Harland was visibly very relieved when Ian showed up, and he kept shutting his eyes and opening them suddenly, refusing to pass out. His constitution should allow for better stability than this, surely.
"That hasn't changed then, has it, a dhiabhal?" he said, his mouth quirking into a smile. He pushed himself to his feet after quite an effort, and ran one hand through his wavy hair. "Good thing you're still handsome enough for the both of us," he said, his smile widening.
He couldn't help it. He really couldn't.
His expression grew more sombre as he regarded the passed out brother on the ground. "I was hesitant to carry him anywhere, he seems to love his personal space. And equally to hate me," Harland said, with a shrug of one shoulder.

Ian crouched down beside his brother, gently running a hand over his forehead without touching him. "I'm not all that handsome today, I'm afraid," he said vaguely. "You still look good though, cowboy, I'm impressed at your stamina."
He frowned slightly at Alistaire's prone form. "Yeah, well...don't take it too personally, my brother has a habit of hating everyone, including his own brother. As for the whole touch thing, his therapists said eventually he'd learn to overcome it, but it'll be a while.
Ian reached for Alistaire's wrist and dragged him upright, Alistaire letting out a soft groan in protest, though his eyes were still closed. Ian looped an arm around his brother's waist and held his other around his shoulders. He took a few steps, trying to test out the weight, and then looked back at Harland, his eyes dark and not quite focused.
"Thanks for letting me know," he said quietly. "I'll see you around, cowboy."

Harland tried to smile at the compliment. He didn't exactly feel it was true, though. He was pretty filthy. And beaten up. Alistaire had left his mark on the cowboy, certainly.
"Didn't bother me none, I just didn't know what to do for him," Harland said, "Bein' touched was always comfortin'. You know, like a hand through my hair, or a squeeze on the shoulder... I didnae know what to do for a man so terrified of other people."
Harland looked away for a second, until he heard Alistaire groaning in protest. Ian started to carry him away.
Looking at Ian's back, Harland flipped out his phone. He hoped Ian wouldn't stop to check his texts for a little. Text to Ian If you could use an extra friend right now, Ian, I can be that for you. Not that I'm worried, or anything. I don't get worried wink
But he looked tired, and sad. Was what his brother had said true? Harland would do anything to help him. To help both brothers, really. It didn't bother him. Setting aside what he wanted was easy. He already had more than he'd ever hoped he could have, so the gratitude mostly erased the pain of loss he might feel now.
Besides, he kind of liked pining. It was more fun than having, because if he had things he could lose them.
