"You don't have to be sorry -- " It was offered in passing, as he slid past Shu to attack the thing -- and, immediately, it turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Ever swung at the thing and missed; swung at the thing again and missed. Before he could try a third time, something caught at his ankle and pulled him down, and he had to struggle his way back up to his feet. HP: 32/ 40 Action: Attacking! DAM: 0 Charge: 3/3

The girl got hit shook her head to brace herself, it might be her fault thinking of the kendama when she touched the tablet stone, her eyes dimmed down while she lowered her head. "I-I will, Mr. Thompson." She nodded as she moved back, not to distract the hunter in fight. Shu never be in a defending position before, all the time she was swinging her hammer, but she wanted to do the job well - to protect someone who's important. Even though she wasn't sure how she could do it, she will do it. Holding her hammer tightly, she was ready to stop the sneaky monster to attack Ever. He opened his mouth to make some snide offhand comment to Ever about really holding your own there, and was interrupted by the fact that his next darting strike in was just about as graceless and only marginally more effective.

Good thing that Taym hadn't mouthed off, perhaps -- because this time, when Ever struck, the blade of his stiletto dipped deep into the tree's bark. He let out a woop of....well, surprise, more than anything else, twisting and not-quite-dodging one of the creature's flailing limbs. Still. He didn't go down this time, and he had hit. Altogether, better than he'd been doing... HP: 26/ 40 [2 def] Action: Attacking! DAM: 10 Charge: 3/3

Shu beamed with sparkles at Ever's hard hit, she felt like a cheerleader holding pom poms at the back. The petite girl managed to pin one of the branch sneakily assault the hunter from the back on the ground but she couldn't stop the one that attacked him from the two sides. "Oh no." Her hammer wasn't good enough to block attacks from three directions simultaneously. If the hammer had a blade-like edge, maybe she could....
Also, she knew she knew to be more observant and moved faster in reaction.

Taym managed to follow up Ever's strike with one that felt satisfyingly solid, and the thing made a horrible sound somewhere between a hiss and the bleat of a goat, the half-branch, half-hoof yanking back from the combined onslaught. "I think we've pissed it off," he observed, sounding very, very cheerful all of a sudden. HP: 37 DMG: 11 CHG: 2/3 | used y2 chill Boss HP: 45

Hard to tell if it was the concept of Taym cheerful or the distraction of his comment that threw Ever off: made him shoot a look to Shu, and then the other man, and this time his blow went a bit wide. Glancing, that was all, but it didn't exactly pull him back: instead, he scowled. "Just hit it again. Are you okay, Shu?" HP: 21/ 40 [3 def] Action: Attacking! DAM: 1 Charge: 3/3

Taym's words cheered the petite huntress, "That's a good thing, right?" Her eyes brightened up with a big smile. "I think - It's a goat tree monster?!" She exclaimed in excitement, glad that they could see their target much better, thanks to Ever. All the admiration went to Ever and Taym, an expression like "Senpai(s) please notice me" but minus the intention was sent from behind. "I am still fine, Mr. Ever. You can do it! We can see it easier now! We can make it" The girl offered her best cheer to encourage Ever as Taym seemed to have no problem dealng the beast, cheering helped to boost up team spirit, if she wasn't good at attacking or defending, at least she could do something helpful. Taym, rather incongruously, laughed. In a spar against another Hunter the violence rendered him angry, self-hating: now Ever, at least, would get to contrast the situation with Taym pitted against the things he had, as he frequently put it, actually signed up to fight. "Having a personal cheerleader must be good for the morale," he informed Ever as he weaved, nimbly, in to grab another chunk of flesh or bark or whatever it was. "I can promise you, it's a first," Was Ever's quick reply, more distant than biting: focused on the creature in front of him. In truth, though, he was bolstered by it, and by their apparent success. Having Taym there, confident, actually did help. It kept him moving, even if his blows were still light, glancing. Enough of them, and the three of them could definitely take it down. The worse the monster was, the more cheerful the petite Asian was. Shu wanted to punish the bad bad goat monster as well, but looking back at how she performed her charge.....nope, she noticed she did the defending quite well, so - she will stay in this position until Ever asked for a swap. Taym's words again encouraged the girl which reflected on the little flush, Shu determined she will do the cheerleader job the best she can. So - they were obviously stripping the tree monster? The Asian trainee watched and tilted her head a little. Almost simultaneously as the thought reached her mind, Taym dug out a piece with his weapon that fortified her guess unluckily. Having the image of them stripping a tree, Shu cheered for the team again while her hammer broke a branch that smacked at Ever's back. The crispy sound of the breakage. Oops. Sorry Mr. Monster, but you shouldn't make the surprise raid, that's a light lesson from the harmless girl. Meanwhile, another sneaky branch got to beat at Ever's shank successfully. He took the opening that Shu and Ever were giving him, and he was buoyed, suddenly, by a swell of what felt like heroic competence--the sort of thing he'd felt once in a grey place between worlds, and another time in Wonderland. It was accompanied by a sense of utter recklessness, and a need--overpowering, inexorable, wonderful, awful--to recapture a moment of fictional time and fling himself down so that other could rise up, the need of a desperate brother crouched in the wreckage that was once his home, prepared to die; a fantasy world wherein story had given way to legend and then to godhood and then, finally-- --it fell away, a gasping exhale knocked out of him by some unseen blow that was as much his own reaction to the sensation as it was to an actual strike against his flagging shield. He fumbled, shaken: "Jesus Christ," he muttered, instinctively reaching to wipe the blood away from the corner of his mouth that wasn't there, had never been there. The ******** was that? he demanded of Fiona, who had nothing in answer: only a sort of stunned, mute sympathy. Taym's disaster happened behind him, and perhaps that was for the best: this time, Ever didn't attack, but instead breathlessly gave into the demand of his weapon. He let loose the charge in a solid blow across the creature's flank -- though, to the pair of them, it might just look like another attack. Aside, of course, from the slow shudder that went up Ever's spine as he came to a halt, the sudden brightness of his eyes. Then he flicked a look back to the pair of them. Revitalized, even if he wasn't healed just yet. "Everyone's alright?" HP: 15/ 40 [5 def] Action: Attacking! DAM: 0 Charge: 0/3 [used The Bite, currently active at 50% for 2 turns]

Shu was all the time glare at Ever's periphery that she didn't notice the jab aiming Taym, she was already too late when the hunter yelped in pain. "Oh Mr. Thompson!" She moved a step out of her stance, but shortly returned when she confirmed the hunter was still alright, of course she didn't know the hero style music that stopped playing in his mind. The hammer was a bit out of grasp in her hand because of the worry, but she still tried her best to focus on the sneaky raids of the monster. It was like playing the whack-a-mole game, just the consequence of missing a hit was a hateful hit or beat to the hunter named Ever. There her hammer pinned down tentacled branches, one, two and accidentally broke the third one under her high platform. She raised and made a "ok" gesture to Ever, "I am still alright, please check with Mr. Thompson." The girl's breathe in and out was more frequent than before, but she wasn't exhausted yet. "Fine," he said tersely, but the tone of it gave the lie and he knew it, so he added: "Bandages. We're not clearing out til it goes down or one of you gets close to doing the same." He serendipitously bolstered his morale with a swipe that teased another anguished, hair-raising noise out of the thing. HP: 13 DMG: 6 CHG: 1/3 | used y2 chill, y2 battle cry Boss HP: 27
