Inkbrand felt his lips tilt up even more when Frolic accepted the unspoken invitation, but unless he wanted to smash an admittedly delicious tart in between their lips and ruin the kiss, he'd have to pass on the opportunity. So sad. Still, they would be traveling together for a while - other opportunities were bound to crop up every now and then. Inkbrand wasn't exactly know for his patience, but again, with good food and a nice atmosphere around, he was feeling much less aggressive with a pretty pony than he normally would be.
He didn't let go of the tart immediately though. Inkbrand kept a good hold onto it with his teeth, his face close to Forest's as he held her gaze for a few seconds - before, quite abruptly, his lips quirked upwards and finally gave up the tart. The stallion couldn't help running his tongue over his lips in an almost obscene gesture to lick off any residue as he gave the mare a cheeky wink, but he let her go after that, head once again turning towards the food.
"You're getting off easy today, babe. You'd better be grateful."
His perusal of the trays was cut short however, when Cobalt suddenly spoke up, the unicorn's words causing his ears to fall back onto his head slightly. "Well some pony's got their balls in a choke hold," Inkbrand sneered, leaning one elbow on the table top as he leant across towards the orange unicorn. What the hay was his problem, anyways? Either the unicorn lacked some serious social skills, or he was trying to prove how observant and insightful he was while being simultaneously condescending.
And ponies said he was the one with the social issues!
"That's right, the name's Inkbrand," he said, never mind the fact that Cobalt had probably known it already and has just pretended not to know, the way ponies did when they were trying to making others feel unimportant, "and I'm the stallion the mares come running at to keep them up all night." A sly smirk crossed his features as he leaned closer, snagging up another croissant on the table. "And Cobat Thunder, was it? You're just another Twilight Sparkle wanna-be, aren't you? Celestia's second best."
It wasn't too much of a leap to make. Inkbrand had been listening when Celestia had introduced the stallion as a student - when he hadn't been to busy staring at her bucking mile long legs, buck - but even relatively new to Ponyville as he was, Inkbrand had learned enough of Twilight Sparkle to never, ever, want to be in the same room as her. Supposedly, she had been the princess' best and star pupil, capable of magic far beyond the normal unicorn. He'd think any pony would get an inferiority complex from that.

Current Location: Canterlot Palace Library Current Company: The Sister of the Sun, the six chosen, and the Ibexian Sisters Oh, Our Cookies: blehpost. I like Inkbrand x3 From the earthen's choice words, Cobalt tilted his head in slight confusion, seeming not to mind the likely intentional misinformation about his name. "Well, that's odd, no one has yet to compare me to Celestia's favourite pet" he responded as he assessed the situation. "Although I don't see the reason either, it's as contrasting as your occupation with my own. Sure, she may now some secrets that the Sun Goddess has taught her, but she doesn't have my heritage, so it's pretty even grounds: We're both students in the same field, but she has a tutor that keeps her focus on too little. That's also the only reason she was inaugurated in the first place, so now I guess we're even in rank, too. Fun colleague if you get her drunk" As he spoke, the mage summoned up yet another blue magical sphere, although played around with it as if it was a large marble. "In terms of general casting, she has the advantage, but only recently did she learn the existence of the energy a magi uses. Inversely, in terms of general knowledge she's trumped easily. Here's an example, Inky: What is the Starswirl Axiom?" By now, Cobalt Lightning easily assumed Inkbrand wouldn't be paying attention anymore., but hoped the childish nickname would regain his attention. Although, also assumed from his behavior, the grey stallion would still not know what the mage was going on about. "Don't feel bad, or stupid, Twilight didn't know at first, either: Too busy learning new spells instead of learning how the spells work."

"Then you must have a very wise father," Tech told Kori, offering yet another small smile. But his brows furrowed slightly in thought. "If I'm not mistaken, you mentioned once that your unicorn magic is based on ice and snow, correct?"
He tilted his head at the pale blue stallion. "I find it ironic that your element is love when ice and snow is so often associated with indifference and apathy. Hence phrases like 'cold-hearted' and 'heart of ice'." The earth pony glanced at Kori's cutie mark curiously. It was immensely difficult not to giggle or laugh with the tart in her teeth, but Frolic was a stubborn mare and once she set her mind to something, she didn't let up until she'd seen it through. Sadly that seemed to happen all too fast. Not before she managed to exchange an intense stare with her tug-of-tart-war challenger, however - one that, along with Ink's close proximity, caused her stomach to do another flip-flop. The memory of his gaze would probably be etched in her memory for the remainder of the evening and likely the rest of the night in her dreams, but that had probably been Ink's intention.
Good gracious, though...charming, handsome stallions, magical elements, unfamiliar lands, untold danger with obstacles and tests they couldn't even fathom...it would be a wonder if the mare managed to get a wink of sleep at all. She was almost certain her sheer excitement would keep her from the restful shores of slumberland no matter how hard tried to get there.
With a small squeak of astonishment, the earth pony was brought back to the present by Inkbrand as he finally allowed her the remainder of their shared treat. She felt silly and clumsy as she quickly tried to scarf down the dessert, knowing it would have been nearly impossible at that point to appear dainty with the size of the bite she'd taken. It seemed she'd bitten off more than she could chew - both figuratively and literally. That was the trouble when she got too competitive. Much to her humiliation, her blush returned as she finished with a full mouth.
Oh well; it wasn't as if she cared what these stallions thought of her anyway as long as they respected her as one of them. ...Right? But the shiver that crept down her spine claimed otherwise when she caught sight of Ink licking his lips before winking at her. Still red in the face, she shook her head, smiling, and tried to swallow the huge lump in her throat. If said lump had been caused by the food or feelings, she had no clue.
Forest frowned slightly at the orange unicorn's mocking of Shadow Fire, but she chose not to intervene. It hadn't worked so well the last time she had tried to defend another pony, after all. Besides, she still didn't know just who this orange unicorn was.
"Oh, Basilisk?" she asked. "That's the female version of a Cockatrice, right? I find them in the Everfree Forest sometimes. I...didn't know they were edible." She tried to keep up a polite smile. The idea of eating meat was a bit unappetizing to her, but who was she to criticize other ponies' choice of diet?
As a pony who defended herself with a bow and arrows against other beasts in the forest, she was well aware of the balance between life and death, regardless of whether it was among plants or animals. It was better for something to eat the meat of her kills rather than let it go to waste, right? Not that she herself entertained the thought, but said meat was good for distracting other, more dangerous predators in the forest that she didn't dare try to take on by herself.
Wait - where was Shadow Fire going? He'd left without a word; hardly a sigh. Was he upset by Cobalt's mockery, or maybe that some of them hadn't tried tasting the crystal he'd created? Perhaps it was something else, or a combination of things. Whatever the case, the others seemed too occupied with their own conversations to notice. As much as Forest would have liked to mediate the talk that seemed to be sparking friction between Cobalt and Ink, she guessed her intervention would only, yet again, make matters worse. Besides, they were big boys, right? They could sort things out peacefully on their own.
Shadow Fire, on the other hoof, might have really had his feelings hurt. Politely excusing herself from the table, Forest slipped away to follow after the purple pegasus, curious as to where he was going and why.

Kori casts his eyes to the ground and sighs, "When I was younger... I had very little to no control of my magic... I mean once I got sick and every time I sneezed my Father had to duck to avoid getting frozen" He chuckles slightly at the memory of the large bull moving so fast, "But I found that being cold as you put it only made my magic the ruler of my life and not me.... So I started to play with it instead and I found that using it for fun and happier things changed they way it comes out... My emotions are directly linked to the appearance and control of my magic... 'Fun is your friend Fear is your enemy'..." He looks up at Techno, "But of course.... If one WERE to get me mad.... Granted not the easiest feat in the world but should it happen.... Yeah... It is NOT a pretty picture..."

Techno Tunes listened attentively, his ears perked and alert as he took in each word and nodded in acknowledgment. He raised a brow at one point, looking somewhat confused about something. "Why you said you found out being cold made your magic the ruler of your life, what do you mean?" he asked. "Did your emotions affect your magic?"
The unicorn seemed to explain more about the tie between his emotions and his magic, but Tunes still seemed a little lost. "What happened when you acted emotionally withdrawn and cold? How did that make your magic rule your life?"

The yawn that escaped Inkbrand's mouth hadn't been intentionally meant, really. It was just the good food and full belly starting to act up - something about stuffing one's fact to the brim made most ponies feel drowsy afterwards. But hey, if it had the added effect of showing the orange unicorn how little he cared for the sudden lecture, then Inkbrand wasn't going to complain.
"Funny, didn't know 'second-best' and 'best' were even grounds," the grey stallion commented blandly when Cobalt finally shut his bucking trap for all of one second. And that's all it had sounded like to him, some second-rate trying to pretend he was Celestia's greatest student when, clearly, he was not. Every pony knew Princess Twilight Sparkle's name, who the buck knew of a Cobalt Lightning?
Inkbrand returned to resting his elbow on the table and his head on one hoof, a bored expression settling on his face as Cobalt continued his speech on…buck, what the buck was he talking about now? Star Axle? Yet another attempt to make himself look larger than life if Inkbrand had to guess - bring up some obscure subject matter that he had experience in and try to make everypony around him feel stupid. It was, in fact, a trick many tattoo artists used…or rather, any sales pony used in some form. If a customer was hesitating or unsure, using large or unknown words usually pushed them over the edge. Ponies especially hesitant to get an inking often needed that extra push, and talking about the specialized brushes and inks and techniques he employed had been his own saving grace once or twice.
If Inkbrand had had any sort of interest in the academics, it might have worked. But seeing how he'd never gotten past the most basic of education as a foal…
"Golly gee no, I don't know what that is," he said as innocently as he could muster, even as another yawn fought its way to escape his mouth. "Clearly, the more useful pony is the one that knows the theory behind spells than the pony that can actually cast them." Inkbrand turned to share an eye roll with Forest Frolic, only the abruptly realize that she wasn't there. A quick inspection of his other side revealed that Shadow Fire wasn't there either, and another annoyed spark etched up his spine. Was he off brooding again? Probably. Damn. Inkbrand really hadn't known the Pegasus for all that long, but if he was going to be this much of a downer -
In fact, now that Inkbrand wasn't so focused on the b*****d upstart in front of him, he could he snippets of the blue unicorn sharing some tragic tail. Or at least it sounded tragic, because even though he couldn't hear all the words, Inkbrand felt he could hear all the great bucking pauses in his talking, as if each sentence was a bucking effort to get out.
'Urgh.'
No point sticking around then, with depression on the left and a figurative four-eyes in front. With little ceremony or fanfare, Inkbrand grabbed the two last tarts from the tray and stuffed them down in quick succession, again wiping his mouth with one hoof as he pushed away from the table. "I think that's enough Canterlot elitism for me today, thanks. I'm sure I'll have plenty chances to return the favor," he announced to no pony in particular, though he pinpointed Cobalt with his sharp golden gaze and lopsided tilt of his lips. "Look forward to it." With a dismissive flip of his tail, Inkbrand was heading away from the banquet table and out the door, shooting a sly smirk at the Pegasus guard giving him a suspicious glare from under her helmet as he passed by.
It wasn't until he was out in the hallway that his smirk transformed into a full blown smile.
Buck, this was fun. Sure, he had to deal with elitist little shits like Cobalt, but after nearly a year of Ponyville brand niceness and neighborly intent and bucking six hundred some Apple relatives trying to kill him with real southwestern friendliness and homeliness -
Well.
Suffice to say, this was a welcomed changed of pace. Not that Ponyville didn't have its own merits, Inkbrand thought, thinking of a hazy night alongside the creek bed with a certain white unicorn.
…No. Definitely had its merits.
Good mood inexplicably dampened somewhat, Inkbrand trot down the hallway with a scowl, head too full of thoughts and memories to now sleep off the fantastic feast he'd just had. Without any real destination, he ended up wandering into the garden area, eyeing the splendid displays or botany with a disinterested eye. Wandering around in the cool evening air was just a good a plan as any, he supposed.

"Who's there?" A stern voice demanded.
As Inkbrand wandered the gardens, a rustle from a rosebush he passed signaled the presence of someone else. That someone quickly made themselves known as a dark figures stepped out onto the perfectly manicured lawn.
"Oh. It's just you." A pair of bright red eyes regarded the gray pony as the dark purple unicorn spoke. "What are you doing out here? It's getting late. Shouldn't you be headed to bed?"
