AboutThe tradition keeper of a group of Domained Spirits, the sort that could take mortal form as Angeni when powerful enough. This group of Domained spirits are raised to blank out the non-domained spirits to keep themselves pure, thus resulting in them only seeing those with Domains due to a psychological block.
However, after one of his brother's sons, a Domained Spirit of Learning by the name of Cuauhcoatl, took mortal form, an act seen as a mental illness that, if not treated, leads to eventual death by the Tradition of this particular circle of domained spirits. Cuauhcoatl never quite fit in, seeing his "imaginary friends" (The non-domained spirits that acted as servants for this particular group of Spirit Nobility), a sad but expected case (Unless he chose to go the way of his maternal aunt, who acted as the families "magic keeper", who could also see the domainless spirits since she, too, refused to ignore them) and thus originally ignored, but his siblings slowly started following suit, the youngest, still a child by their standards and too weak to take a domain, seen as having died suddenly to be reborn as an Eagle with only a vague drive to find her "big bro", and two other siblings following suit, first seeing other spirits then seeking out the mortal world.
Seeing their children suddenly and quickly 'wasting away', Itzpillicoatl was called upon to risk his own life and sanity, and took mortal form, entering the "lifeless lands" that the Mortal world is, in hopes to bring back the missing family members to the spirit world, and force them to ritualistically shed their mortal forms and start new, but as the same angeni and not entering the reincarnation cycle, but too weak to return to the mortal world for centuries.
After appearing, fully formed and adult on the top of the same mountain that all the others of their family started from, and through talking with the rare "ill" domained angeni he encountered in these silent lands of plants and rocks and water but devoid of life, Itzpillicoatl finally caught wind of the Angeni of Learning, and sought out his Nephew, Cuauhcoatl.
However, Cuauhcoatl refused to go, refused to believe he lived in basically a playground of his own creation, talking with imaginary and invisible friends, a made up family that didn't exist. Frustrated that he couldn't get through to him, the usually calm and gentle Cuauhcoatl demanding he leave and get out of his territory, bellowing in uncharacteristic anger, Itzpillicoatl left yectenehua to seek out the two other missing children in hopes to bring them back to sanity and help their brother see 'the truth' and return to tradition, not realizing he was followed by his great niece, Zyanya from a distance, the mare not quite understanding why the stallion seemed to look right through her and not even register her existence and not wanting to alert him to her presence.
So when the Hawkwalker attacked the unexpecting stallion, she was quickly able to rush in and chase the the skinwalker off of him quickly, but as he didn't know what 'magic' was attacking him or where it was coming from, he got badly injured and knocked out. She quickly gathered up the family to drag him back to the village and taken into shelter for healing.
The following months where hell for both Cuauhcoatl and Itzpillicoatl. Cuauhcoatl finally giving up and letting the rest of the herd care for his uncle, who kept constantly insulting and denying the existence of his family. Itzpillicoatl due to the isolation and loneliness and quiet boredom, as well as sudden bouts of sadness as some of the things said about him by his caretakers seemed to niggle their way into his subconscious.
However, one day, a sentence popped into his head, as if it was being said in a different room, a sweet female voice, clearly talking to someone else, "But I left my homeland when I was fairly young, taken by humans to this new world, I don't know any of my people's lifemating traditions.."
Itzpilli responded sort of automatically as his powers kicked in, talking in sort to himself, explaining the cultural traditions surrounding the mares ancestry as it read out in front of him, his eyes seeing, feeling, knowing these deep rooted but lost traditions to this mare, as well as some variant options based on her personal history. When the vision cleared, before him he saw two strange looking creatures before him: A small cream mare with thick brown spots like a giraffe, and a furry creature with hands and a bushy tail, slim fingers frozen mid braid in Ikinya's hair as they both stared at him in bewilderment.
Thats when the screaming started, the injured stallion quickly transforming into his human form and skittering back, crawling on top of the storage platform of the long house and hiding behind the boxes, only freaking out more as more unfamiliar creatures came to investigate, the Older stallion babbling in fear when his nephew came, and eventually managed to calm him down and explain the whole thing. The following months, Itzpillicoatl was introduced to this suddenly vivid and vibrant world full of life and people, learning that sometimes?
Sometimes following things just because it's tradition blinds you.
