Hellene Harpie

PostPosted: Tue Jul 22, 2014 8:20 pm

Hellene straightened her camera bag and double-checked her eye-makeup in a compact. Fixed upon her face was a look of business-like disdain. She briskly knocked on the door. She waited barely 15 seconds before knocking again.

On the third knock the door opened and she almost hit someone square in the chest.

"OH! Excuse me, is this the Harley residence?"

She looked up into a face one someone skeptically adjusting his glasses at her.

"Yes. Can I help you miss?"

Hellene fished a card out of her bag.

"Are you...Mr. Oscar Hartley?"

"It's doctor, actually."

"My apologies. I'm Hellene, Hellne Harpie, I'm here about whom I presume to be your son, Perry Hartley."

Dr. Hartley grimaced slightly, but this ghoul seemed more respectable, and certainly more colorful, than the last one.

"Young lady, my son is grounded ri-"

"Oh drat him! Of course he is! That Perry is the most unreliable, well ok not the most unreliable but he's a good distant second for it...THERE! There you are!"

Hellene pointed an accusing talon behind Dr. Hartley and metaphorically pinned Perry in place.

"Who, me?" he squeaked.

"Yes! you!"

Hellene looked as if she was about to stomp into the house, and indeed took a single step forward but, remembering herself, stopped. The heel of her boot met the concrete with a sharp CLACK.

"I...I didn't...I don't..." Perry stammered.

"HUSH! None of your excuses! I am tired of hearing them."

"Miss Harpie, what exactly is going on?"

"Mister, excuse me, Dr. Hartley, I'm the dark room monitor and head photo deaditor at Monster High, I have an edition set to go to the printers, Perry was assigned to be my assistant and he never turned in the assigned work. He's so late, in fact, that I'm going to have to spend all weekend finishing it. Time that I had slated for other things because of someone's careless and inconsiderate attitude towards deadlines."

Dr. Hartley looked at his son and raised an eyebrow. Perry flinched beneath the two burning stares.

"Oh really. Inconsiderate, you say? Ran out on something? How unlike my son this doesn't sound at all."

"No, wait, I..."

"Not another word out of YOU, mister," she hissed, before turning back to Dr. Hartley, "He won't get the extra 10 internship points but now I am in a bind. I was hoping that he could at least be bother to come assist me today so that I would have tomorrow free. But if he's grounded, which doesn't at all surprise me, I suppose there's nothing for it. I'm going to lose my weekend."

Dr. Hartley looked at his son, frozen in the face of Hellene well-spoken but intense fury. She managed an angry little sniffle.

"Miss Harpie, I think we can come to an arrangement. Perry," he continued sternly, "come here."

Perry stepped forward uncertainly.

"Uh, Yeah?"

"Is what she says true?"

Perry opened and shut his mouth a few times and looked and Hellene. She starred intently at him and twitched her perfectly angry eyebrows.

"Y...yes?"

"Perry, it is one thing to shun your family, but to abandon responsibilities like this is unacceptable. You are going to with this young harpie and you're going to finish the work you promised to do. Do you understand?"

"Yes, dad," Perry replied, deflating with probably too much exageration.

"Good. Hellene, I apologize for my son, and I'm sure he'll apologize for himself later. He's just been like this lately."

Hellene gave a dramatically exasperated sigh as Dr. Hartley shoved Perry out the door and Hellene locked elbows with him.

"I should have known, he's a teenaged boo and they all go through this phase. Can't trust them with lunch."

Dr. Hartley nodded.

"How long do you think this will take?"

"I'm not sure, it's a lot of work so it will take a while. Surely not all night, but I wouldn't leave dinner out."

"That's fine. Perry, you can do all the laundry, yard work and reorganize the basement tomorrow."

"But...Daaaaaaad..."

Hellene jerked Perry around hard and the two began walking away.

"Don't worry, Dr. Hartley, he'll have plenty of time for chorse tomorrow."

Oscar nodded firmly and shut the door. Hellene didn't let up her grip for two blocks.

"OW. That's some grip you've got there," Perry said, rubbing his arm when she finally released him.

"You weren't picking up your phone, I had to make up the script as I went. At least you didn't blow it," she replied mildly.

"MY PHONE! ARG! Why didn't I ask for it back."

She shrugged at him.

"This is why scripts are better, improv causes trouble. You won't need it where we're going anyway, Draconia is your top priority. That is why you asked for my help."

"Right, sorry. You...uh...good job on getting me out of there. Did you have to make me sound so crummy?"

Hellene rolled her eyes.

"You don't really know anything, do you? You don't know how to pick up signals, you don't know how let a ghoul down gently, and you don't know that parents will always let you go do something when you're grounded so long as they think you're going to be miserable when you do it. Your dad probably thinks I'm going to make you get me creepaccinos and sweep the floor all day. He practically...no, he actuallly pushed you out the door."

"Hey, yeah! Ok, so this is gonna work."

"Of course it is, so long as you get the apology right."

"What if he asks me for the school paper later and doesn't see my name in it?"

Hellene scoffed, "Give an intern credit? Pfft. Please."

"Wait wait wait, I need to grab something!" He struggled out of Hellene's grip before they could get too far, returning very rapidly with a small shopping bag and a camera around his neck.

"How'd you manage to get him to trust you like that?" His father really had been totally taken in by her story, it occured to him that Hellene probably really WAS that angry and perhaps it was a bad idea going anywhere with her.

"Look, I know you're peeved at me." He thrust the bag toward her. "I know Draconia is priority but... consider this like... a practice appology or something?"
He looked a little worried, he still had no idea what he was going to say to Draconia, he always seemed to get flustered and do precisely the wrong thing instead.

Inside the bag was a cute hat, clearly picked out by some monster with substantially more style than this boo had.

Perry looked sheepish. "You said I owed you a hat so uh.. here you go."
