The question, startling in its lack intrusive nosiness, sarcasm, or any sort of negativity at all had her staring at Taym. Eyes wide with pleasant surprise and curiosity, she placed her piece. The tower wobbled and fell, and with it, America. Status Round: 3 Pieces Taken: 11 Total Points: 24

He watched in grim silence, only vaguely satisfied that it hadn't been him this time, and after giving her an absent prod, he got up, fished her phone out of her pocket, and finished reading the conversation with Lawrence. On second thought, he folded up his scarf and, ever the gentleman, tucked it under her face.
This was the extent of his meddling. He replaced the phone and flopped back down in his seat, reaching for his own to fill up the wait. As he did so, he lifted a middle finger to the windows where the life techs must be waiting.

She woke to something soft that smelled like fresh laundry and not nearly as much smoke as she'd have expected. Sitting up with a groan, she gave Taym a chagrined smile and his scarf back. "Was doing so well too." She placed her hands to each side of the fallen tower, and intoned clearly, "Constructum." Like magic, the fall reversed itself, returning the game to the point where they'd left off. "Now I've got this chance and one more, then I'll be out like a light for a good hour and the tower won't reset to a save point after that long of a wait." He sighed, not even exactly sure how she'd managed that unless she'd been a lot more stoned from the tranq than she'd looked, and with resignation said the expected magic word before resuming the game on his own.

With resignation, he capped off a round while she was out, slowly and carefully, after replacing the scarf under her head once more. He would have laughed at her, had he not felt such intense sympathy.
He took his time, since she wasn't there for him to put on a show of false bravado, and meticulously, gently, with hands that only shook a little, he secured and replaced two more pieces.
He saw no need to pursue the game any further. He'd carried an unconscious Peyton back to her room once, but he eyed America with her height and her curves and he thought about the way his arms looked in the shower, all bone and frail, and he decided not to try it.
Instead he gingerly attempted to arrange her in such a way that the crick in her neck would be minimal, and upon securing from the slightly flabbergasted life techs (god knows how many betting pools he'd upset that day, not going down even once) his earned Sharpie, he pushed her hair off the back of her neck and, lifting a page out of Peyton's book of polite ways to deface your fallen opponent, wrote "YOU TRIED" in the vague hopes that she might decide to put her hair up soon. He saw no need to insult her--it was enough to know that anyone walking behind her would be aware that she'd lost at a game of Jenga. The shared shame of all Hunters.
Instead he settled down next to her, pulling a battered, much-loved paperback of Lolita out of his inside coat pocket and waiting for her to return to consciousness.

America came to, noted he was still up and the state of the tower, and gave him a small, quietly proud smile. "You won?"

"Perfect game," he answered after a bare glance up from the page, and sarcastically added: " Of course. Spare me a gloating lecture on why it was your saintly presence that permitted me to prevail for once. You good for the hike back to the dorms?"

"I would never use the word saintly," she mimicked his earlier criticism with a grin. America stood slowly, taking the time to stretch her joints.
"Yeah, about the dorms, can I stay in your room? Just for tonight. Konstantin's fussing about the door thing and doesn't want me sleeping down there until the new door's in." She rolled her eyes at the memory of the conversation.

He hadn't meant to hesitate--he'd had the full space of a sentence to avoid it, to process the question and the sudden swell of panic it induced--but he did, a breath of a pause while he was getting to his feet, book safely returned to his coat. "Sure," he said. "We can trade."

She started to smile and then paused, thinking, and shook her head. "No can do, then. He's was pretty specific about me not being alone." Another eye roll. "As if I can't take perfectly good care of myself. Never you mind it. Now what should I buy myself for lunch?"
