Seriously, Veronica? Great way to put your foot in your mouth.
"Sorry..." She said wincing when he explained the reason he didn't want to go by Robin. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, don't you think it is odd I am living with my Dad's lawyer instead of my biological mother? I mean to give that sort of option in the will is a bit weird, right? Truth is I haven't seen the woman for like twelve years and she divorced my father and gave full legal custody of me to Dad essentially by letter. Hell, I never actually saw her until after Dad's death..."
She forced a smile, "And that is the story behind the hair color change, by the way: I inherited quite a few physical traits of my mother including her hair color... I was tired of hearing how much I looked like her and how I had the same "pretty blonde hair" from her new family or whatever... as long as she's in town I'm keeping the color." She let out a laugh, "Petty, I suppose. Anyways, forgiveness is healthier than hate, but who am I to talk I dyed my hair because I wanted to look less like someone who does feel guilty about her actions-or guilty enough to argue with Carl about custody until Carl went all lawyer on her and told her 'she better have a whole lot of money to waste on a pretty big gamble, because she would need a pretty good lawyer to beat him and who he intended to hire'."
She let out a laugh and took his book list from him and shook her head at the list, "Yeah, well if you ever need a shoulder to cry on when the stress gets to you, you can come see me. Or I can pitch a few balls to you and you can relieve your stress that way... you said you might take me up on learning baseball, right?"
"And, the problem with Alex is you missed your window of opportunity to slap her back, which if you did with reasonable force would have been appropriate all things given-not that I'm condoning violence," Veronica added holding up a finger before her blue eyes glanced up from the list at him, "And, I'm not the best at understanding girls, granted, but I mean Alex always struck me as a lot like me-which is probably why I never was her biggest fan-but she's selfish and she is used to being the pretty girl and the star. And most girls, anyways, feel the need to be doted on by their boyfriends. Most girls would have been irritated with you not focusing on her as much."
"Now, that's where you have to consider where I said I always felt Alex was a little like me personality wise-we already know I broke someone's nose as a kid so it isn't like I am a complete pacifist," She said with a shrug. "Also, you both were second years... if you remember correctly I did a lot of things in my second year that I am not proud of that was really immature and wrong of me-maybe she was going through a phase. Maybe she needs to just grow up, more."
Letting out a sigh, Veronica added, "And quite frankly that whole thing was doomed from the beginning or at least as early as you two started it. Maybe, she'll grow out of the selfishness as I learned to apologize for my mistakes last year. Who knows, I'm not psychic? And your stuck on it because you were stuck on her since like day one because she's the typical pretty, hot girl. Pretty dark straight hair, pretty eyes, smooth and flawless skin, feminine with a touch of toughness, gentle looking... Anyways, most people don't just get over break-ups or being turned down in a day or two. Next time go for a Hufflepuff, or someone with some of those qualities, you'll be better off," she added with a laugh. "I mean usually two Gryffindors hooking up is like hooking up dynamite with a matchstick... most of us do have temper problems to one degree or another, after all."
"I hope that sort of makes sense," She said, heading to the bookshelves, "Anyways, do you prefer to save money by buying used or do you only want new textbooks?"

He looked at her, noticing her sudden change of tone when he explained to her why he wasn't called Robin...or at least, why he didn't want to be called that. He hated the name...because it brought up memories that he shouldn't be reminded of...memories that he hates. He listened to her speak, and upon hearing her talk about her mom, he shrugged. At least the girl knew who her mom was...and why she looked like she did. He has no idea who his parents are, or even if his mother is alive. He knew his dad was, because he had been getting randomly placed messages from him...but he didn't understand how they could be so well placed...at least, without knowing he was there.
"I still do like this hair color better, but that's just me," he added, smiling a bit at her, hoping to get back to the good time he was having before his real name was brought up. He listened to what she had to say, keeping a silence for quite some time. He would just answer her in full after she was finished, because the girl would not shut up. She just kept talking and as soon as he thought she was done, he would start to open his mouth, but she would answer quicker than he could start. So he sat back and listened.
"Okay, one, I don't need to cry about anything. I got over it awhile ago. I'm just telling you so you to not call me that name. It'll probably bring the memories back. And two...maybe...I could imagine hitting something with a bat to get over stress. It sounds like fun. Three...I don't hit girls...it is a lose-lose situation. Four, she really does need to grow up...but who knows; some dude that doesn't care about anything like grades...sports...and everything else for that matter could come get her. But I assure her and everyone other girl on this planet for that matter...that can't and will not be me. I want a future. And lastly...I definitely prefer to save money...so used it is!" he finished answering everything she had to say before. He smiled at her a bit, giving her a thumbs up. She had talked a lot, but she would realize it soon enough. He didn't mind it though, mainly because it was Ronna...one of the only people he gave a s*** about.

I need to talk less...
"Why do you like the hair color better, anyways? Don't they say men prefer blondes?" She said raising a brow. "Besides, dying my hair permanently seems like lying... it would be like if I wore make-up all the time to cover my freckles or something. And, friends don't have the right to make my fashion choices for me." She smiled and stuck out her tongue at him before she began flipping through various used text books on his list looking for the one in the best condition.
"And I didn't mean crying about... well you know," She said not wanting to bring up his family anymore, obviously it bothered him. "You know I could also teach you some basic boxing techniques too... and I was actually talking about crying about missing out on having such a pretty, albeit bad mannered, girlfriend. And, that policy about not hitting girls is sexist. I mean it is stupid to think that a girl can't pack a punch, besides you can get your arse handed to yourself if you stick to that all your life. I mean in the right situation I wouldn't feel bad about hitting a guy, why should you feel bad hitting a girl? And like I said if you responded with reasonable force it would be sort of justified..."
"Anyways, don't you know the princess-pretty type will always get a guy in the end? I'm sure Alex will find some sucker eventually. Some people are shallow and you were shallow to start dating her- I mean you are kind of guilty in not seeing her faults in the first place," She smiled and tapped him in the head with one of the textbooks from his list, "I mean you overlooked her faults because of what? An innocent smile and pretty brown eyes... that is kind of shallow too."

"I don't know...I just like it better. And no, not all men prefer blonde. I tend to go towards brunettes. It depends on the man I guess. And it is fine. You look great either way," he said to her, smiling a bit. He held his one thumb out, smiling. He really liked hanging out with Ronna because he just always felt comfortable. She was always an awesome person to be with. It almost made him completely forget the whole conversation before, just because he didn't want to be all gloomy and what not around the girl. "Hey, I'm just trying to help out...don't mind me..." he said to her.
"Hey, come on Ronna...it isn't as sexist as you think it is. It is a lose-lose situation in the man world. You don't hit her and she gets you...oh you got beat up by a girl. But if you hit her back...oh you hit a girl. Come on, that is true and nothing will ever change that unfortunately," he said, hoping to reveal the truth to her without challenging her. He didn't want to get into an argument with her. He just wanted to make sure she knew that it most definitely was a lose-lose situation, despite how sexist the thought of it was. "And I don't know Ronna, I just don't want to bring physicality into a relationship like that. Not comfortable doing that..."
"And I know they always do...unfortunately. I always envisioned myself with that type of girl, but quite frankly, I don't think I could handle it. I mean, if they are all like my previous...then I most definitely can't, he said to her, casually shrugging the image of Alex that had been floating in his head. He had to stop thinking about her altogether, or it was going to seriously become a problem. "And I didn't overlook the faults, but Ronna...to be honest, she seemed much more genuine at the start. She always talked to me...she always smiled at me...she kept everything nice. And then that...trust me...I didn't overlook the faults, but I thought the good outweighed the bad and that was obviously a mistake," he said to her, still shrugging his shoulders. He seemed to be doing that quite a bit today. It just was sort of a shoulder shrug kind of day.

Lose-lose situation... pah.
"Oh, I know you tend to go towards brunettes," Veronica said with a smile. "Besides, I did this more out of irritation than anything... like I said I'm going back to my natural color before next school year starts." She added the last line about her irritation being the reason for the hair change with a slight scowl as she flipped through another used book.
"And just because it is a 'lose-lose' situation in 'the man world' doesn't mean the principle isn't sexist. Besides, if I do end up taking a career as a hit-wizard or something like that like I am considering, I really don't think some male criminal is going to hold back just because I'm female," She added. "But, that's a completely different situation. Anyways, you did the right thing in not retaliating... even if logically it would be justified if you look at it from a revenge or retaliation point of view."
She sighed as he spoke about how he envisioned himself with the 'princess-pretty type' as she had called it. Rolling her eyes she said jokingly before turning more serious, "And guys wanting that type of girl is exactly why I can't get a date... but, seriously, just because someone puts on a mask it doesn't suddenly change their personality. Anyways, I could have told you from the start that you two weren't going to work out, I mean honestly I couldn't say I was exactly surprised when I heard you two broke up. I didn't actually think you would invoke enough of her wrath to be slapped by her, though."
"And if you want your princess so bad look at it this way, there were some that were good but there was also the wicked princesses too," She said handing over several textbooks that were used but in good condition. Nodding at his list which she also handed over to him she said with a small smile, "Besides with this course load, I'm pretty sure your new girlfriend should be homework."

"Hey, it just happens like that. I seriously don't have a preference. Just seems like the girls I end up flirting with are brunette. I don't know why, it just happens like that," he told her, shrugging his shoulders again. He really didn't think he had a preference on physical attributes of a girl...but then again...he always found himself intoxicated by Alex's dark...chocolate brown...eyes. But as soon as the thought of her eyes came into mind, he shook it away, irritated that all he could think of now was her eyes. He hated himself for bringing the image into his head again...just when he thought he had gotten over it. But hey, he had to let bygones be bygones and had to start looking to his future...something Alex didn't seem to understand about.
"I didn't say it was not completely sexist. I said it isn't as much as you think. And yes...Ronna...compare me to a criminal why don't you," he said to her, hearing her finish the rest of what she had to say. "Noooooo wayyyyyy...I didn't know that," he said sarcastically to it being a completely different situation. He smiled at her though and started laughing a bit, mainly because it wasn't him being mean, just him being his natural self around a girl that he knew would retaliate to it. Or at least, flash a joke back at him. That's the biggest part of Ronna that he loved. She didn't take much to offense whenever he said anything, unlike Alex.
"Ronna...seriously...you can't get a date because you won't ask anyone. My da' always told me...you ask ten girls....guaranteed three say yes. I mean, I don't know if that applies for women, but my da' made it work when he was younger. My adopted mom was one of the three," he said to Ronna, laughing a bit then looking at the books she was giving him. He watched as they all blurred past, not really catching any of the titles. He hadn't memorized what he was taking yet, but he would get it by school time.
"And I said I always envisioned myself with a girl like that, but now, quite frankly...I think I need a girl that's an athlete. They tend to understand the whole time management thing," he told her, laughing. He just held the textbooks that she was giving him, hoping to get a beat on the classes he was taking.

An athlete? Wasn't Alex technically on the quidditch team, wouldn't that make her an athlete?
"Hey, look here munchkin, haven't you heard of respecting your elders?" She said in response to his sarcastic 'Nooooo wayyyy' and smiled. Truth be told Theo wasn't that much shorter than her and she also had the advantage of wearing boots that added at least an inch and a half to her now natural 5'7". "Anyways, I was just saying chivalry doesn't exist all the time in the real world and you can't all the time apply typical gender roles to things. Besides, I probably think weird because I grew up pretty much around guys only-at least adult wise. And a lot of them stressed the whole it isn't gender but skills that is important."
She sighed and shook her head as she pulled out her own supply list and noticed that she really didn't need any new books but one for the Ghost and Ghoul Studies class she had signed up for and would have to take the first and second class this year. "Honestly, I think dating is the last thing on my mind," She answered. "Besides, I'm going to focus on my studies and keep busy that way. And, who knows maybe Hell will freeze over and my apology to the entire quidditch team for second year was actually heard out. They'll need more beaters this year regardless and unless there happens to be a real hot-shot one or two first years who are beaters or someone else shows up I have decent odds on getting on the team-at least as a reserve-and if none of those unexpected things happen they'll at least put me on reserves unless there really is a grudge against me and Jacob breaks his word. Either way I should know this year how people stand."
She shrugged and then added, "Oh yeah, you probably don't want to hear about quidditch anyways. Sorry. But, you know it isn't just athletes who have to understand the time management thing. For example, there are people who take like every elective and are in a couple clubs too, I'd say they would have to be good at time management, too, even if they aren't an athlete."
Letting out a sigh she picked up a new textbook for Ghost and Ghoul Studies for herself and said, "If I missed anything I can always stop back. Carl's flat is actually really close. Ready for check out? Is there anything else you need to stop or want to stop?"

"RONNA! If you say you are my elder one more time. It is one year...and not even...because you are a young fourth year. Isn't your birthday in June? Wouldn't that make you my age right now," he asked her, skeptically. He smiled at her a bit when he thought of his comeback. "But I mean, you could be a very old fourth year too who didn't quite meet the cut off," he said, coming up with the second scenario. It was only the second week of June; so her birthday had not come yet. "And that is true, but I guess you can call me Mr. Chivalry." He finished, looking at all the books she was pulling out of the bookcase for herself. He saw that she had taken the first year and second year book for Ghost and Ghoul studies, which just made him snicker. She was going to have an intense work load this time around. And so was he.
"Eh...I don't give two s***s about our Quidditch Team quite honestly. I don't think I want to ever see another game again. I'll go if you are in it, but I'm not going if I don't have to. The sport doesn't require much athletic ability at all, which is where my problem is. The beater really is the only thing that requires any kind of athletic ability and endurance. The broom does everything. I'd like to see some of those kids challenge me in a sport that requires them to run around on their two feet. Surely they'd lose," he said spitefully, not even giving the bashing of Quidditch a second thought. He hated the sport and did not respect it at all. The worst thing they have to deal with is the bludger. And he wasn't going to get himself brutally hurt where he could miss a step in football. Besides, how the schools play, it is pretty much centralized around one person, and that is the seeker. Your team pretty much won if the seeker caught the snitch. Quidditch isn't a team sport...it is an individual one. Where, unless the other team's chasers were complete legends that scored 160 points before the other team could score 10, the seeker could win a game. Just think, a team could be leading one-hundred forty to zero and still lose. That's not a sport...that's an individual performance. That is not what Theo was good at. Theo was good at passing, shooting, finding his teammates opportunities. In football, Theo was an extremely unselfish player, whom is often compared to that of the late Iniesta mixed with the early Christiano Ronaldo who are both Football legends, Ronaldo being his idol and whom he modeled his game after.
"And no one but an Athlete knows MY workload. My workload doesn't just consist of electives, clubs, and just anything dealing with grades in general, but also working on my game at all possible moments. I have to keep at a high level as well as acing my classes," he said to her, hoping she would understand. It truly was impossible to know what his workload was without living it. It was rigorous. "My workload is honestly worse when I'm home for the summer like this."
He readied himself to leave and as she asked him if he was ready to check out...he nodded. "Yes, I think everything is set." he said to her, smiling, carrying his back up to the owner at the register.

I'm pretty sure he only renumbers I have a June birthday just so when I pull the 'respect your elder' card, he can remind me of how little age difference there is... actually I don't know exactly how many months difference we have in age, it might not be that much...
Veronica frowned when he mentioned her birthday: she hadn't given her birthday much thought consider her father's recent death and all the formalities she had to go through, and then with her mother showing up and the woman's new family... "Hmm... you're right, I do have a June birthday. That would make me the same age as you at the moment, probably... actually my birthday is in mid to late June to tell you the truth. I haven't given my birthday much thought, to tell the truth," She said, her brows furrowing, and she added. "Still, the few months or whatever technically make a difference and still makes me older than you."
"Even if I get on the team don't bother coming on my account," She said, waving a hand distracted. "Quidditch for me is just a way to help contribute to my house, it's not like I am planning on going into anything related to the game."
And when Theo went on about his heavy workload to keep his grades up, clubs, and working on his game, she just let out a sigh. "It isn't like this summer is going smoothly for me," She added more annoyed and bothered sounding then she intended. Taking a deep breath she placed her text books on the counter and said to Theo more gently, "Look, just forget it. Besides, if you dated someone who had just as busy of workload as you probably would never see her. Someone understanding of your workload or supportive of your workload would be fine, I would think. Then again, you have more experience dating than I do, so maybe I shouldn't be giving advice." She paid for her books and forced a small smile and stepped aside for Theo to check out with his stack of books.

Theo listened to her speak, rolling his eyes accordingly. She wasn't that much older than him and he absolutely hated the 'I am older' routine that she constantly plays on him. One day, she will respect him as an equal. He didn't know when, but sooner or later she would understand that the few months that she was older than him didn't matter. It made him no less or no more mature. But he would let her learn that on her own. He didn't know how she would, but he just knew it was going to happen.
"No, if you are playing, I am going to be there. I'm not letting you tell me otherwise," he said to her, not really knowing what else to say about that matter, but then she started to talk about her summer, which he knew wasn't the best for her. He didn't want to linger on that topic for any longer; so he let that one go. "And I'm done talking about dating. I just got out of a sour relationship. I really shouldn't be looking for another for awhile. I need to have my priorities straight and that probably shouldn't even be on the list," he said to her, shrugging his shoulder. He started to check out his books and awaited to hear the price. Upon hearing the price, he sighed and paid the final amount. It was not that much, but he always hated spending too much money. Then again...their day just started; so he really should get ready to spend some more.

Veronica crossed her arms around the textbooks she had just bought and raised a brow as Theo said first he would show up to the games if she was playing and that he was done talking about dating and that he needed to get his priorities straight. "Theo," sighed Veronica, "you know you can't stop me from telling you whatever I want, just like I can't stop you from doing what you want in regards to that. Besides, you probably want to show up if I am playing just to see if I break my nose again or end up covered in blood and bruises like I did last year in try-outs."
She shook her head and said after he paid for his books, "Didn't you forget, I already found you a new girlfriend? Her name is Homework and she is an obsessive and demanding mistress." She gave Theo a small smile and said, "Alright, we've got our textbooks. What is next on your list? Like I said, I actually live not that far from Diagon Alley, technically, now, so I can go back to get things a lot easier than you can. Oh! And if you do realize you forgot something you could always e-mail me or send me post when you are in Germany."
She smiled, helpfully, and with a wave thanked the shopkeeper before saying, "Anyways, where's next for you?"

❝Timothy walked into the bookstore with a small smile on his face. He was once again left alone to traipse through Diagon Alley which he thinks is a major improvement in his Mum's confidence since when Tanya was his age she was never really by herself. There had been times where she could wander when their mother was busy with him but she was never given the same amount of freedom he has. Then again, he wasn't as big a trouble maker as his older sister either so he did have that working for him. And honestly he really didn't go anywhere besides here, Occulus, and Florean's ice cream shoppe. A gurgle and squeaky sound came from his stomach as he thought of a sweet treat and gave himself a promise to go and finally try one of those ice cream sodas after he found what he was looking for. He had borrowed a gigantic book from his sister called The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and after reading it cover to cover he was no obsessed with Science Fiction and of course Douglas Adams. After asking her what was next she pointed him towards H.G. Wells and War of the Worlds as well as another work by Adams called Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. He had already found the first book part of his Mum's library so he decided to scope out the second here. Timothy gave a friendly wave to the woman who owned the store and a smile just as he did every time he came in and went off in search of the "W" section. He saw the sign reading that there was a summer sale and while his attention was off his intended direction he tripped over one of his shoelaces and landed smack dab into a display of books much to his mortification.❞

Seymour Benjamin Ryans [UNSORTED]
Wand: Curupay Wood with a Pixie Wing Core, Pliable and Bent Blood: three-quarters magical Upcoming 1st Year
Seymour Benjamin Ryans like usual had been put to work helping his Mum out in the shop. If she wasn't trying to make him do some stupid homework of some sort, she would put him to work helping shelve books and what not. It wasn't that hard to tell the truth. As the son of Casey and Edwin Ryans was carrying Charm Your Own Cheese-which someone had seemed to have abandoned in with children's books (probably realizing how ridiculously boring a book on creating cheese would be)-back to its proper place he heard a large bang and witnessed a cluttering of the books on display for first year Hogwarts students that him Mum had him working on for at least an hour that morning to set up. He wasn't even upset the display was now a scattering of books on the floor because someone had run into it, to him the chaos was actually fairly funny and he couldn't help but laugh at the mess that was made.
However, he caught sight of his mother's brown eyes narrowed at him and she snapped quickly at him: "Seymour Benjamin Ryans! Cállate y actuar a su edad! ¿Está bien?"
Her sharp tone and that look she gave him was enough to silence his chuckles and he sighed, setting the book he was carrying down randomly on the shelf and approached Timothy. "Hey, are you alright? Sorry, I wasn't laughing at you..." Seymour Ryans said with an apologetic smile and holding out a hand.
Translation Note: "...Shut up and act your age! Is he okay?"
My silence was the silence, silence of rocks, My silence, it was the silence of the stones, Rocks and stones, Rocks, stones and trees; Of the landscapes Full of ups and downs.
❝Timothy's embarrassment went up a few notches as few of the scarce people in the store stared at him and he even heard laughter coming from the other side of the store. Just as he was rolling over to get up he heard a woman's sharp words spoken in a different language before a hand was presented in front of his face while the person the hand was attached to apologized. He gave the boy, for he couldn't have been any older than he was, an easy grin and nod before he slipped his hand into the other's and hoisted himself off. When he was steady on his feet he could see the devastation he had caused to the display, and school books at that! His hands began to sign frantically about how sorry he was and that he'd help fix it when he remembered that not everyone knew the language like his Mum, sister, and even to a small extent Mr. Gearvin. That thought in mind, Timothy dug into his drawbag backpack and pulled out his small notebook and pen and began to write before turning it around. "It's ok! I'm really sorry about the display! I'll help put everything back in place, I promise!"❞
