This time, Ever didn't reply: didn't snipe at Taym or saying anything self-deprecating, just shrugged and claimed one of the chairs so that he could sit, one leg up on the other knee, and read through the paperwork properly. He could manage it, certainly, but maybe he squinted a little as he worked through it. A couple minor errors here and there but, considering the length of the thing, surprisingly few. That made him frown a bit as he came to the end, tapping the red pen against his knee. "...it's thorough, I guess. I can't think of much else I'd want to know." He shifted, thinking about it, head still cocked down to stare at the cover. "You mention sex issues, but I think you should also mention the availability of condoms, since it's not like you can go to the store here." A pause, and he was himself again, twitching a smile. "Also, you mention Twitter as a tool, but not how stupid it is."

He'd spent most of the reading wandering into and out of the room, occasionally returning with a chair, and Taym moved as silently as a cat but for Ever's benefit he was letting the noise of his boots travel, a quiet assurance that he was close at hand. He'd waited, when he saw that Ever was reaching a stopping point, to light another cigarette and lean in the doorway, one boot propped up behind him on the frame. "I figured that's one of those things you're better off finding out on your own," he deadpanned. "Anyway, maybe if they don't know that they'll go in treating it intelligently and start a revolution." He jerked his chin at the folder. "But write the rest of that down, you're right." A pause, clearly perched on the edge of talking some more. "You really do need some ******** glasses, man," he observed. "It's strange, what the bond does and doesn't fix. Pull black spots right out of your lungs, permanent shield against a common cold, but your eyes, other s**t--" Demonstratively he held up his cigarette, which shook.

"You'd think it'd kill the little addictions, too, but I definitely smoke two or three times as much here as I ever did at home." He swiped at his eyes, and then leaned forward to write a note near the rest of the sex ed stuff -- and then, for the sake of it, another note next to twitter, too, because he at least thought it was stupid. Ever was entitled to share. And Taym was entitled to ignore it, perhaps. "I'm not that bad off." It was a slow second thought, blinking up at Taym from his writing. "Just squint a little and it's fine, it's only small stuff like this that's a problem...."

He blinked at that, and this time he grinned: because, while apparently Taym could successfully get his goat, could rile him up, Ever really could take a joke. It just had to be the right sort. This one lacked the bite that it had before. "Yeah, well." It was a good point. He shifted a little, shook his head, and shrugged. "They should have loaners, then."

Taym remembered America informing him that the Sun division, of all places, had glasses: had costume glasses, mostly, to feed Allan's hunger for skits and themed fundraisers, but undoubtedly some genuine reading glasses had snuck in there. It would have been kind, to send him there first. There was a selection of fashionable frames, and it was always a little bit easier to deal with Allan or one of his assistants (if exhausting) than it was to get anything out of Lifer hands. You were also more likely to come away with pocky and a Pikachu sticker book, instead of a ticking time bomb and a delusional sense that you were two inches high, or a dragon, or the King of all the Voodland Realm. It would have been kinder. He dragged a chair out of the pile he'd started in the hallway, shoving it into place. "I'm sure they do," he said with a grin.

Taym grinning, though, was cause for concern: it got a wary sort of look, as Ever extended the booklet toward him in offering, head cocked to the side. He didn't say anything, but he didn't have to. The expression said it all. I have a strong feeling you're pulling my leg. Another case of 'all trainees have to shave their heads.'

He almost cracked. In fact he did crack, but only slightly: "I'm pretty sure," he said, taking pity, "that ninety percent of them don't have lenses, but Allan's got a stash. Might be worth checking out but don't hold your breath since I'm sure most of them were for that--Megan fundraiser, or whatever it was." A pause, as he leafed through the booklet absently. "I was going to say it would keep you out of the labs, maybe, but I guess that's an occupational hazard you're going to have to get used to."

"I work in the labs." Ever cocked his head, still frowning at Taym: but it was different, now, trying to figure out what he meant by that, exactly. "I don't much see how you can keep that from happening, nor why you'd want to; it's one of the more interesting places on the island." And, at last, he stood: shaking himself out just a bit. "I can ask around, though, I guess. Make life a little easier for myself."
