"A pizza place," Joe shrugged casually. So much for connections. Although he had met one other important person. "It's probably a creator thing huh? I heard Doctor Light's bots call him Dad before."

...Figures. Joe didn't have any good connections....and Flashover apparently went to regular pizza joints. Weird, here Proto thought he fed on the fluids of downed bots or some craziness like that.
The next statement nearly caused him to spit e-tank all over the place. Thankfully he caught himself before he did...that could have been messy. "You've spoken to Doctor Light?!"
What the hell was this....particular brand of 'special' citizen doing hanging around Dr. Light?!

"Er...well yeah. He's the one who helped me get that helmet." Joe gestured to the sniper helmet he'd dropped by the door. "Do you know him?" It wouldn't be that surprising considering Doctor Light and Wily supposedly used to be friends. Light had also been working hard to help the citizens by building robots to repair their homes and protect them.

"Yes....I know him. He is the one who built me." Which made him one of Light's bots, and thus a son. The first son, actually. Proto had set down his empty E-tank and turned his gaze -away- from Joe. The subject of his father was a sore one.
A lot of things were sore subjects with him really.
But hrm...Light had helped Joe get a helmet. That meant he was still out there and apparently active in helping the Rebellion.....or at least the Citizens. If he didn't watch himself he was going to get back on Wily's radar and get himself killed. Proto....wasn't sure how he'd feel about that.

Joe nearly choked on the noodles. "You're one of Light's bots?!" There was no way, right? All Light's bots were helpful and not destructive for the most part. How the hell had this one ended up working for Wily? "But you're...with Wily?" Joe's eyes widened in sudden understanding. That had to be it! It all made sense: Being with Wily, helping him with his mission, not killing him. "You're in disguise too! To spy on Wily, right?"

.......Really?
Proto's gaze slid back over to Joe, the bot having a rather disbelieving look on his face. There was no way Joe was...
Yeah, yeah there was. Ugh.
"Yes I am one of Light's bots, but -no- I am not a spy. I'm Wily's General now for...a few reasons, none of which I wish to discuss."
Really now, did Joe -honestly- believe Proto was a spy in disguise?? It wasn't a very -good- disguise if he was, everyone knew who Proto was.

Joe narrowed his eyes. Either he'd been wrong or Proto was just trying to protect his cover. Well no worries, "General", your secret is safe with him. Man this was GREAT! They had an inside guy already, and with Joe there too, surely they'd be able to gather enough intel to take Wily down for good. Tail wagging, Joe nodded to Proto, hardly paying attention to what he said. "Uh huh." Man it must have taken years for him to get that high in Wily's army! Joe was glad he wasn't given that mission. This guy was dedicated! With a new found respect for his robo-accomplice, the young rebel tossed him a second E tank. He deserved it.

Proto easily caught the E-tank....opening it was another thing all together. With a bit of fumbling he did manage to pop the top and stuff a straw in it though. That done, he took a sip and stared over at the other. If the City's hope now rested with this kid...
Sigh.
Proto felt rather -bad- for him.
"So....how did you get tangled up in the rebellion?" Was he tricked into it? Or did he honestly just want to help?

Joe put the empty noodle box aside and settled back in his chair. His eyes grew distant as he remembered the night he awoke to the silent cries of the city. "It started when I was sitting in a bar next to a beautiful little lady (who'd reluctantly taken the only seat left). I was watching the Daily W (Wily news station) and it hit me. What we were doing wasn't living. Wily gave us just what we needed to survive and as long as we kept our heads down and shuffled along with our miserable little lives, he allowed us to live. I looked around that bar and realized that there was only one way things were going to change. Someone had to stand up and do something. So I decided I was leaving. I had to get out of this city to find help or some way to fight back. I promised that little lady I'd be back. Just wait till she sees me once the rebellion wins! I bet she'll be back for more kisses (she tried to slap him)," Joe mused. Shaking off the daydream, he continued. "I found my Dad's old bike and headed out of town. That's when I met your uh...well Dr. Light. Wily's Sniper attacked me and I fought him off (okay maybe Light helped a little). That's where I got my helmet. After that, I found out that I wasn't the only one who'd noticed how bad things had gotten. I joined the rebellion and started my (self-appointed) mission to gather intel. Change is coming and I'm going to do whatever I can to help it." The audio gave his companion a cocky grin. The winds he heard that night had risen to a howl. They would save this city.

...Hrm. An admirable answer. Here was a Citizen who truly was unhappy with the way things were and wanted to fight to change it. If this City was every going to change, they needed more Audio like Joe around. ....As scary as a thought that was for the red general.
But still, something was bothering him...
"....Joe. Do you remember a time when things weren't like this?" It was unlikely, since from all that he had heard Wily had control of this City for an extremely long time. Still...there had to be someone who remembered things from before, right?
"I simply don't...I've only been online a few years, and though I often hear the cries of how bad things have gotten, I have nothing to compare them to but my own programming and things told to me before I was sent to my ill-fated stand. It is not much to go by...and sometimes I wonder if I was lied to and things really aren't that bad after all."
Proto was frowning, and it was clear that he honestly was just confused about everything.

Joe shook his head. He had been a young pup when the villain came into power. "Wily's been in charge ever since I can remember. Maybe that's why it took so long to realize what was going on. But if you want to see what it was like, I can help with that." Joe stood and walked to a dilapitated bookshelf with a few odds and ends jammed into it. "Just before I left town, I went back to my parent's place to get my dad's old motorcycle. I wanted to bring something of mom's too and I found this." Pulling out a dusty old photo album, he walked over and handed it to Proto.

Proto really wasn't sure what he was going to learn from a dusty photo album.....but he did take the offered book and flipped it open to look. The City before Wily's time was more like a mining town than anything else. It had what was needed, small shops run by locals and a community that could depend on each other. There weren't robots to do their work, everything was done by the common-Audio's paw. No skyscrapers dotted the horizon, just modest buildings that accommodated what the population desired.
Still, the City back then had been dangerous....a different type than it was today. There were frequent mining accidents, which led to numerous deaths for the community. Quite often fathers simply did not return from their work. It was work...but dangerous work. Light and Wily's work began trying to fix this problem.
After all, the path to hell was paved with good intentions.
The bot continued flipping through the book. He was starting to droop again, the E-tanks had done as a temporary pep-up but what he really needed was to actually -sleep-...and not be interrupted by someone dropping cans on the table. The injuries were really taking a toll on his systems.

Joe stood behind the couch, watching over Proto's shoulder as he scanned the book. It had been a while since he'd last looked at it. Interspersed between the newspaper articles and pictures of the city were pictures of his family. The father he barely remembered grinned up at him from an old picture taken near the mines. He'd died ten years ago when Joe was only a pup. The next page held a picture of his mother. Joe smiled slightly, remembering how wonderful life had been having her around. When she'd disappeared three years ago, he'd nearly lost it. When he finally pulled himself back together, he'd left his parents house never to return until that day. The day he decided to escape and changed his life forever.
Lost in his reverie, Joe almost failed to notice as Proto turned the final page to reveal an enlarged picture of a naked pup chewing on a stuffed toy on the living room floor, giant eyes boring into the camera. ACK! Embarassed, he quickly attempted to snatch the book away from the general. "Er..anyways. Hope you found what you were looking for."

Proto seemed to have little reaction to that fantastic last page. In fact, he seemed to have little reaction to...anything in general. While he had learned quite a bit while looking through the book...one thing had stopped him from remarking on it.
Closer inspection would reveal he had fallen asleep. Again. Looked like Joe was stuck with an overnight guest, unless he -really- wanted to wake up Proto one more time.
It was likely in his best interest not to do that.

"Er...??" Joe waved a hand in front of Proto as he failed to respond. Good he had fallen asleep. Wait a second! What did he think this was...a hotel? With a heavy sigh, Joe walked over to a closet and pulled out a blanket. He tossed it over his guest. He wasn't sure robots needed them, but it felt like the right thing to do. Putting away the photo album and empty food carton, he headed off to his bedroom to get some shut eye of his own.
