Remember this onsite advertisement sticky? Some of the info is misleading and people are using linked images to bump threads, some mods are saying it's allowed and some aren't. It's really confusing for myself and others. I was told that these rules would be looked over and possibly updated with a clearer version of the policy but that was a couple months ago... When are we going to get this cleared up?

Yup, that is going to be addressed with a bunch of other forums changes that we'll be doing to the forums.

Why do we have to verify ourselves when we lose in Lake Kindred? I mean it is kind of obvious when you are beat by your opponent.

If I remember correctly, I think it's simply a trigger from the battle ending and not whether you had won or lost.

If it hasn't been asked yet, is there a resolution to the offsite advertising in the Lake Kindred forum?

Unfortunately not at the moment, we're still looking into our options to handle this.

i been noticing that in a lot of forums spam threads are popping up for of offsite adverts. Usually written in Korean.

Are you guys making any headway in stopping this from happeing ?

We're still discussing ideas and ways to try and curb this, but nothing definitive at the moment, sorry.

Does it mean that we are allowed to show our avatars' naked bottom without risking to be banned? emotion_kirakira
(Of course, I guess that the front side is still a different matter.)

I mean, the item's pose lets your butt be naked, what do you think the answer might be? xd

As long as the avatar isn't being positioned where something sexually explicit is going on, it's fine.

I don't have to tell you how annoying the constant spam threads are, and how overwhelmed the mods are in dealing with them. Have you considered giving Forum Assistants the power to simply junk these sort of threads? I feel like that would go a long way in ensuring they're taken care of quickly and without putting more work on the few mods we do have.

This is something we haven't let Forum Assistants handle as they do not handle Terms of Service violations and it would mean additional work for those that are helping to ban the users as we would then have to track down these users instead of picking them from the forums. We understand the spam is annoying and we're working on a solution to hopefully kill it once and for all.

You've mentioned before that you're looking into ways to help cut down the massive spam attacks in forums. How is this going, and can we expect to see anything for it in the near future?

Yes! You can actually expect something in the near future as we are currently developing something that may help curb these attacks. We hate them too. gonk

I've noticed for a long time now that even if a person sets their online status to hidden or friends only, you can still see if they're online when you go to their profile (if they have the status bar). You can also tell their real status by looking at their journal or a PM from them. It doesn't matter whether or not you're actually friends with that person. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of changing your status preference? Is there any reason why it's like this? o 3o

It shouldn't be like this, just means the status wasn't updated everywhere like it should have been.

The spammers are still a big problem. Are there any
plans to tackle the problem more effectively?

While stopping spammers 100% is unlikely due to the numerous methods spam can be done, we have instituted several detection mechanisms to help curb the recent outbreaks. For the past few days incidents have significantly decreased.

On the subject of spammers/bots, I think another user accidently found one of your "detection mechanisms".
(Their post format had a ton of Korean characters in it, setting off the "roasting marshmallows" error)
Just for clarification, was that one of the anti-spam features you implemented? Or something else?

We'll be in contact with that user. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

can we do something about the amount of cheating in the runways?
There are groups of people who vote each other up to win and its not fair to others
there are two that i know of Threads already about it. With this cheating its making me not wanna join the runways.

Also new themes would be nice

We have some ideas of what we want to do with Runway, the "problem" with people voting for their friends is with competitions that have very few entrants, so people inherently have more of a chance to show up.

Can you make rules against threads and guilds whose sole purpose is to get people to vote for them in the arenas and runway? Funneling people to your entries or bribing them to vote you up isn't really fair and it takes the fun away from the people who enter and try to win fairly.

That is certainly something that we can discuss.

In the avatar arena forum and avatar arenas feature some people are being abusive with their comments and they try to say that they aren't being rude or being a bully because they are giving out "constructive criticism". There are ways to give out criticism without being a troll, since it's becoming an issue there has been a thread made to raise some awareness about it X. Do you think you could give out a PSA or something to help stop all the bullying that's been going on?

Sure, we can certainly look into doing a PSA for general abuse.

So I have a question about item's, well some types of items... Gaia is suppose to be a PG 13 site, but with seeing friends around me just disappear without any warnings sent to them. Why is it that Gaia Online has items that have Sexual/Explicit items??? when Gaia is a PG 13 site? Why make Items people can not use in their own way without being told they can't dress like that or they can't make a comment on if someone else looks sexy to them ? I don't see why people can't do what they want, and why can't the mother and father of the children on here can not look after their child? When you watch a PG 13, some of them so have Sexual/Explicit things, Example Disney Channel, Nick, and Cartoon Network, and many other TV shows for PG 13 or Channels for children.

So the main question, I am asking is why do the have items that are Sexual/Explicit, if we the people of Gaia can not use them how we want or get perma Ban for making comments in post that may or may not be Sexual/Explicit???

Well the first thing I want to address is that Gaia Online is not a PG-13 website. PG, G, P-13, R, etc are all ratings used by the MPAA for films, not for websites. Saying Gaia is a PG-13 website is outdated terminology that no longer applies. Simply put, we are a general audience website that is for use by people as young as 13.

Now we do have items that are risque, certainly, however, risque does not mean sexually explicit. You can be sexy and risque without being sexually explicit, we don't mind that. However, when you purposely create an avatar to suggest or imply any sort of sexually explicit behavior is where you cross the line from being simply sexy, to being an actual violation. We've made this distinction pretty clear in the past, that's why we allow these risque items to exist. On their own, they do not do anything sexually explicit.

Item Examples:
Brains Items` ( The Censor Bar), Godina's, Embarrassed Dream, The Items that go over your bit's ( fallen wish , squirrel, and more like them), The item(s) Graveyard Crasher and more items that are like that show you nude, and Bondage Items like a harness ( wicked master's reclaim).

~But yet these items are here but we may not use them how we feel like we can, I am confused when you say that " they do not do anything sexually explicit." But yet they do. Am I wrong ?

Being nude is not sexually explicit. Having your avatar covered up with risque clothing is not the same as equipping items that imply something sexual is being done to your avatar.

I notice a lot of signatures are breaking the ToS. Not just by posting overly large images but by linking to sites (especially tumblr) that contain obvious sexual content. Can you release a PSA reminding users of the signature guidelines and how to check if their images/links fit into them?

Sure, certainly something we can consider doing. We like PSAs!

gaia, the new CAPTCHA sucks. it won't load if you have the core script adblocked. can you make the old way load again?
wait, now it's loading. but still takes a while.

Ad blocks typically block certain CAPTCHAs from loading, so you probably shouldn't be using ad block for that. Similar to how it's not surprising that some offers won't load if you have ad block blocking them.

Many runway users are concerned about issues of alleged cheating going on in this feature. As such, passions have gotten rather heated and it’s become a very touchy subject.

I was wondering if there could be a PSA made informing users about being mindful about making public accusations and what appropriate runway behavior should be. A sticky thread in the runway forum about how to report and respond to suspicious activity would be really appreciated, along with some rules clarifying runway participation. A reminder should also be included that name dropping alleged cheaters could be construed as harassment, which is just as much against the ToS as using mules and bots to exploit games and features for profit.

Really, just a sticky thread with rules and reminders of acceptable behavior with guidelines for reporting suspicious activity would be nice.

Thanks for your concerns! We actually have something we're working on to address these specific problems you've brought up.

will there be anything done in the immediate, short term and long term about bots / spammers

immediate is within 7 days
short term is within the next 30-60 days
long term is past 60 days

it would be helpful to have this answered as there are a lot of threads by users claiming in site feedback that GAIA will do something about it asap and to my knowledge this is not true so could you please eliminate some of the confusion over runway and what will be done about it in the timeframes specified so that users can be referred back to this thread here to help eliminate confusion

We have some ideas for things we want to implement into Runway to help curb any possible issues of cheating via bots or spamming entries. We can't share those details yet, but they will be apparent when we release them.

So uh- I just had my signature disabled and all.
I didn't realize it was too big. But I have a few questions.
Why didn't I get a warning first and a jump to disabling?
Is this the normal course of action?
I would have gladly removed the gif if I had realized it was too big.
And because I had the sig disabled, will this go as a sort of 'mark' against me if I ever tried out for a mod position or anything?

Once a signature image goes over a certain size, then we choose to automatically disable the signature without providing a warning. We give you an initial warning when you go to create your signature about how large it should be. It will not be a mark against you if you apply to be a mod.

I've noticed that whenever we edit or make a new entry we have to do a captcha code. Doing a code for each entry and edit seems a bit overkill, I'm not really seeing how or why it's necessary especially since we don't have to do a code for every post or edit we make in the guilds or forums. Can you make it to where we won't have to do a code for every tiny thing we do in our journals? Maybe you could space the code out to where we only have to do one per every few edits or entries.

We'll take it into consideration!

I saw in Site Feedback that a person was quitting the site because she was fed up with Gaia letting people cheat in the Runway. Many people have been making threads about the cheaters some have event went as far as to e-mail the site about the issue and nothing was ever done. The cheaters have been getting away with this for months. Why did it take someone to make a thread saying that they were quitting the site before you made an effort to fix this issue? Don't get me wrong I'm happy that this is being fixed but it's pretty crappy that it took someone to quit the site before you'd do it or acknowledge other people in Site Feedback.

Suspected Runway cheating is something we've actually been keeping an eye on for a while and trying to figure out how we want to address, it wasn't just one person posting in Site Feedback. We've seen the Runway community wants it addressed and we are working on ways to address the situation.

Features "Runway"

Lots of Gaians have been submitting proof to many mods and admins. Some have even went as far to email you with the usertalk e-mail. People are still cheating in the Runway and nothing is being done about it. It's obvious that it's the same person winning when they are using the same items and same poses round after round. Some people are even using lots of mules in order to see and vote for their main entry. There have even been screenshots that were taken of people that were admitting that they were paid to vote for someone's entry. If people were scamming others in the forums for gold you would be all over it in a heartbeat. It's obvious that you're not holding the same expectations for your features equally since there hasn't been any ban-hammers flying around. These cheaters are ruining the fun of runway for everyone else that bothers to enter, it's not fair or right and it needs to be fixed/addressed instead of ignored.

Why haven't you been banning these cheaters and taking the reports seriously?
And yes we know that they aren't being banned because they are still at it every single day.
If you can't ensure that people will be following the rules and that you'll punish those who break said rules then maybe you should disable the feature until you figure it out. After all you did disable that save bucket feature in fishing because of cheaters using bots to exploit the game you still won't let us save buckets without a entering a captcha code first, it's time to disable runway until you can ensure that no one is exploiting it or at the very least start banning the guilty people.

This thread in Site Feedback talks about the cheating starting on the second page. I think it would be beneficial if the staff would look at it.

Sorry if this is coming across as "salty" I just don't like cheaters. People that ruin a good thing for everyone else just really irritates me. emotion_donotwant

As someone who has read these reports and am currently investigating this situation, I would like to address this as best we can. This is something that we are looking into. However, what everyone needs to also be cognizant of is having proof of someone winning on more than one account is not proof of the person cheating at Runway. Winning day after day is not proof that someone is cheating. This is not how we establish cheating, if that were the case, then when Fishing tournaments were available, we'd be having to ban users just for placing each consecutive month. The act of winning, be it with one account, two accounts, over consecutive days, etc is not and will never be definitive proof of a user cheating at a game or feature.

That being said, we are not denying the fact that there might be something going on, we do not deny the fact that there is the potential for nefarious activity going on. It's something that we are actively investigating and looking into, and if we find that cheating is going on, then the users who have been cheating will face the appropriate punishments. Unfortunately the investigation is taking a little bit longer than usual for a number of reasons that I am not going to get into right now. Rest assured though that it is something that we will be dealing with and it will be very apparent when the situation has been handled.

But if someone were to say they were negative years old (for example "ogm guis am -9999 yrs old!!!"
