It was her reaction to mis-hearing the words that caused Delilah to reach over and grab onto Hannah's shoulders. "Hannah, breathe please. You are okay. I am okay. Nothing is coming after us." Delilah's voice was calm, controlled, and level. "The house is not going to eat us. This is just a normal old house in disrepair. I promise, everything will be alright." Locking eyes with her friend, Delilah started to take slow, deep breaths of her own to have Hannah mimic. After the third one, she exhaled out her mouth and directed the girl towards an old chair that was covered in dust. "Here, sit and breathe for a moment. I gotcha."

It took little persuasion on Delilah's part to coax Hannah into taking a seat. Pulling her knees in close she rested her forehead on them and closed her eyes. "I'm sorry, I.. I didn't mean to freak out like that. I-I just... I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you. Fighting at night, all the while trying to live a normal life during the day; I just... My magic has terrifying limitations and aside from little things, I don't know if I could save you if something happened in here or anywhere for that matter."

Kneeling down in front of the chair, Delilah placed both of her hands onto Hannah's feet and leaned her head onto the girls knees. For a moment, she let the two of them remain in silence, just breathing in the old air and claiming their nerves before she spoke. "Hannah, please listen to me." Delilah's voice was soft, soothing. What most might even call like the comfort of their mother as a child. "You need to stop. Thoughts like this are going to destroy you." Delilah's hand reached up and ran through that long, purple hair. "I won't tell you everything is going to be alright because honestly, I don't know if it is. This thing isn't something you and I can control and we were both thrown into it with no direction. What I can tell you is this. You need to stop blaming yourself for not being strong enough." Delilah reached down and lifted Hannah's face up by the chin. "No one is ever strong enough. The moment you think you are is the moment you try to become God. You already do more than anyone could ever ask but you cannot say everyone. Some people do not want to be saved. Others..." Delilah stopped and allowed a warm smile on her face. "You know every night that I don't know where you are, I worry. I worry someone is going to either try and take advantage of that wonderful heart of yours or that something will happen that you will shut down. Hannah, you have personally been through so much. I could not live if you gave up the will to personally fight...." A tear rolled down her right cheek as her lips trembled.

Blue eyes, rimmed red with unshed tears looked up into Delilah's eyes; a sight that made Hannah's heart ache. Ashamed of her own insecurities and fears, Hannah blinked away her blurred vision and let the salty trail run down her pale cheeks onto her jeans. "I never meant to worry you." her voice came only slightly above a whisper "I just want to get stronger so i can help protect you better. I honestly don't know what I'd do if something happened. It's the reason I power up, I just want to help. That's all..."Drawing in a deep breath Hannah reached out to wipe her friends tears away and in the moment of silence a soft mew came from down the hall to their left. Turning her head slowly Hannah spotted two little brown triangles peeking out from behind a broken piece of exposed drywall. "Delilah" she breathed her friends name quietly nodding her head in the direction of the tiny animal.

Delilah's own eyes were turning read as she listened. She didn't know if she should feel honored Hannah wanted to do that or hurt that it was their friendship driving this girl into a dangerous position. "That's always like you isn't it." Delilah finally smiled as she hung her head. "Everyone else over you. That big heart is going to get you one day." Delilah slowly lifted her head. "What can I do to help you stop beating yourself up?"
Just as she spoke, Hannah's voice made her turn in the direction the girl was looking at. Smiling as she rocked back on her heels and stood up, Delilah made her way slowly towards the hole in the wall. "It's alright little one. We are hear to help." She whispered looking down towards the source of the ears. Reaching a hand back towards him, Delilah waited until the cat gave the okay that she knew they were friends. A simple head bump to her hand allowed Delilah to reach down with the other one and pick up a young feline. "Well, here is the source of all the trouble." She smiled, turning back to Hannah.

Promise not to leave me she mentally answered as she watched her raven haired friend stand up and approach the mewing kitten. To see her friend react so tenderly, so motherly, to one so young brought a smile to Hannah's face. Cradled so carefully in Delilah's arms, the periwinkle haired girl rose to her feet, wiped her tears upon her sleeve, and walked over to the two. Slowly, so ever slowly she lifted her hand up to the little one as to not startle it any more than the fallen board had likely done. Soft sounds of playful purring greeted her ears as the kitten bumped her nose against Hannah's knuckle a form of greeting it seemed. "What do you say we get out of here?" she asked with a quiet yet friendly voice, a question directed at the two in front of her.

Delilah was also smiling as she felt the kitten begin to purr in her arms. The irony of a bird saving a cat though was not lost on her as a faint chuckle passed through her smiling lips. "I could not agree with you. Let's get this one something to eat or to a shelter and hope he's microchip. I am sure someone wants their kitten back." She leaned down and nuzzled the baby on the top of its head.
"And then we need to get you some hot tea."

Hannah nodded her head and wiped the tear stains from her cheek. It took a little bit of effort but after stroking the edge of the kitten’s ears and listening to its soft purr she finally managed a small smile. So precious “what are we going to do with you?” she asked aloud; though the question was spoken to the kitten she had meant the inquiry for Delilah. Turning on her heel to head towards the door, Hannah listened for her friends reply. After all the trouble they had went through to get the little one out of here it would be a shame to take it to a shelter, although at the very least it would be wise to make sure it wasn’t chipped. Even so, she had to admit, there was a part of her that hoped that the kitten did not belong to someone and that one of them would be able to keep it.

Seeing Hannah with a smile on her face was a relief to Delilah. After all, this had just been a walk and before she knew it, the girl had broken down. What was she dealing with that was causing such a melt down?
As Delilah watched her friend walk back to the door, she raised the kitten closer and whispered to it. "We will just have to wait for her to come to us about it, won't we?" Delilah cooed as the kitten looked up at her and batted at Delilah's nose. The reaction caused her to lean back.
"Hannah, I think he or she would enjoy playing with your hair. My nose seems to have just gotten too much attention." Chuckling as she walked after her friend, she had to wonder how long it would take for Hannah to open up. The girl needed a pet....
