Gyafrith saw the queen favoring the older, brown one and he roared angrily, why in the world would she choose that one?!? He was about to fly faster, trying to close the distance, when he felt his rider's own anger, which was unusual for the other to feel.

Mine, why are you angry, you did not lose to a brown. Am I influencing your feelings again?Gyafrith asked, the shock of it making him stop in mid flight.

'Yes, a little, but I don't like how you are acting, Gyafrith. Are you not always the one telling me that I am your champion? Well, you are mine and I am used to you acting better than this. You let your lust get the best of you, you were mean to your own brothers. These are the same ones you would lay down your life for, all because of one female. Let the brown have her,'Ashlyn responded.

Gyafrith lowered his head in shame, he could feel his rider's disappointment in him and he was ashamed. He bellowed an apology to his brothers, before he gave a mental one to Ashlyn.

Hatteth was initially wary of the queen's words. No tricks? No last minute "just kidding, try and catch me" turn or dive? But it seemed she was genuine, matching her wingbeats with his and making no move to pull away. With a croon of his own he flew forward to catch her. It seemed that the gold had made her choice. Personally Taivalth found it a strange one. The brown hadn't seemed to try as hard as the other competitors and he had assumed that the gold would most likely be drawn to that in a mate. Instead it seemed as though she was choosing age. The brown wasn't particularly old, but when the majority of the dragons chasing were weyrlings, he could not fault her for choosing the only one that had actually attained his full size. Still, it was a pity he had not won, but Taivalth accepted the wishes of the leader of this race.
