"Oh, yeah! Absolutely! I miss having a CD player- I had one a friend gave me a couple years back for the holidays, but um. Well, the place has been destroyed quite a few times. Keeping my guitar safe was always the higher priority," His fingers were drumming on the table cloth like a nervous mini keyboard as his glass was filled in, a hand raised to try to stop the waiter from filling his glass, but his hesitation made it too late. "I think without music, I'd go a little batty ahahaha..." Well... well, what the hell, it was a holiday, right?

She looked saddened at the idea of losing a perfectly good CD player. "That is awful. The island needs music, it needs to be bathed in it. At home it is like, you can walk past people's windows and they will have televisions on, music playing, on the bus people will have tinny music in their ears. It's everywhere. On the island its so dead, it's like losing a little bit of hope." she sipped her refilled drink. "I don't blame you for fighting for your guitar. If I had a piano it would be the most important thing. I hope one day to get something to listen to compositions on aswell."
It was curious the level of nervousness he displayed over the alcohol, wearing his emotions on his sleeve, and it was only then she wondered if he had a drink problem.
Keep him drinking.
"I would too, its like background noise you don't really notice till it's gone. Like birdsong."

Jerry gave a sigh, closing his eyes as he recalled everything she described. Occasionally there were hunters with headphones, but they took bribes or connections to the Life Labs Jerry was wary to look into. Here, in teh real world, he could hear the soft background music of the restaurant, and he wondered idly if around the corner there was a live pianist or not. Out in the street it had been a a potpourri of sound, from the explosive beats from one store to the enticing jovial new music from the radio that he was unfamiliar with but dying to hear more... the world continued turning around them, but Deus stayed still, trapped hurting and suffering on behalf of the rest of humanity so Humanity could continue on...
His mind drifted back to Charlotte, to the things she had to say about it all, and his stomach twisted slightly.
"Do... do you ever think..." He started, but found that line of thought dangerous, and quickly silenced himself with a deep suckle at his wine.

"Think what?" she asked, unwilling to let the thought slip away, giving him an intent look. "I think a lot of things Jerry."

Jerry bit his lip. He shouldn't drag her into this. Chantelle was too... new. Unblemished by the world they lived in. His hand was shaking as he moved to lift his glass and take another - rather large- sip. "Why do we have to live the way we do? On the island I mean... like... like a prison."

"I don't know. Because they say people will get killed if we go back I guess. Either us or our families." she took a bite of her food and chewed it thoughtfully, eyeing him. Only when she'd washed it down with some wine did she add. "It is a prison, like. But also a safe place. I mean, if it's true."
Something in her eyes lit up. "Are you thinking of running away Jerry?"

"NO. No. No, nothing like that," Jerry finished his glass, taking in a deep breath before starting on his meal before it got cold- it was expensive, and by golly, he was going to eat it.
He cleared his throat after chewing a moment. "My father did. It got him killed."

"Is that what they like, told you or what actually happened?" she asked thoughtfully. "Cause like a lot of the stuff I've heard has just been stuff they've said. I've not seen any actual proof. I mean." she gestured with a hand around the restaurant. "Here we are. And it seems all right."
There was some subsurface flicker of irritation as the rich, good food sated the hunger which was always there, reminding her - him - he was in the correct body, alive. Connected. She took a slow stabilising breath and noted that she had to keep an eye on her wine intake too.
"I'm very sorry to hear about him though."

Jerry drew in a sharp breath that turned into a sigh, and he forced into a smile, "Well, I did get most of my information from Dr. H... but he's dead in any case." This was not good date talk. He took another delectable bite of meat that practically melted on his tongue. "My point is," He took a moment to finish swallowing. "Just because it's a military organization doesn't mean we should be prisoners. I mean... look at you guys, living in that basement. Our homes get destroyed weekly, pretty much- we're experimented on, threatened when we disagree with an order, we're LUCKY to have this leave right now- some of us rarely get to leave the island outside of a mission! We aren't free. We're property of... of the company." He remembered where they were, glancing around to make sure no one was listening in to their conversation.
"There's... there's nothing we can really do about it anyway, I suppose." Although there were people who would try. He cleared his throat, and helped himself to another bite, "This is really really delicious by the way... what is it?"

"I agree like, we aren't kids. We should be treated like people with lives and like, possessions and safe places." She knew why H wouldn't care for any of that.
At the question she eyed their plate. "I uh. It was expensive." she said, waving a hand vaguely. "It's steak I think." She knew exactly what it was and what its price tag was, but it wasn't appropriate knowledge to have. "It's really good though right?"
She eyed the fork and found her thoughts skewing off-persona. She hauled them back firmly.
"I wish we got more leave, it would be like, more incentive to fight more, we could go see all sorts of musicals and things. Maybe even recitals! Why does no one suggest it?"

"Oh, it's delicious! I've never had meat so tender, seriously-" He assured her with a wobbly smile. He could certainly see why the price tag, although next time he definitely needed to take her to a good Cheese Steak.
"Well, I... I've had something in the works for a bit- I've just started getting the ball rolling but people already seem interested... it's no Leave or anything but... well I've been writing a musical of my own, actually..."

"It's the nicest thing anyone can like do for an animal like, cooking it right." she mused as she polished off the last of her dish and chased it down with the wine. Noting the edge of clumsiness in her normally nimble fingers as she picked up the glass, she reiterated she probably should not drink more than than she presently had. An amusing thought struck her and she couldn't help but add. "Haha its like a shame they can't like, cook criminals or whatever. Pay their debt to society."
Jerry's comment mercifully derailed her morbid tangent into bright eagerness. "Oh my god, a musical for the island?!" she adjusted her voice to a reasonable level as a few other diners glanced over. In a faux whisper she added. "That sounds amazing." she beamed at him and added. "Can I help?"

Jerry wrinkled his nose at the suggestion, drowning the last of his wine and nearly spit it out at her sudden enthusiasm- but thankfully swallowed it without choking. "Of course!! I'm going to have open auditions soon but we could definitely use a talented pianist!" He beamed, working hard to keep his own voice at a respectable level.
