Jacques entered her chambers, a friendly smile fixed on his face. "Good morning," he greeted Mikari.

From a quick look at her, he could tell she hadn't been getting enough sleep. He had noticed before today but had ignored it. He was going to again choose to ignore it. Jacques knew she really had no place to go back to and he could offer her a kingdom.

"You've been couped up here in this castle for a while. I thought it might please you to venture out into the world. I've been meaning to give you a tour of the kingdom." Jacques bowed slightly and held out a hand to Mikari, all his hidden intentions buried deep to stay unknown.

Mikari held in a sigh. "I suppose it would be quite nice to get outside." She said, taking his hand reluctantly. She hated the sunlight on her fair skin, and wished she had a parasol so she wouldn't get burned. She was tired, and knew he could see it. Why he hadn't said anything was unknown to her.

Jacques bowed, smiling brightly, "I will let you ready for the day out. I will call for a carriage to be readied."

Jacques left the room and had to fight to hide a frown. He could sense he uneasiness and he wondered how he would fix that. As he was puzzling over the situation, he smirked internally. It had been a while since anything was a challenge to him.

Mikari got ready in light colored clothing to reflect the sun. She dug through her things to find a white lace parasol to protect her skin. She was lucky to have it with her. She stepped out into the hall once she was ready, looking for the man she dreaded marrying.

Jacques met Mikari outside her room, still wearing a large, friendly smile that charmed almost everyone. He held out an arm to her, asking, "Are you ready?"

The carriage was ready and waiting at the palace gates. Jacques planned for a pleasant day in his kingdom, introducing her to all his loyal subjects. And then they would stop for a picnic somewhere. He smirked internally.

Mikari nodded silently. She let him lead her outside, putting up her parasol to block the sun. It hurt her eyes and she felt overly warm when they were outside. The creme and gold sundress she had chosen was slightly uncomfortable, and the matching sandals weren't what she was used to. She hated outings and people. It would be a long, boring, and torturous day. She thought about her conversation with the man in the dark last night. She wanted to get to know him. She wanted to help him. But she knew better. Her magic would be the death of her here in this foreign place. She kept her eyes averted from the man who she would have to marry. Even being near him made her uncomfortable.

Jacques kept his pleasant smile in place but he could feel her discomfort. So far, he had pretended to have a blind eye to Mikari's discomfort. She didn't hide it very well and she kept to herself mostly. The servants around her were wary of her. She was a foreigner from a country that every one had only heard rumors about, whispers of magic and darkness. They had been relieved when they had lain eyes upon her but that quickly changed when she kept to her lonesome. Nothing indicated that she could use magic or was dark or dangerous but the people of the palace were not used outsiders.

Jaqcues held a hand out to her to help her into the carriage.

"I hope you can learn to love this kingdom as I do." he said pleasantly.

Mikari said nothing. She had nothing to say. Being alone here was difficult for her. She had no one to talk to, no one who understood her. It was plain to see that the servants didn't trust her. No one did in this place. Her country was shrouded in mystery, surrounded by rumors of evil and magic. Of course the rumors were true, but Mikari was good. She wanted to use her magic to help people. If only she could use it here. She feared if she didn't use her magic, she would become ill from it like her mother had.

Jacques sat across Mikari in the carriage, smiling pleasantly. He kept his eye on her but beneath the friendly exterior, he was coldly observing her. He knew of her homeland. A long time ago, he had visited that place and had learned much there. But it was not a place he wanted to stay in despite the fact that he fit in there much better than the kingdom he hailed from.

"Are you comfortable?" he asked.

Mikari jumped a bit at the sound of his voice. She had been so absorbed in her thought that she hadn't expected a direct question. She nodded and flashed a small smile to satisfy him. "I am fine. Thank you. It is just taking me longer to adjust then I would have thought." She said in her calmest voice.

Jacques continued to smile at her, paying little attention to the world outside the carriage. Their first destination was not far. It was a small village but it was well off. Jacques had decided not to bring her to the less well-off places of the kingdom that had slowly started to grow since the very beginning of his reign.

Jacques wondered for a moment what he wanted to do with his bride-to-be. His last wife had lived comfortably if a bit distant to him. She was one of his luckier wives. Some had lived in terror of him but not a single person in the castle ever believed he could be anything but a loving husband.

Mikari was doing well to hide her fear of the man across from her. She wished to get away from these high class people in this bright, sparkling kingdom. All her life had been spent as a princess of a dark, poor country that was plagued by black magic. Even though she was light, and hated black magic, she couldn't stand this place. She wanted to see the poor and down trod. She wanted to help them make their lives better. The higher classes meant nothing to her if the poor continued to suffer.

The little town was pleasant and there were enough trees for most of it to be to be shaded. The plan was to bring them closer and closer to the dark forest. It seemed appropriate to introduce her to the place where he had spent so much time and the place the true prince now resided.

"This town is wealthy but there are those that are not so fortunate. I will introduce you to those another day, perhaps." Jacques said, still smiling at her.

Mikari nodded. She did not give him the honor of hearing her voice. She wouldn't speak to this man. In fact she hated him. She would rather be put to death then marry this man. But that was the problem. They were set to be married in three months time. There was no possible way she could get out of this. If she could not find a reason to avoid the marriage then she would be forced into it and eventually have this mans child. That would make her hate herself even more. She tried to silently find a way to get out of the marriage, but her thoughts were empty of anything but the mysterious man from the night before.

The rest of the day was spent in relative silence. Mikari was turning out to be very interesting indeed. Jacques could feel the hate for him and enjoyed it. Twisted though it was, Jacques was very bored of everyone loving him. That was why with many of his past wives, he had let them know his true nature. Some of them had gone mad or others had considered them mad. It was always interesting to watch the situation pan out.

Jacques had spent all day considering whether to share his secret. The approached the dark forest. If he were to tell her, he would have to do it far from any prying ears. He held out his hand to her to help her out of the carriage and informed the driver that they would be taking a small stroll.

Mikari Sighed once they were in the forest. It was where she had felt more at home. This place called to her, and she knew why now. That prince from the night before had been here. She could feel a trace of his presence lingering in the forest. Of course the wizard in front of her also left a large print on this place. She kept her emotionless mask in place as they walked deeper into the forest. She would not show this man anything that would give him power over her.
