And yet, there everyone was, battling away, trying to beat her, or free her, or worse. They all knew what fate lay in store for them, but still they fought. Because it was the point of the game. [TOTAL DAMAGE: 720] astra here In the absence of an answer, ALICE had shown Mimsy what she wanted to know. Grief looked as pathetic and useless now as she ever had. She was crowned as royalty, but Mimsy knew better - she knew that Grief had no place in Wonderland, and that this was not where she would stay. They would rid themselves of her, and with the Red Queen of Destruction back in power, Wonderland would be as it should be. It made perfect sense, in the way that Wonderland did, which was how she was so very certain that this was right. "You should not have caged her, you know," she told the miserable excuse for royalty, as she bent down to release the tiny, wriggling Alice in her arms. "She is Destruction. She cannot be contained. She will always prevail, and will always provide for the best of us." Just as she had already provided for her. Mimsy turned her attention to something more worthy of it, eyes focused on Robert. She owed this to her. Destruction had kept her alive. The bells rang, in celebration of the accomplishments born beneath Destruction's caring watch, and she bore a crown to show the 'Queen' that she was the one who truly ruled Wonderland. [TOTAL DAMAGE: 757] The bells kept ringing, and Robert kept fighting, and she kept a watchful eye as she fought next to his side. An encouraging little tap here and there was easy to provide to heal him, something to remind him that she was here, something to keep him alive. It was important that he remained here. She didn't know how many replacement constructs ALICE would provide to house his consciousness, if they continued to allow them to be destroyed. She would plead with her, of course, but she knew that it would only happen if it was beneficial to their goal. It was beneficial to hers. It was a crucial part, necessary for its existence. Necessary for her existence. Maybe, just maybe ALICE would understand that. [ Total Damage: 807 ] Mindless battling was in his blood. He'd done it as a child, he'd done it as a teenager, and he'd certainly done it as a Hunter, every single time they sent him on a mission without any prior info. His cards flashed in his hands, and then they were gone, burying themselves into the formless queen and hardly touching anything solid. There was no telling whether he was really doing damage, or not. It was just part of the game. And that was reason enough. So he played his part, the good little puppet, until the time came for the game to end. He tried not to think about the end, even as it came closer with every card he threw. [TOTAL DAMAGE: 827] The information that ALICE so willingly provided in regards to their current directive sat near the front of her mind. The game would end, just as she'd said, upon the defeat of the Queens. Perhaps just one Queen would suffice, if they could just prove Destruction's importance. The game would end, and Mimsy was afraid of what that meant, once, but she wasn't any longer. ALICE would replace them. Mimsy believed, with every fractured piece of her, that she intended to bring their bodies to Wonderland. The game would be over, and they would have won, and they would have no obligations aside from their own. At the end of the game, they could just live, and begin to make Wonderland their home. Mimsy smiled, and her stare was distant, lost in a world that would never exist. [TOTAL DAMAGE: 962] The longer they fought, the weaker Grief made them. That was Grief's power, her awful, senseless power: to drive them to a feeble state, where they could do nothing but mourn the loss of a stronger time. Mimsy hated her for it. She despised her. Disgust coiled in her stomach as she saw her slowly feed on Robert, consuming all that they had become together. Not again. She would not let Grief have him, not now, not ever, not ever, ever again. The scythe was an easy deterrent for Grief's filthy touch. She sliced through the intangible tendrils that spread towards him, preventing him from falling into her grasp for just a little longer. If she could just keep standing, she could keep Grief's hands off of him. It was more difficult than it sounded, but this had never been something simple. [ Total Damage: 1062 ] He could feel Mimsy healing him, even though the fight was so crazed he could hardly see her. He wanted to thank her, to tell her that he could fight on because of her, but he never had a chance to say a word. So instead, he kept spamming his marriage ability card, causing that loud, obnoxious explosion of confetti and birds and bells and the giant sign that told her CONGRATULATIONS, SOMEONE LOVES YOU. And he did. The Queen, however, got none of his love as he threw an entire new deck of magical cards directly at where her neck should have been.
