"Please shut up," he begged him. "Or go away, or something."

"Naw I have to stick around, 'cause I'm your guide back up. But I can be quiet." And he was, simply smoking his cigar to a stub as he stared off into the middle distance, expression sometimes shifting along with whatever conversation he was apparently having in his mind. Considering the nature of hunters, it was hardly unusual. Tossing the finished cigar into the bucket, he pulled out a small flask he took a small sip, then offered it to the other man.

He'd managed to mostly control himself at this point, and he eyed the flask askance remembering how many warnings he'd gotten against taking anything, anything at all from Life techs, but he did take it. His sip was not small. It could not even properly be called a sip. He shakily reached for his cigarettes, rapidly gave up packing them against his palm, and lit one hoping for the best. He did not say thank you, too humiliated. "Can you go back in there and tell him I want to talk to him? I have questions. I need to know what he meant by aspects."

Without a word, the man left Taym to his devices. A few minutes later, the doctor exited with a look of infinite patience. "Aspects as in, aspects of you're own personality. As I said, we'll need more of the others to be sure. Was there anything else, my dear? I am rather a busy man, though if you were to agree to assist in the program..." he trailed off with a smile as he stood above the hunter.

"I'd heard you had a rather excellent vocabulary," the doctor drawled, "it's a shame they were mistaken." Turning on his heel, he began walking further down into the hallway, calling over his shoulder, "My division assistant will give you the paperwork should you be interested."

He watched him go, hating him, and figured there was nothing to really lose by asking stupid questions, so he did without much hope of a result, yelling after him: "What about the French girl? Was she real, at least?"

"As real as you can be in someone else's body," and then the doctor was gone. After several more minutes, the man from before stepped out of the room and several techs appeared in the hallway to go deal further with the clones. Grabbing the mop, he used it to steer the bucket down the hall, and gestured for Taym to follow him back to the elevator. "Boss said you might want paperwork," he began in a doubtful voice.

After a pause he unfolded to follow, casting a glance backwards towards the room, stretching and flexing his trembling fingers. "What does he want me to do?"

"Whatever he asks," came the easy reply.

Another long pause, punctuated by a slow, unsteady drag. "Tell him to keep his ******** paperwork," he decided, sounding like it physically hurt him to say it. "Thank you," he added, too little, too late.

"Oh he will, and he'll wait until you're in an even worse position, then offer again," Mary nodded, as he swiped a keycard to access the elevator. "Boss is a patient guy like that, so try to stay out of that worse position." The assistant rocked back on his heels as the doors closed and they began to ascend. "Was it worth it?"

"Was what worth it?" he asked, and then, because it didn't matter: "No."

"That your catch-all answer to the question?" The man made a face, " Christ. I'm going to have a drink after this due to contact depression."He paused, as if realizing something, "You were in Death too, right? Good thing you transferred out before he took a real interest. Caught right in the middle the Innis kid and the boss like some sort of rag doll." He gave Taym a look of horrified sympathy and seemed prepared to continue chattering the entire way up.

"The answer's still no," he said tiredly, too drained and ashamed and frustrated to bristle at the depression comment, "but was what worth it?"
