"Oh." Ali sighed. Music was complicated. Give him a script and a stage any day. "Okay, so, to the side makes it longer but above makes it shorter." That was silly. Why couldn't whoever standardized musical notation have come up with two different symbols?

"Mhmm." Lance rubbed at Ali's back before sliding his arm around his shoulders and giving him a hug. "I know it sound's complicated. Believe me. I thought the same exact thing... It starts to make sense after a while."

Ali nodded slowly, curling into Lance. "I suppose it'll just take me time. I certainly don't expect to become brilliant in a few hours." He acknowledged. This would never be more than a light hobby, but it was something he could try to learn.

"Hey, you never know. You just might surprise yourself." Lance ran his fingers through the free bits of Ali's hair.
Then he blinked, realizing something...
"Okay. Let me try it like this...Think of the higher and lower notes like your plays. Longer notes for the suspense and any feelings of like sorrow. Where as higher notes will be all the joy and happiness and airy parts of the play."

"Maybe so," Ali shrugged.
Once Lance put it in theater terms, however, his expression changed. "Oh!" That...made a lot of sense. Especially when he considered it in terms of accompanying music, or in terms, he supposed, of a Broadway show. "I...I think I get it."

"Not as confusing now is it?" He gave Ali another hug. "I've got some beginner stuff at home you could try if you wanted. Super simple stuff. I promise."

"Not as confusing when you put it that way," Ali agreed. He hugged Lance back. "I...yeah, I'd like to try some of that simpler stuff."
It was definitely always a good time to pick up a new skill.
