He nodded, hoping that doing so would help shed some light on the situation. "I, well, uh, to be honest, I really don't know." It was true. Aside from training, he was a pretty boring person. He watched as the plates were put down, and stared at the strawberries also.
"... second?" He didn't even remember the first.

Sherry smiled at him, then poked at a strawberry with her fork. "It's okay, we're at work all the time. We don't have much time for anything but work." How long had it been since she'd had time for any of her old hobbies? Far, far to long. "But we can try to find out? Not that we have to..." She wasn't implying that he was boring, she just didn't want him to be bored today.
By now she was blushing. "Yeah. The first, um, was a lot less dramatic." Or it had been until she told him about it. Sherry worked on the waffle, a little regretful for bringing any of it up. She felt like she'd mentioned it before, but... "The second time was in world created to stop Merlin. It was- You were stupidly romantic." She felt silly saying it. Perhaps it was something she should have kept to herself. "You, um," more poking at her food, "you kissed me when I wasn't expecting it and then you ran off to tear your heart out." She stuck a pick piece of waffle in her mouth and looked away. I sounded lame to her own ears, the way she said it, or the fact that she'd said it at all. She probably shouldn't even bring up stuff from before.
"The waffle is good."

Though she seemed to think highly of him, he only gave her a weak smile. Really, Sherry, he was a boring guy. Though, when she went into detail about memories he had forgotten, he frowned slightly. Had he... really done something like that? It didn't sound like him, but he did sort of remember something between Merlin and Excalibur.
Rather than dwell on this fact, he only watched as Sherry seemed to be embarrassed and turned away, letting out a small chuckle. When she did things like this, it almost made him think she was younger than him. "Then you should have more."
He cut a generous portion off his own waffle, making sure it included the strawberries and whip cream, and plopped it onto her plate.

She wasn't sure how to take his reaction to what she'd said. Which only made her regret saying it more. He probably didn't want to hear about things like that, and she really did feel silly sharing it. Silly little stories no one but her remembered. Armagnac said she was foolish for hanging onto such things; they didn't matter anyway. Sherry was just going to bore Jake to death, wasn't she? Hopefully not.
So she was happy when he followed her change of subject. Even if it meant him giving her most of his food. "But you..." He hated it. She'd been right. "We're getting lunch after this."
She shoved more waffle in her mouth.

"If you have room for it," he laughed, finishing off what was left on his plate in two bites. Thankfully, it wasn't overly sweet, considering he had given all the toppings to Sherry, but it wasn't something he would eat on a regular basis.

Sherry stared at him, then looked down at her plate and then back again. It was a good thing he seemed so amused by it all, or else she'd seriously believe she was ruining everything. "I will," she replied, very determinedly sticking another bit of waffle in her mouth. It was a good thing thing these were a bit smaller than what she was used to. By the time she'd swallowed, she was feeling a little nervous again. No pressure, him just sitting there while she ate. "Your turn to talk." She tried to very nonchalantly stab a strawberry and eat it. It wasn't very ladylike.

If anything, he was probably the one ruining it, doing nothing but stare at her with his cheek resting in one palm, smirking. Sherry blushing and stuffing her face with waffles. So cute.
"Um..." He felt kind of bad that he didn't remember when he had actually fallen for her, considering he probably stupidly forgot that moment, and even after, there was no instant "love at first sight" thing. It was more a gradual liking/appreciation and the desire of wanting to keep her close and safe after everything she had done for him. "Have I told you how cute you look right now?" So romantic.

Jake sitting there staring at her like that only made her blush harder. There was no way to actually eat all of her waffle and not be self conscious, with him just watching anyway. Especially after spilling some of her happy, nearly secret memories. She didn't even know how to take his expression, but part of that could have been because she was trying not to look at him. At least making sure she had both strawberry and whipped cream on each waffle bite gave her something to focus on. Unless that was weird. Was it weird? She didn't know. She did know she'd asked him to talk in the hopes that filling the silence at their table would make everything far less embarrassing. It didn't work. "I-" Sherry stopped and blinked at him. "But," she said, swallowing, "I'm...I'm eating a mountain of waffle," an exaggeration, "and being a horrible conversation partner." He'd done a nice job of causing her to fluster; she could feel the blush deepening and growing, her neck turning red too. "But thank you." And she meant that. The only reason she flustered so much, was because she adored that compliment. Not that she'd admit it, not right then. "Unless you're being sarcastic, and if that's the case I'm going to make you eat the rest of this."

He hadn't meant to make her uncomfortable. If anything, he was hoping to make her less conscious about eating with that comment, but apparently it backfired. "I'd rather be watching you eating." And now it just borderlined creepy.
When she seemed to suspect him, he held his hands up in defense. "I'm not, I'm not, really!" He gave an awkward laugh and rubbed the back of his neck. "...sorry, I'm not really good at this."

Sherry didn't necessarily find it creepy. His comments just made her feel like she was blushing more. And be very, very self-conscious about how she was eating. The fork was very gently left to rest on the plate.
"No, no, you're fine." She smiled at him. "I think dates make most people a little uncomfortable." Who had called it a date first? Was that all her fault? Was she creating expectations for this excursion? What sort? Good job, Sherry. Way to lay on the pressure.
"You're fine. Just... be you." She reached out to take his hand again. "I just want you to have fun."

He really did find it adorable how she blushed at nearly everything he said. Just like a typical teenage girl. In a way, it made him feel as if he wasn't the younger one in the relationship for once. "Yah..." Another awkward laugh.
He smiled as she reached out to take his hand, and he linked his fingers with hers. "And I just want you to have a good time. To, well, make it up to you after all the crap I've put you through."

She would have just flustered more if she knew he found it adorable, and not on purpose, either. She also would have panicked if she thought she made him feel younger, and tried to find out how exactly. If it made him feel inferior in anyway way she'd be sure to put a stop to it. So far, age was not something they'd discussed in this incarnation of their relationship.
She didn't know any of what he thought, though. All she was thinking was that she'd gone and messed this up already. Waffles and flustering. At least he was laughing. It couldn't be all bad if he was laughing, right?
Squeezing his hand, she let her smile fill the silence for a few moments. "It's going to take more than lunch to do that," she said, deciding to be completely honest. "But," she squeezed his hand harder, "you are well on your way." She gave the waffles a meaningful look. "Just promise me you'll tell me if you aren't happy." She was talking about more than just the date, maybe.

It was less about the actual age and more... physical mentality? It felt as if she was the one who constantly tried to pursue the relationship, while he was the one constantly ruining it. For once, he just wanted to make things right.
"I know..." he said quietly, quite aware of all he had done to her. Or at least, what he had remembered, which were already terrible enough as is. He didn't want to know what other suffering he had put her through, and how much she had to put up with just for him. He gave a weak smile as she tried to reassure him and shook his head.
"No, this is about you. I promised you." He looked at her plate and then back up at her. "Do you want more?"

Something in her eyes grew a little sad as she sat there looking at him. Then she looked down at her plate, and when she looked back up she was all smiles. "No, they've been delicious, but I don't think I could eat anymore. And I can't be happy until you've had more than two bites." She turned to glance around and get the attention of their waiter. Time to get the bill and figure out how to pay these folks. It only took a short wave before the man was headed in their direction. While they waited, Sherry leaned in close to Jake, squeezing his hand the whole while. "I didn't mean it like that. You don't owe me anything. Just remember to be honest. We both deserve honesty." Lifting his hand, she kissed the back of it again. If he didn't stop her, she'd play with his hands all day. The mere hint of that thought caused Armagnac to grumble something which caused Sherry to faintly blush again. Not that she relinquished her hold on his hand at all, she just hoped he didn't notice. "Though," she grinned as the waiter joined them, a little grateful for the distraction, "I would love it if you paid." She could always buy his lunch.

Though she said to be honest, he wondered if it would have been rude to tell her that having her kiss his hands made him feel a little uncomfortable. If anything, it felt like the whole age/gender reversal again, as if he was the one being courted instead. But it was out of sheer instinct he had pulled his hand back when the waiter arrived, partially out of the embarrassment of having someone see.
"You didn't even have to ask. I fully plan on covering all the costs for today." After he handed his card over, he turned back to Sherry. "Where did you want to go now?"
