lay dead on the floor. Nine and Eleven looked at each other amiss the carpet of corpses and exchanged a slight nod before Eleven tossed his sword aside.

"Are you sure this is how you want it to go? You could still run with me. I can set the rune on the cave. Lucian won't be able to come for us until we want him too." Nine asked Eleven as he stepped over and around the bodies, making his way towards the archway leading into the dungeon. Eleven did the same.

"I am certain. This way I stay on as the spymaster and can continue funneling information out to the rebels." Eleven explained as the duo stopped just outside the archway. Nine gave Eleven a slight nod again before driving his sword through Eleven's stomach. His son gasped slightly in pain and his eyes widened but the real pain came when Nine twisted the blade an ripped it out. Eleven stumbled slightly before Nine pushed him through the archway, enabling Eleven's powers now that they had left the area of the rune's effect. Eleven fell down onto the stairs with a thud and rolled slightly to look up at his father who then knelt down and snapped Eleven's neck.

"I hope this works out well for you then my son." Eleven's body began to glow and radiate a black steam. The glowing grew brighter and brighter until it blocked out all of Eleven's features and then it faded revealing a new face and body. A very different face. Eleven did not yet awaken though. Nine tilted his head slightly at his son's new face. "You look a little like me." Nine mumbled before turning and making his way up the stairs and out of Valaria. To anyone who came in it would seem as if Nine had broken free of his bonds and slaughtered every guard in the dungeon. Then murdered the spymaster when he came to investigate and Eleven had simply regenerated, escaping death.

Dameon entered the dungeon with Ivy in his arms with calm face despite the fact that there were several dead bodies lying around. The bodies were cold but not yet in the state of decomposition which meant the fight in within the halls had happened while they had invaded the Zaibatsu. The second thing he noticed was the opened cell of Nine who was missing with the keys inside of his cell. Dameon ignored this for the time being as he found an empty cell close to Nine's vacant one with powerful runes and quickly placed Ivy inside and locked it. "Sleep well for now my light." he whispered a** he went to investigate Nine's cell.

He had found a set a set of keys inside of Nine's cell. He picked them up and pocketed them for now as he examined the bodies the body count was massive but he examined each one until he found one near the bottom of the pile that had a shard of a glass in the man's neck. The shard was almost completely embedded in the man's body and Dameon tore it out as he examined it and caught site of remnants of the rune he had placed on the cup of water to Nine. That meant Nine had broken the cup and managed to keep a shard hidden from the guards. The ancient human began to look through the bodies and took notice of the different cuts and placement of said cuts.

"Two different fighting styles. Maybe more."
he mumbled to himself until he came to the entrance of the dungeon where a lone man lay unconscious. Eleven. Lucian's spymaster and Nine's son. Odd he looked different but he was alive.

Dameon smacked him in the side with the hilt of his scythe in an attempt to wake him and shook his head as the man remained out cold. He wouldn't get any answers out of him right now. So he went back to examining the bodies and confirmed that yes at least two different fighting styles had been used to kill these men. Did that mean someone had come in and helped Nine escape? Who could infiltrate such a highly guarded prison undetected? Could they have a traitor? If so how many? Dameon shook the thoughts from his head. He had more important things to take care of right now and that was his wife.

He made his way around the bodies and sat across from Ivy's cell and watched as she stirred in her shackles. He would have to somehow get her better cell that had a bit more privacy and comfort. If it meant he had to take her to the dungeon in purgatory then so be it. Meanwhile as he waited for Ivy to wake he pondered on his findings as he pulled out the keys he had found in Nine's cell and examined them. He glanced at one of the many dead guards when and Idea hit him. He could raise one and perhaps find out what happened. He picked up one of the guards and striped him of his gear and placed him in the cell behind him so he could take the body and reanimate it. With that done he leaned against the cell door as he watched Ivy and occasionally glancing over to where the unconscious Eleven laid

A few minutes after Dameon nudged him eleven sat up with a facial expression similar to someone waking up from a hangover. Eleven shook his head slightly and stood using the aid of the wall beside him before entering the dungeon from the stairway. It felt odd having his power stripped away by the dungeon again. every time someone stepped into the dungeon powers were stripped. Unfortunately Nine had destroyed the guards armor which prevented them from being effected by the runes so Eleven would just have to deal with the current lack of powers. Fortunately that meant his thoughts were protected. Eleven had the perfect lie assembled. Three months of planning put into freeing his father, he would be prepared for any eventuality.

The first thing Eleven did was move over to the dead bodies and pick up a sword. Using the blades reflective surface Eleven examined his new face. "A beard? That's.... scruffy. The hair's nice though it has gone worse before. My liver feels a little weird. I will probably get used to it." Eleven was really talking to himself but he wasn't being very quiet. "So then yes, he did kill me." With that Eleven turned and looked at Dameon then Ivy in her cell, and then Dameon again. "Isn't the invasion still happening?"

It didn't take long for Ivy to wake up, the voices echoing throughout the cells made consciousness surface as she laid against the cold cement ground.

Sitting up, she looked around, she didn't know where she was, but she knew how she had gotten here. Dameon.

Looking out the cell bars she saw the two. Dameon and Eleven talking. She was going to make Dameon feel bad for his actions, she was going to make him betray lucian. She didn't care what she had to do, she was going to do it.

Sitting up and propping her back up against the wall, she looked over at Dameon and Eleven. “Hm—the numbered boy—“ She spoke, then looked away from the bars in which she was kept prisoned. “Blonde, his mother is you know? She is considered a rarity among them. The boy beside you, he was blonde as a child. I remember. But if you stay blonde you’re considered to be so beautiful, a man would die to have you.” Ten had told ivy of her land, and how she had been with no man but nine until after they parted. She spoke how men would comment her profession was such a shame, such a loss of beauty, as she was never suppose to be married in the first place, but then was due to politics. “You know, it’s kinda of like redheads Dameon. Have you seen any among these lands?” Ivy raised her brow. There was no way he had, they were uncommon to say the least, not a rarity, but not seen walking around like every other being. She had a point for making this statement, yet she hadn't quite outright said it yet.

"Is there where you kept Nine? Of course it is--" Ivy spoke with an annoyed tone.

Dameon looked to Eleven when he asked about the invasion. "It continues but my part is done. My soldiers attack even as we speak. They have their orders and will perform them even without my presence. My men occupy the town square and my undead are ravaging their ranks. The Zaibatsu is ours. Their king has been dethroned and knocked out of the fight for the city." he looked to Ivy as he spoke in no particular order but spoke the last bit and gazed at Ivy whom was now awake.

"Eleven. Perhaps you could tell me about how Nine escaped? Surely you must know something." He said ignoring Ivy, but his gaze never left her, as she commented on what he assumed was Eleven's mother and referring to herself. He gave nothing away of what he thought had happened or could have happened. He didn't suspect Eleven as he had been unconscious but then again he WAS Nine's son so it was a possibility as Dameon himself had thoroughly beaten Eon and knocked him unconscious not even a few hours ago. But it was also entirely possible that a small task force had infiltrated the dungeon and freed Nine but not for a single second did he believe Nine had escaped on his own.

"So that's Ivy, she is shorter than my reports say she is. Those mistakes will be rectified." Eleven listened to Ivy speak and immediately knew what she was doing. It was a tactic he enjoyed watching and could employ himself sometimes. She was using Dameon's connection to her to build a bridge which she would then use to manipulate Dameon. It was clever, Eleven could respect the move and so he did not out her about it. "Ten may be dramatizing our kind. My father never said there was much emphasis on how someone looked. everything was very orderly according to him." Eleven said in a slight response to turn Ivy's attention off Dameon.

"As for what happened to Nine, well it's a long story. I was in my lab and I heard loud noises coming from the dungeon. Knowing most soldiers would be busy I came down to investigate and found my father out of his cell and armed with a sword. Cutting through the first few men he seemed to try and spare them but towards the last half his strikes became far more heavy handed. He must have been growing tired or impatient. I grabbed a sword and tried to stop him. I failed and he killed me." Eleven's story accounted for everything. The broken piece of cup and guard's body right next to the cell would account for Nine getting the keys. He could have taunted a guard towards the bars and then stabbed the man in the neck before taking his keys and sword. Then Nine would seem merciful early on in the fight which had really been Eleven's strikes. The strikes closest to the cell were aimed mostly to be non fatal but the guards were dead regardless. Then towards the back end the strikes would seem heavier as if he had grown tiered of the fight and simply wanted it to end, which accounted for the possible change of fighting styles. Then Eleven had been passed out just outside the dungeon. Putting that together would not be difficult.

Ivy looked at Eleven as he spoke in the most monotone voice as possible. "Well, you should check your records, because I recall you being born on earth, so there is no sure way for you to know." Ivy was annoyed, the numbered son was trying to make her point unvalid as she began to make an argument. "Eleven do you know of a redhead that would have lived among these lands?" She tried to sway Dameon away wondering what had happened to Nine. Ivy knew. She knew exactly with the numbered pair had planned.

Ivy walked up to the Bars of the dungeon in which she had been kept. She looked at the two then ignored Eleven, focusing on Dameon as she spoke. "When you died, I let the kids live normal life. I love Livy live how she should have as if nothing had happened. She went to school like every other child, she became married, she had kids. And she grew old died--and when Livy died, I wanted to take my own life. I wanted to end it all of Eon too. Anything to not live in a world the way it ways. A never aging son and daughter who grew old. No one wants to live that life." Ivy sighed as she thought about their children, one who he hadn't met till earlier. "Eon held me as i cried for years over her death, something he should have never had to do. But he did. And we stayed apart of her children's life, and her children's children's lives. It was a vicious cycle. I would see my grandkids die, over and over again. I realized finally, this was not what either one of us deserved, so Eon and I moved and I hid him from the world. I didn't let him have friends, I didn't let him fall in love, it would be just disappointment."

Ivy walked back over to the wall and sat down. There was so much more she could tell him about their daughter, everything he had missed out on. "I kept an eye on each generation, while distancing myself from them so I didn't get attached. Hundreds of years ago they settled down on a farm and ran a vineyard. They became apart of a village and sold their wine's and juices. But, they were accused of poisoning their wine, and the villagers killed what was left of our descendants. Except one."

Ivy sighed and laid her head back. "Ellie Diviner. She married into royalty." Her eyes shifted back to Dameon. There was no smile on her face, simply just disappointment. "She looked like Livy. Do you know where Ellie is now? She's dead. Lucian killed her while you took nine hostage--our last living linage from our daughter." Ivy turned her head away from Dameon again. He was evil, just as she had been saying all along. Following a man who kills others, but claims he wants peace. Such a contradictory.

"We have a grandson roaming around somewhere--if he's still alive."

Dameon listened as Eleven began to recite what had happened and sighed. "I see. Very well then." he said evenly as he hunched over and rested his arms upon his legs. "I suggest you inform Lucian at once. He will need to know of this development." he said as he palmed the shard of glass he had found in the soldiers throat. The blood smeared upon his palm as he looked up to Eleven. "Also make sure we get a clean up crew in here and a proper burial for them."

He remained quiet after that as he listened to Ivy talk. His face betrayed no emotion though his eyes hardened when he heard of a decedent of his killed by Lucian. It wasn't as if Dameon knew them. Nor could Lucian have known. If Lucian had known then that would be an entirely different thing but it was unlikely. However the fact remained that the line of Livy had ended at the hands of Lucian. He clenched the shard of glass as it cut into his skin causing black magic to seep out of his hand.

Though her mention of a surviving grandson was defiantly good news. But if that were the case wouldn't he too be of Livy's line? However Dameon stood up as he opened the cell behind him and hefted the dead guard on his back and looked to Ivy once more and stood there for a short bit and sighed.

"Tell me Ivy. What do you think is worse. To have known of your family and decedents and have the ability to watch over them and be able to mourn them or to have no idea if they survived at all and be lost never knowing one way or the other?" he spoke as he looked at Ivy daring her to answer. Even after all this time apart he could read her eyes like an open book. They screamed monster, hypocrite, murderer yet full of hurt and betrayal and perhaps longing?

"Is there more you wanted to say or shall I take my leave?" he asked looking away from Ivy in an attempt to avoid her gaze.

"Oh he will be informed of these developments. All of them." Eleven made no gestures but his eyes drifted down to the calm in which Dameon held the shard of the cup. Then Eleven walked over to the door and passed through the narrow archway so he would be just outside the rune's effects. He sent a volley of mental messages to many of his agents and then walked back inside to Ivy and Dameon. Ivy had mentioned Ellie and her death. Personally Eleven didn't care about their connection to Ellie but he did recognize it as a tool that could be used to bend Dameon and so Eleven had to say something. He had been right there when Lucian slit Ellie's throat. "Dameon, I was there when Ellie was killed. She taunted Lucian clearly trying to anger him and she did not even try to defend herself. She tried to let other fight for her like the queen she thought she was and in the end it did not save her. Take this however you want to but I was there. Plenty of people were there and not one saved her. Nor did Ivy. Plenty of people, plenty of thoughts going out into the world. No one came to save Ellie."
