For the most part, she hung back somewhat from all the order signatures.
There were so many, and though she couldn't tell what level they were, she assumed they were all stronger than her. So she held back. Playing the role assigned. Watching, listening and learning.

Then it happened. Her hostage was ripped from her grasp and she was sent flying, as small fires erupted all around her. She landed on the floor hard. The wind was knocked from her lungs and she was dazed for a second. But she was resilient and quickly got to her feet. It was her job to protect Erythrite, so she would. She looked around, but in the fighting and chaos of battle lost sight of her.

She summoned her weapon, as weak and ineffectual as it was... marbles were after fairly useless, and would effect friend and foe alike, but they were all she had, aside from her own body, so she would use them first, as a distraction or to get the foe's attention.

Her communicator went off and she heard a superior's voice come through. She took a brief moment to respond.

'Empressite here, sir. Preparing to pursue and engage the enemy.'

Searching the chaos, she located the one who attacked her, and tossed the first marble.

The fiery retort he heard from Astarte certainly tickled his fancy and he could not stop the laughter that trickled from his throat. "You know how us coffee addicts are- don't get coffee in our veins and we're the absolute worse. I know nothing of this power outage and I have nothing better to do today than wrangle up a few terrorists anyway. Sorry to disappoint, my dear."

He rather liked her. Perhaps she'd make a fine addition to the Negaverse someday...

Buddingtonite looked to the Eternal senshi that spoke and had to check himself for a moment. Thraen was an ally in the last little game he got himself involved in and in a short amount of time, it had all gone to status quot. Funny how life worked out like that. He addressed the senshi with a sneer, certain that there was enough distance between them that he couldn't see the scream in his eyes... his hand was starting to ache from the memory of their last fight. Or maybe that was his branding acting up. Who knew, he was no doctor. "Wise as ever. Our ultimatum are simple... we simply ask that the rest of your senshi leave. Go home, but know that you're days are numbered here in Destiny City. We will not tolerate any acts of misguided heroi-"

Something moved from the corner of his eyes and he spotted Gunn far too late to stop her. The first and foremost thing on his mind (besides to stop talking) was to pull his hostage closer to him, and had anyone noticed anything besides the brave senshi charging forward, they may have noticed how he pulled Jade behind him. Her magic could not be missed, as the spotlight to his left erupted into sparks, and without thinking, he gave a shout, opening a small portal of the Rift to allow a crab-like youma to appear. "Graaaaa!"

The youma did not make its way into the crowd, but instead he turned right around and jumped onto the rose-clad general, clinging to his side and wrapping its long spider legs around his torso, and the minute he tightened, he became an impenetrable shield, shielding his stitched wound from further agitation. It left his arm vulnerable but the flames only licked the sleeve before he slammed it down on the sign, snubbing it out before it could completely eat through the cloth and singe the flesh underneath. He took a quick glance behind him to check on Jade, before even once noticing that Gunn had managed to grab an officer in disguise and throw her into the crowd.

's**t!'

"Serpentine!" Buddingtonite shouted, just as the general teleported away from his side and retrieved the pink-haired hostage. There were still flames about, but Buddingtonite was hardly concerned, so long as one of their charges was spared from immediate death. There was little time to relax, as he watched Empressite engage the one that lashed out. Don't panic, all part of the plan, don't panic, don't panic he told himself, and he once again looked to his partner. "Keep an eye on her- she's far too valuable to waste on the likes of that rude thing. The rest of you, keep this fire under control... I was hoping for a few more weeks of spring weather before summer's blistering heat ruined the party."

'See, everything's okay.'

"Alright, anyone else want to blatantly kill your fellow allies? Do all of you care so little about your own kind that you'd gladly sacrifice them and the civilians at my feet for the sake of playing big god damn heroes? I make a simple demand and that's all of you to go home... or will I have to make an example of one of these terrorists to get my point across?"

Once again, he moved towards Jade, Gra still latched to his side and the hand pointed away from the crowd reaching for his pocket, where spare starseeds laid hidden. This was getting too dangerous for her to be here, and he had a good idea of getting her out of this safely... as well as display some theatrics as well, barring anymore unexpected attacks, anyway.

Galena fell into her role with ease as the false senshi under Schörl's fingers. As the digits firmly massaged into her muscles, she could feel a smattering of goosebumps rise up the back of her neck and down her arms, but for the most part this came naturally and the petite woman seemed to turn on all the appropriate micro-expressions of discomfort in response to the gesture.

Cinnabar's presence was a comfort, but one that was necessary to ignore. It wasn't uncommon for Galena to look to the dark haired lieutenant with wide eyed admiration, but tonight those glances were tempered with a distinct flavor of anxiety and fear. Those wide eyes conveyed something more akin to an animal at the slaughter than an awestruck schoolgirl, and the adjustment had been instituted flawlessly as they discussed her senshi 'anatomy'. There might've been a small, small change in reaction that bordered on dangerously flirtatious when Cin mentioned stringing her up, but for the most part, the way her tear dotted eyes looked on the scene was with the best look of disquiet and defeat.

Any displayed anxiety was false, of course, because she felt firmly secure even in her vulnerable position as a fake hostage. Being between Lieutenant Cinnabar and Captain Schörl seemed like an advantaged position with plenty of security.

At least until the senshi approached. She was still fairly confident in her position until she watched one captive 'rescued'. The chaos that ensued was worrying, and her first instinct was to recoil into closer proximity against Schörl or Cinnabar, but even she recognized that appeared suspicious and it took all of her restraint not to.

The end result had her small figure stand there in what appeared to be frozen, shut down, and too visibly distressed to move.

Astarte only huffed in response to the redheaded leader of the show. Obviously he had nothing more to offer than obnoxious retorts.

The explosive crack of the spotlight garnered her attention almost immediately. Astarte flashed a glance toward the sparks and glass now raining down on the Negaverse agents below only to witness the scene erupting into flame at the call of the woman who instigated the mess. Afterward she charged toward a hostage, successfully wrenching the girl from the hands of her captive before the pink-haired girl was hurled toward Astarte's general direction.

Bit of bravado, that one's got. Touch useless in the grand scheme of things. What's she got to do with these hostages? I wonder if there's not more to her sudden act of heroism than simple drive to help others... While Asarte offered no initial attempt to help the girl, she neither shied away from the hostage now sliding to a halt at her feet. Hostages are all fine and grand, but are we really supposed to give a shite about their lives? I don't know these people. I'd much rather have my power turned back on for a touch of air conditioning before bed.

"Nice job, getting yourself caught," she offered to the pink-haired hostage before a Negaverse general immediately appeared in front of her to collect his burden. Startled, Astarte drew back and called out her attack, one palm extended to collect an orb of brilliant red energy. Afterward a laser burst from its epicenter, no wider than a pen, aimed directly at the officer that now stood only feet from her.

Maybe it was a mistake to act so rashly, so suddenly. But considering the lot of them were dawdling about while Destiny City sat in total darkness? It seemed hardly a negligible decision.

Laser dispensed, Astarte widened the distance between the two by edging toward the lip of the building, fierce gaze set upon the whip-wielding general.

Sailor Scout Attack: Astarte's Hate
Number of uses: 3
Duration: 3 seconds
Number of targets: Variable
Astarte holds her hand outward, palm facing the location of her intended target, and calls the name of her attack. The blue runes of her uniform glow red and a red ball of energy forms on her palm as it drains the malice from the people around her* to create the attack. From there fires a laser, about as thin as a pen, which she can aim by maneuvering her hand. It only lasts for a couple seconds, and works wonders in cutting through and dusting youma. On people, however, it only inflicts mild burns upon contact from the laser. If concentrated on a particular area, she is able to inflict a second degree burn, but she has to be terribly accurate and the individual needs to stand still**.
Weakness: Laser cannot penetrate solid objects. Interrupting the call of her attack will halt it entirely.

* Once collected, whoever the lasers strike receive a concentrated dose of malice. To clarify, the surrounding individuals feel less malicious due to the collection of the attack, and the target feels exponentially more malicious upon receiving the attack. Effectively, Astarte can redistribute the emotion depending on how she utilizes her magic.

** The attack's strength is variable depending on the amount of malice gathered from targets. If no one is feeling particularly murderous that day, her attack probably amounts to nothing more than a tickle. If she used her attack around a gaggle of bloodthirsty officers, then the strength reaches its maximum threshold as listed in the attack description (ie 2nd degree burns). In order to incur maximum damage with her laser attacks, Astarte requires a solid amount of malice as well as a still target for her to concentrate her laser on for the duration of the attack.

For a moment, the standoff continued. Cybele glanced around, taking in the details of the situation. "A trick? Maybe. It's definitely a show," she whispered to the Eternal next to her (Kallichore). The spotlights were up, the house lights were down, and the audience was arriving. That was what her theatrical training was telling her, at least. "The Negaverse doesn't put on a lot of performances, so..."

She realized that she recognized the red-haired general who was doing most of the talking. It was that guy who had acted like the Negaverse was so wonderful back when she'd still been clueless... Buddingtonite, right? Even though he'd upgraded, he still hadn't learned how to shut up, apparently, or how to say anything intelligent. Still, she was listening to him when everything exploded.

She'd been keeping her mouth shut in fear of saying something stupid and getting someone killed, but any chance diplomacy might have had was now over. "So, you're saying you lured us here just so we'd leave?" The sarcasm was dripping from her voice, but unfortunately, she didn't have time to wait for a response or even to glare at him much. The fight was beginning.

She wasn't going to charge at this height, but even as she spoke she made her way carefully around one of the fires and towards the combat. She'd learned better, mostly, than to try to fight people far stronger than herself, so instead she threw her fist at the face of the blue haired Lieutenant who had been holding the captive. Jarosite grinned at Serpentine and gave a salute. Clearly his new way of thinking was the proper method in the Negaverse now. Wonderful. He fell into a rooted stance, back to the hostages, and eyes out.

And then someone set things on fire.

Why. Did it always come. To Fire.

Fire solved nothing. Fire only made things worse. Fire did not purge, fire did not cleanse. Fire burned and burned, and that eternal seemed to not even care that she could kill her own with powers like that. If Jarosite was a little more powerful, a general, he would have asked for permission to beat her face in.

A captain against an eternal senshi who could set things on fire? Yeah that wasn't happening. Jarosite instead buckled down and did his job. He stamped the fires around him, thankful for his boots.

"Orders, General?" he asked pointedly to Serpentine, given he was his presiding officer in this case. Clearly they had too few guards for him to run away and smack some senshi around and come back, but an idea of the best course of action (ie one that kept him alive) was needed.

A familiar voice grabbed Megrez's attention. "Gunn!" She said back, pleasantly surprised (though she really shouldn't have been, given her tendency to be around when trouble was afoot, or at least that was how Megrez saw it).

Then the action started. There were now flames on the rooftop, the general who appeared to be in charge was rattling his saber some more, and there was at least one skirmish going on between a senshi and a lieutenant. Megrez still wasn't terribly good at processing lots of things that were happening at once, so she wasn't sure who to attack, if anyone. If anyone came to her, though, they'd definitely get egg on their face (or just a fist; not only having three eggs to chuck into a sea of Chaos auras was rather limiting).

She did, however, have the presence of mind to bark at the guy in charge (Buddingtonite). "I think it's a little late for us to go home now! Do your worst!"

Only once she had said that did Megrez realize that she had shoved her foot firmly in her mouth. You don't just egg on people who are willing to kill hostages, even if you are the Senshi of Eggs! Well, shots had already been (literally) fired, so if they were already worked up, her little gibe wasn't going to do much more damage. Ready to engage the enemy that probably wasn't going to come to her after all, she jumped up onto the rooftop.

((OOC: Sorry for the double-quote, but I had to edit out a really stupid error in this post. Even Megrez should know that civilians don't have auras. X_X))

Erythrite was seriously regretting signing up to play hostage for this little party. "It's a great idea," she'd thought, "it'll be fun," she'd thought, "it'll help the Negaverse!" she'd thought.

But when she was ripped away from Empressite and thrown straight at the crowd of Senhi and Knights while fires exploded around her, she really didn't care about any of those things - instead, all she could think was 'oh ******** my life.' Fortunately, Serpentine was quick in rescuing her, and she let out a small exhale. The Senshi (Astarte) who snarked at her got a very brief look of absolute fear.

"I owe you one, General," she said, her voice quiet so as not to attract too much attention. Louder, then, she started to fake-sob, going for the full body-shaking effect.

The last thing Kerberos had expected to find when he signed up for a large Negaverse operation was his goddamn stepsister playing hostage. They were going to have a very long talk after this, and the Corrupt found himself gravitating automatically towards her and the Lieutenant playing hostage-taker for her.

So when a Senshi (Gunn) grabbed her, Eternal or not, he was pretty damn pissed. It was probably stupid to stay close with sparks raining down, but he needed to be in range so he could launch his attack.

"Asphodel's Grief!"

Penthesilea took in the scene before her for a moment, and then she grinned. Oh, this was gonna be fun - and if she wasn't mistaken she spotted quite a few familiar faces on both sides of the crowd. How easily allies become enemies - as if she could forget Buddingtonite, and all his bluster, from the little ambush they'd planned on the Dark Mirror.

And speaking of them, she spotted a familiar face in the crowd - and she immediately hopped over to land next to Chariklo. The Super had attacked her during the ambush, but Penthesilea had learned to take her allies where she found them, and she knew Chariklo was strong. "Gonna put our diff'rences aside for an evenin, then?"

Ker's Basic Attack
Sailor Scout Attack: Asphodel's Grief!
Sailor Kerberos cups his hands in front of his face and says the name of his attack, then blows. Asphodel petals fly out of his hands towards one target within eight feet of him. The target begins to feel regret, though the apparent "reason" will vary from person to person and it might even be something they would not normally regret. The effect is the same no matter the target's rank. This effect lasts for 30 seconds. Sailor Kerberos can use this three times per battle.

"Not hiding... just staying out of sight and inconspicuous," Sarras said to the senshi, his voice low and his tone flat, making it uncertain what of many emotions he could have been feeling at the time being. He understood her concerns, but he was quick to explain himself, even as one brave senshi made a move. "While they're distracted by the shenanigans of the others, we can plan and make our move to help the hostages."

Hostage. He saw Jade and his mind was set on rescuing her. The rest? He didn't know them... and if they were foolish enough to where they revealed their identity to the enemy, then they might as well be dead. Jade mattered to Sarras because she mattered to Richard, and he would not be the one to tell his brother the news if something were to happen to her.

But he wouldn't tell Mintaka that. "Pleasure to meet you, Mintaka. Name's Sarras. Now, if you don't mind, we might want to consider what our next move will be, before the fire spreads any further or before that pompous a** sticks to his threat."

He was moving towards Jade, which mean he'd have to act quickly... with or without this senshi's help.

Europa had followed Gunn to the department store, drawn as much by the mystery and massing chaos signatures as she'd been by desire to accompany her friend into battle. The senshi of wildfire's friendship frequently felt conditional, and now was one of those times when conditional meant backing her up in a fight. She was happy to oblige, of course - if anything big was going on, then Europa wanted to know about it and see it first hand.

On the trip over, Gunn had explained to her why she thought this was a trap, and Europa was inclined to agree. It was sound logic. She'd seen the Negaverse use hostages to stage an ambush before - participated, even, and frankly after the s**t Cinnabar had pulled, if Gunn thought it was a trap, then it was a trap.

Because of course it was a trap. You didn't just take hostages for the sake of taking hostages. You took hostages because you wanted someone to go somewhere, so that you could do something shitty to them. She'd been a senshi for nearly five years, and that was enough time to have that lesson drilled into her head.

After instructing Europa to stay back and come in as a second wave, Gunn had charged ahead, literally setting fire to the situation. For now, Europa hung back, sticking to the fringes of the fighting and trying to get a grasp on the situation. It looked like it had all escalated far too quickly - she didn't know where to jump in where she could do the most good.

But a lone senshi figure on a nearby rooftop looked like a likely place to start. Europa hopped over. "Hey," she called to Leda, "You okay?" She did not look okay, thought Europa.

When Athene hit the patrol beat, the last thing that he'd been expecting was a power cut. Instead the dark-haired senshi had had his phone out, senshi not regular, and had been in the process of writing a message to his PSSG team mates to see if any of them were out and about on patrol, in the hopes that if they were then he could make the night's patrol either a joint or group one.

The street light that he'd been standing under suddenly winking out had taken him by surprise however and Athene had ended up accidentally hitting send on the message and sending the partially written thing to Tsui and Ida.

PSSG Message 1
Hi Tsui, Ida are either of you patro...

It was at that point that he realised that the other street lights had winked out too and not only that but so had the lights in all the nearby buildings.

And then he had sensed what felt like a group of chaos auras, at least one of which felt like Nega-General strength. Mayhaps it was just a coincidence, but the combination of sudden power outage and chaos auras seemed like a bad one and thus something that he should probably check up especially as he could equally sense a few Order auras too.

It hadn't taken long to find the source of the auras, especially given that someone had lit up the place so prettily and Athene had sent another message to Tsui and Ida before making his way up.

PSSG Message 2
Hi Tsui, Ida,
Sorry about previous message, power cut took me by surprise.
Seems to be quite a few negaverse auras about, one of which feels like a Nega-General. Auras seem to be coming from top of department store and someone's lit up the roof with flood lights so gone to check it out
Athene

One of the floodlights suddenly sparking made Athene put his best foot forward, the small nondescript satchel that he had taken to carrying around on his patrols slapping against his side, making it to the top of the roof in time to spot a Nega-General grabbing what looked like a civilian.

Athene was hesitant to rush in as he had no idea what was going on, although the red-haired Nega-General words about blatantly killing allies did not sound good. In fact none of what he was seeing before him looked particularly good. Spotting a familar red-haired eternal Athene headed in her direction "Evening Maia," he said greeting her quietly, before asking. "Have you been here long? Do you know what's going on?"

The call of the eternal behind her called Leda's attention with a jolt, and she turned toward the stronger girl almost immediately. "Um..." She started, casting a teary gaze toward her feet. I don't know what's going on... I don't know how to fix this, and I couldn't stop that general from killing someone..." It hurt to acknowledge it, hurt to relive it, but Leda bit back the tears in an attempt to stay focused, stay solid.

Even if it didn't work. She had to try, right?

The Wildfire Senshi already ambushed their opposition with ferocity, lighting a portion of the rooftop on fire. She even managed to wrangle a hostage from their hands and cast the girl toward her fellow senshi, until a general retrieved her almost instantaneously. Why couldn't Leda be like that? Why couldn't she muster up the gumption to barrel into them and wreak havoc with her steam? She had the magic for it, but... Why? What was holding her back? A host of questions swirled about in her head, every one as immobilizing as the next. She hated it, hated overthinking everything.

But how could she stop?

"We need to figure out something to do about this, don't we? I mean... If those people are our senshi..." Then they'd die in enemy hands. She'd seen it before, hadn't she? That middle-aged woman, fallen into the redheaded general's greedy claws before death took her soon afterward. "We have to do something, right? But what can we do? I don't think I can be like her..." She tapered off, indicating the Wildfire Senshi from before.

When he heard Empressite's quick response, he disagreed with her plan. He did not know much about this Senshi who spread fire... but he had felt her power, seen her wings, and witnessed her resolve. He would never throw a mere lieutenant against such a foe, even in a real fight. "Negative. Too powerful for you. Call for assistance." His orders may have come too late for her - he could not see her from his current position - but he could not let her risk her life. Not when she had showed promise on a night previous. Certainly not when losing her would reflect poorly on him.

Buddingtonite's shout was loud in his ear, and it had nothing to do with the communication crystal's location. Golden eyes shot back to the part of the roof he had just left, but his partner did not appear in great danger...had even summoned Gra to watch over him. To his command, he sent a simple reply, "Affirmative." No, the General would not babysit the plainclothes officer, but he would ensure she did not fall into enemy hands. If only by hoisting her off on another. To her gratitude, he merely inclined his head - a barely noticable motion as he released her from his grasp. Gratitude was certainly the appropriate emotion for the rescued lieutenant to express, and he would listen gratefully to the praise the fell from her painted lips... another time, when he was less surrounded by fire.

It was lucky that he had released the pink-haired girl because suddenly he found a bright red laser against his chest. At first it seemed to do nothing... but then he began to burn, in a way that had nothing to do with fire. His pulse raced in his throat as his hatred of Senshi was inflamed. His blood thirst rose. Maliciousness dripped from his lips as he barked order to Jarosite. It did not take much for him to give into his hatred for Senshi - and the burn that compounded against the heat of the fires around him was more than enough. "Protect your fellows. Kill anyone who interferes." Currently, Serpentine only had murderous eyes for the Senshi who glowed with a queer blue light (Astarte) and he let the whip fly for her chest.

"Senshi? Are you certain?" the guardian cat asked after Leda addressed her. Her large pointy ears flattened against her head and a bottle-brush like tail made couple nervous swings for side to side. Yet, in the same time she felt a little proud for her asking guidance from her. "May I...?" the Mauvian asked before jumping on the super senshi's shoulders. It would be easier to see from up there. Plus, it would be easier to form up some kind of plan as well.

"That lady the general is holding," Cora said to senshi's ear after a moment. "She was in the Surrounding.... However, I do not think she is a senshi. Usually, senshi's starseed awakens during her teen years and she looks older than that... Besides, I don't remember any note of her in the regist--!!"

Suddenly, there was fire. Fire everywhere.

The turkish van let out a gasp and after a second, there was no guardian cat on Leda's shoulder anymore. She was rushing towards the direction where the general and his captive has been. Until suddenly, she halted. Oh yes, directions. "I'm going to help her," she called behind her. "Try to find a captive and rescue them. Or follow me."

And then came Europa.

She had been more than ready to attack Gunn, and in fact was weaving through the chaos trying to reach her when Serpentine's voice came over her communicator, ordering her to stand down, or call for back up. This meant that she was most definitely above her skill level, and while Empressite contemplated disobeying the orders and going after her anyway, she didn't.

'Acknowledged. Will not engage.' She paused a brief moment.' Any further orders?'

But there was battle going on, and there was no place to simply stop and stay out of the fracas. She had hoped to at least receive new orders – even if it were something as simple as attack so-and-so, or get to such-and-such a place – before getting any more involved when a fist came flying at her face.

Fortunately for Empressite she saw the fist before it made full contact, dodging just enough that it grazed her cheekbone, rather than full on fist to the nose or eye socket.

'Damn you, that actually hurt,' she turned to face the person who attacked her. And while she (Cybele) was trying to get the momentum back from the failed surprise attack, Empressite balled her fist and hauled off, aiming for her abdomen.
