"I think you're right. She said I was her first boyfriend, so.. I think maybe she just wasn't ready for it, like you said." Which still confused him. Seemed like just because she was older, didn't make her know any more than he did. He actually had more experience than she did in that field.
He winced at the memory of the break up, grateful he'd gone back to patch it up. "It started out as a fight that I started. Things were really bad for a while, but I went back and evened it out again. We're just friends now." He cared for her a lot. But that didn't change the fact they were from different worlds. It wasn't meant to be.

He gave a bit of a hiss that that conclusion. "Friends but with a past. That is a bit hard. Good luck to you on whatever you choose next." Be it with Eva when she was ready or someone else. He really had no faith in people sticking around with someone. He felt it was better if Otto just found someone who was just as ready as he was now, and if Eva did come around, return to that if he decided that was still what he wanted.
He rose up and was about to twist dry the towel before he considered something. What with breaking things off, he had to wonder. "You're not old enough to drink are you?" Then he decided on what he was really wanting to ask. "How old are you anyways? I can't tell with some people on this island. I would blame the water here but that doesn't really account for being both short and young looking for some people." Otto included, but mainly Gale.

"Drinking laws are a bit hazy on this island." He muttered, since he'd had a drink on a number of occasions. He was surprised that Melvin seemed way more civil and understanding now. It calmed the boy down slightly.
Finally, he actually asked his age. He finally didn't just assume he was very young, like Rep did. "I'm nineteen." He answered, standing with the wet towel. His knees started to hurt again, something knew that had been bothering him for the last week or so.
Taking the sopping wet towel to the kitchenette, he wrung it out into the sink.

He had to smile at that. "Right, I forgot the very strange system we have here. Drinking, running around with weapons without a license and most without any idea of how to handle them, and really no trials if you screw up." No mercy and a few freedoms. They were in their own bizarre country here on the island with foreign rules despite none of them being natives.
As for age, he considered it. "No far off in years from when I arrived here." He had been 23, and now was 24. He still felt much older than Otto did. He only asked about drinking because a breakup felt like one of those times that a person deserved a drink, but it might be a bit belated at this point. "I guess it didn't happen recently then?"
Rising, he went over to the sink and twisted it out a few times. "You were rather young though to start as a Hunter. I guess you were like the others with a poor home life?"
Melvin held no stops when really meeting a person, and continued on his merry little question conversation.

"The break up was a few weeks ago." He answered honestly. They'd patched up the remaining relationship a few days ago, just before the storm. She was at least a friend now, if nothing else. It would have been worse to leave it as it had been, filled with hate and sadness.
"Yeah, pretty much." He answered just above a mumble. A shitty home life was the exact reason he'd left so young. "I was sixteen when I got recruited. Woke up from the pods after I turned seventeen." He'd been in that pod for nearly half a year. Maybe more. It had been mind blowing, at the time.

His eyes shot wide at that age. "Jesus! They could have at least waited a few years. Sixteen?" That was really still in highschool and way to young to be recruited for anything. "I'm surprised they don't just have a set age limit when recruiting hunters." He had to wonder if they took kids younger than that, and that really made him uncomfortable. He hoped sixteen was the youngest they went and rarely decided to go that early.
"I was only around 22 when they asked me." Still far from sixteen, but not far from Otto's current age. Regardless of age, Otto was still his senior in terms of experience, and he had the room to prove it. It was still hard to considering someone your senior when they had women breaking into his room to clean his room like he was sixteen still.
Then his curiosity twisted, and he felt himself unable to even look at Otto as he went from just asking information to a more personal curiosity. "Do you....like it better here than before you got recruited?"

Otto never considered it unfair, as far as his age went. He'd always assumed he was old enough to make his own decisions. Whether he was mature enough never dawned on him. It was everyone else that seemed to judge him on how many years he'd lived. Something that always upset him, since he ad no control of it.
"I wonder how they find us in the first place." He wondered aloud, since they were discussing the age they were asked.
Otto squirmed a bit at his new question, taking the wrung out towel and heading to the bedroom again. "I'm not sure. I did at first... I mean.. it was bad at home, but I never feared for my life, either.."

He had to wonder that as well. "I haven't found any information on that, but then again, recruitment doesn't seem to be part of the Life department as far as I can tell. I have to wonder if there is an office outside Deus back in the normal world where they just mass search people's records." He just had a image of a lot of people at desks before computers typing away and pulling his file up for consideration. "A bit creepy either way to consider that someone was researching you before asking if you wanted to go into this rollercoaster ride that is being a Hunter." Faking your death. Going in a pod. A mind challenge. Waking up. Then there was that little thing called just trying to stay alive for the rest of it and maybe making a difference.
He just gave a small hum at Otto's answer, as he himself was never sure if he made the right choice. It had bothered him for a while now, and he had hoped he could more people who were more sure of their decision to make him feel better that he had made the right choice in the end.
Not wanting to think about it anymore, he moved over and started to soak up the water again with the towel, going quiet for a moment.

"Deus is creepy by default." He grumbled. It made him shudder. They had files on everyone, on everything about them. Even birth records and genealogy.
Otto's nerves settled again as they lulled into a silence. He focused on the task and took solace he didn't have to speak for a while. He remained that way until the carpet was dry again. Or dry enough, anyway. The teen huffed, tossing the towel over the kitchen sink with a wet sound. His arms were tired, his wrists hurt. He was exhausted, and still wearing damp clothes. Were it not for a Fear shield, he'd likely risk getting sick. He'd rarely gotten sick while being a hunter. He assumed it had to do with the shield keeping him in top shape.
"Is that it?"

Melvin snapped out of it a bit as he set the down in the sink. "For now. The frame should hold tonight. Ask for a window to install tomorrow. They will probably make you do it yourself. A mist would be a good person to ask about window installation. Also, don't walk barefoot around the window and vacuum the spot a few more times. A few pieces of glass might still be stuck in the carpet. And.." He looked around, trying to remember if he missed anything. "Just remember to return the tarp and wood back if it's salvageable to the closet, along with the toolkit once you install your window. They'll need that back - oh and don't tell anyone I broke into there." He warned him.
He gathered his soggy hat and jacket. He needed a hot shower now after this. "I think that should cover everything. If your floor is still wet, I can let you borrow a blowdyer to dry the floor. That's all I can think of." He said, glancing at the rather nice bathroom that he was sorta dying to peek into to see how big it really was before heading to the door. "Dress in some dry clothes and sleep well." He informed him. He had to be concerned about anyone's health, Hunter abilities or not, when they were in wet clothes. It instantly made him worried about catching a cold. At least Otto had the luxury of taking a hot bath if he wanted. It was back to communal showers for him.

Melvin's talking mostly went over Otto's head. The teen stared at him with a glazed over look in his eyes. Be it the fatigue or the disinterest in working, he seemed less than interested in the advice. "Uh huh.." He automatically responded to most of it.
Dry clothes piqued his interest. He nodded to it, dragging his tired limbs to his bedroom. For good measure, he'd sleep on the couch that night. His room scared him right now. "Okay... oh uh.." He looked over at Melvin. "Thanks. You helped me out. If you need the shower too, go ahead. I don't wanna use it right now. Too tired." He was getting into dry clothes and passing out right away.
After all, he knew well the horrors of communal showers.
"One time offer. Take it or leave it." He called, already pulling off his top.

Melvin again stared at Otto, but this time in disbelief. Did he just offer him his shower for a one time use. A private shower that was, by what he could imagine from his talk with Otto, only used by one person and probably cleaned by this Molly person?
If his eyes could sparkle, they would have.
"Oh...well, if you don't mind." He said, trying to play it off. "It would save me time from going to the communal one after all..." He sorta trailed, glancing at the bathroom door and back at Otto as if he was just waiting for the final gesture to have at it.

"It's fine. Knock yerself out." He drawled, already changed into dry clothes. Sweatpants and a long sleeved shirt. Pinnacle of comfort. He sighed wistfully as he flopped onto the couch, which already had an assortment of blankets near it for when Nevada had her sleep overs.
He seemed to forget there were no more towels in the bathroom. Only one small hand cloth draped by the sink.

If he had a tail, it would have wagged.
Turning, he headed to the bathroom to inspect it and also use it.
When he walked in, shutting the door behind him, he felt weak in the knees. The floor was a swirling blue tile, clean, dry, and spotless. The rest was a mixture of blue and white, without a smudge of black mold anywhere or soap scum on the glass of the shower chamber. There was a standing, enclosed shower at one corner with impressive shower jets, not to mention a seperate bath that was wide and sparkling. A large trio of mirrors overlooked a wide counterspace where a simple sink was set. Overall, it was clean, large, and made the Lifer want to lock himself in for a few hours.
Damn, he really wanted to be a full Hunter. He wanted a big bathroom SO VERY BADLY!
He wasted little time in getting flushed over every detail, as he was sure to do if left alone, and went for the stand shower, undressing and glad for the powerful water pressure and hot water. With very little hair, he didn't need much of any product, which was probably good considering that it didn't look as if Otto carried nearly as many at Melvin owned. At least Melvin now knew what shampoo he used, which was his own odd sorta habit to figure out with everyone he met.
Once he was done and not pushing the too-long-and-too-creepy on the length of the shower what with someone else owning it, he stepped out and then paused. He glanced around for any showers, checked out a cabneit, and them remembered that they had used the towels on the ground.
Dripping wet, he was left debating between putting on his clothes and making those wet or making a makeshift towel. He reached out at the pathetic hand cloth and ran it over his shower hair, before sighing. He doubted Otto had anything when he had had only used the towels to dry off his floor.
Actually, thinking about it, what idiot only owned 2 towels to begin with? He should have at least 6.
Grumbling, he looked over at the t-shirt he had been wearing under his sweater. It was a black shirt with a skeleton hand holding a bunch of dead roses and a heart. Maceration Mayhem was written underneath, and was one of the heavy metal bands Melvin enjoyed. Holding it up, he gave another sigh of defeat and dried off as best he could.
Stepping out of the bathroom, he held his now wet shirt and previously wet sweater in his hands, nicely folded, but held close. He didn't like going shirtless. It exposed the large, swirling marks around his neck, and now the fresh swirl scar from the worm that he got from Rep's hoard.
Awkwardly and very self-conscious, he picked up his jacket from the chair. "You really need to invest in more towels." he pointed out.
"Thanks though. Your bathroom is..." Amazing. Lovely. About to go under new ownership. "...nice."
He headed to the door, still very damp but at least cleaner than before. That was always a plus.

Otto was nearly passed out when Melvin returned, only having stayed awake for the older one's benefit. It would be weird to be asleep while he was in the other room showering. He was still almost a stranger.
He flinched, looking up with wide eyes. "s**t.." He forgot they'd sued the towels. "Right... I'll do that." He was due for a vacation, anyway. He'd add that to the list of things he needed to buy.
The compliment on his bathroom was confusing, but he nodded anyway. "Right.. thanks. G'night." He waited until Melvin was gone, before promptly flopping his face into a pillow. He passed out right away.
