"The weapons claim to know just about everything. Or mine does, at least." Ever offered it absently, flicking a look back toward Peyton with his eyebrows raised to see if she'd had the same experience. His shoulders rolled, briefly, uncertainly, case back in his pocket and hands following. He looked awkward, still leaning up against the tables, shoulders sharp under the bulk of his coat.

"He has theories about why we're all so young, but I'm not sure if they're honest or if he's just ******** with me again." And considering the timid, nervous look on Mik's face, he wasn't going to voice them out loud in this crowd, even if Amory was off on a rant about it again:

// ...young, fresh, focused, easy to shape, easy to manipulate. They recruit young and would keep you until you were old, if any of you were going to live long enough to get old... // At least his tone was jovial, cheerful. If he'd had a face, it would have been accompanied by a grin; if he'd had a body, a too-hard elbow in the ribs.

"I think they're young too," Noah offered from the doorway. He appeared to have just gotten up; he was in sweatpants and an old shirt, barefoot, and he yawned after he spoke. "Um, scuse me. Sorry I interrupted. Laz doesn't feel like he's real old or anything, and the weapons we get aren't very strong. Wouldn't they be stronger if they were older?"

Laz made a disgruntled noise, and Noah got the distinct sense that the zombie dog had turned his back, lying down pointedly. "Sorry, Laz," he said sheepishly, forgetting for the moment that that didn't have to be spoken out loud. "You're plenty strong."

He stopped and looked around at all the faces in the kitchen, and seemed to realize suddenly that there were more people than he'd expected and that he'd drawn attention to himself immediately upon entering the kitchen. "What kind of sandwiches are there?" he asked meekly, his shoulders hunching in sudden embarrassment.

"They're all different. Some of loud, some are quiet. Some Meek, dominate, aggressive, docile, respectful, informal. They're as varied as we are, more so, really, if you consider their packaging." She took another bite as she finished her point, once again noting just how lucky she'd gotten to have been paired with a partner she got along with as well as she did with Warrick.

<It's just you and me, tidbit.>

Tidbit?

<I'm trying it out.>

She rolled her eyes, but smiled despite herself. Through the craziness that had happened over New Years Peyton had had a unique opportunity to sample having a different weapon in her head. That one had been female. A wendigo demon, and incredibly possessive and domineering.

A very familiar voice at the door drew her attention immediately, and she gave him a smile so bright it was radiant. "Hi, come here." There hadn't been an answer to the dm she'd sent him, and had therefore assumed he'd been asleep. Actually, it very much looked like he had been, which had her thinking he'd dragged himself out of bed just for her.

Or for sandwiches. "Turkey, or bacon." And everything in between.

A hand was reaching for him, and if he took it she'd tug him down so she could steal a kiss. "Did my text wake you up?"

Melvin finished his bacon, having listened to the new trainees fresh from their pods or just getting their island legs in when he set a plate down with bacon already cooked and ready to be picked off. He held a separate plate in his hand with his selection of bacon for his own sandwich, untouched by anyone else. "There is a specialization for profiling potential hunters to be recruited. There is also a section in Life set for weapon conversation. It's not my department so I do not know what criteria they base their information on. If you want to go into that department and are in Life, then I encourage you to check it out once you've gotten more use to Island Life here."

Hey! Do the thing Peyton was doing. These dopes don't know you or your reputation as a huge nagger. Fresh minds!

"My name is Melvin Wood. I'm in Life Division, and my weapon is a pistol. My partner is Saliva, a Mongolian Death Worm. As for interesting, I'm currently researching artifacts." He wasn't about to go into personals. "I've been here for over a year."

He set to make himself a sandwich, selecting bread from the other end of the loaf where people weren't grabbing and then went to get himself some more coffee. He still had work to do in the labs after this.

Ever hummed, considering Noah, and then Melvin, from his perch against the sandwich table -- still remarkably quiet, thoughtful, chewing on words instead of just saying the first thing that came to mind. To him, Amory didn't seem that young: he was cynical in a way that Ever still identified with age and experience. Perhaps, after years spent living among jaded Hunters, he'd feel differently about it. Perhaps.

For now, though, he'd shake his head and pause to snag a single piece of cheese from the table, shooting Peyton a smile as he did -- apology or thanks, it was hard to tell -- before straightening where he stood.

"This was nice. See some faces, get a feel..." But. But he was going, clearly, rolling his shoulders and tearing off a corner of his cheese as he started toward the door. "Thanks for the snack."
