"I see..." the unicorn murmured, contemplating something. "Perhaps you can help us with a certain dilemma we're having. Grab your fill of candy and come back over here, will you? We're trying to mend a shredded costume and I have a feeling your knowledge might be of considerable use to us." He paused. "That is, if you don't have anything better to do."

"I can, um... I can definitely try!" Wicked Stitch's ears perked up, and he fluttered his wings a little anxiously. "Let's um... I mean... can I... take a look? I mean... I don't really make clothing but... I can try. The candy isn't going anywhere..." Candy didn't materialize for a few set hours once a year, after all, but the chance to actually help someone, to be useful... that didn't necessarily come along so often.

Noting the pegasus' enthusiasm, Truths allowed himself a small smile. Stitch reminded him a little of Acid in a way; at least when he got over his evident timidity. "Of course. Anything you can do would be appreciated, I'm sure. At the very least, perhaps your unique...appearance might provide a source of much-needed inspiration." It made the unicorn wonder if it wasn't just a coincidence that he was meeting this colt on Hallow's Eve of all nights.
He nodded back toward the bowl of candy on the counter before heading back toward Shrill and Candy Dandy. "You might as well while we're here," he said, referring to the sugary treats. "I don't know how familiar you are with the shop keeper of this place, but she's particularly generous with her sweets - and not just for Halloween, either. If you don't grab something now, chances are that by the time you leave this place, both you and your saddle bags will be so stuffed you might not be able to make it home."
"Besides," he added. "Sugar is a fair source of energy. It might help when we get down to work."

Candy noted the new foal that Truths was taking to. She had never met this one either! My she was falling behind on her knowing of all the foals on Phonyland! They seemed to be getting along, so the phony left them to their own devices until Truths rejoined the group, stitched together foal in tow. "Well hello!" she said, greeting Wicked Stitch. "Welcome to my party! I'm Candy Dandy, the owner!" She smiled sweetly, tilting her head to one side just slightly.

"I..if you say so?" He had to wonder how badly shredded this costume was if he needed to start powering up on candy first, which lead to to the picture of trying to piece it back together from threads. Brr. That he didn't think he could do. "It does look like wonderful candy, b-but are you sure everyphony would be ok with waiting..." He trailed off as Candy Dandy spoke up, ducking his head again. Although warming up to Hard Truths, he still wasn't entirely sure about the others, however friendly seeming. "I'm.... I'm Wicked Stitch. It's a lovely party!"

Normally she would have felt proud of her hat nabbing. It would have made the loss of her costume hardly matter at all, except… "my dads made my costume for me." The words were mumbled and Truths was gone a second later, so she wasn't sure he’d heard. Probably for the best. While he was busy talking to the new guy (was his ear stitched on?), Shrill X stripped the costume off. Carefully placing it on the floor, she inspected the all the rips and tears. She didn't know the first thing about sewing. "Yo, I’m Shrill X," she introduced herself to Wicked Stitch loudly, "and can we start fixing my costume now?"

Observing the exchange between Candy and Stitch with silent approval, he returned his attention to Shrill. Although he wasn't one to shower sympathy or pity on others, he could only guess what that costume had meant to her. He didn't have a father of his own, after all, making her gift from hers seem that much more precious. It was like the colorful lollipop that Acid had so happily carried around with him as a present from his own dad.
"Impatient as ever," he murmured in response to Shrill's curt question. "Stitch, Shrill's costume here is the one that was ripped up. It's not too bad, I'd say, but as I'm not a tailor, I can't do much myself to mend it. At least not without help." He inspected the smaller pieces hanging off from the larger segments by hardly more than a thread. At least when flat on the floor it was easier to see how it had originally fit together and where the seams had to be repaired.
"It was a Big Bad Wolf costume, but we're re-making it zombie style, so I don't think a few obvious novice stitches will look all that bad compared to the original ones. Kind of like a patchwork scarecrow, I suppose." He nodded toward the squeeze bottle of red food coloring. "And we have this for added gore."

"Oh that's... a really interesting fix." Stitch noted, taking a half step back from Shrill X in response to the intensity of her greeting and demand "It... I think we can do it, we just need um, a needle and thread. I...think it might be best if we.. you know... fix the damage first and then... then we can do the food coloring... it'll drip more convincingly..." ...Well that probably sounded weird, but they did want him to help fix it, and tonight was about dressing up... "...It looks like mostly popped stitches and seams. That's good for us." He noted, glancing warily at Shrill X before edging toward the costume, nudging at it gently with one hoof. "The fabric didn't shred mostly, because it was stronger than the thread, so we can do quick fixes now and um..." He had started to get worked up a little, proud of himself for formulating a plan to repair the costume, and then had been overtaken by nerves again. "....So.... I mean.. we can do a quick fix... then it can get an really good fix later. I think... I think it can be saved. Which is nice. It's a nice costume."

The foals seemed to be coming together to fix the costume. It made Candy exceedingly happy to see them working together. She listened to their evaluation of the wolf costume, and nodded along with their musings. "If you need thread and needles, I think I might have a couple in my bedroom." she said, tapping her chin with a hoof. She looked around to make sure the rest of the guests were alright, and then trotted through the kitchen and into the main part of her house. She started rummaging through drawers. "Must be here somewhere..." she mumbled, lifting a stack of papers. She located a couple needles and some thick white thread. She kept them around in case a basket needed repairs. She placed them in a bag, and went back into the shop. "Here ya go!" she said triumphantly. "I think this will help repair the damage!"

This Stitch guy seemed to know what he was talking about and she was pretty sure her costume would be safe in his hoofs. Shrill X gave a decisive nod. "I’ll get us more snacks and drinks." She couldn’t help fix anything, but she could keep them all well supplied with sugar until the job was done. "Hey and... you know, thanks..."

At Stitch's appraisal, Truths nodded in acknowledgement. "That would probably be best," he agreed, though his expression betrayed a hint of amusement upon noticing Stitch's caution around Shrill. It seemed absurd to the unicorn that the pegasus might have been more comfortable around Truths than someone else, even Shrill, but perhaps it had something to do with the fact that she was a filly. Still, the way the other colt's confidence began to shine through when he spoke of a plan, even if just for a minute, was good to see.
"Sounds good enough to me," he stated when Stitch was finished. When Candy volunteered her supplies yet again, Truths felt a great deal of gratitude toward her. Where would they be without a needle and thread? Or materials in general, for that matter?
"Thank you very much, Stitch; Candy. You seem to have just about everything around here, don't you?" he asked the light pink mare with a slight smile. "Then again, I suppose your job means you're particularly skilled with crafts like the Halloween decorations you put up. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised you have the supplies to make just about anything."
With the needles and thread, it was time to set to work. The unicorn attempted to thread the needle, but frowned when his fumbling hooves weren't nimble enough. At last, with an exasperated sigh, he used his magic to accomplish the task before settling down to sew the thing.
Glancing up when Shrill offered to get refreshments, Truths nodded once and waited until she was out of earshot before turning to Stitch. "That's rare for her, you know," he said in a low voice, focusing on the fabric as he seemed to try to figure out where to start. "Thanking someone. I think it's more difficult for her than most phonies. Probably because I feel similar." Lifting his head to meet Stitch's heterochromic eyes, he asked, "So how do we go about this, hmm? Perhaps if you can guide me with where to do this, I can figure it out." Needle in, needle out, right? It seemed simple enough in principle.

"Thank you very much, Ms. Candy!" Stitch sounded almost excited again, giving Shrill X a nervous but enthusiastic smile. "It's alright... It was Truth's idea." And it had been. If it hadn't been for Truth he might have just bolted. "Well... make a knot at the end of the thread first, then start, uh... let's start here..." He pointed his hoof toward a significant rip in one of the seams. "...We're going to start on the inside of the fabric, a little before the actual broken stitches, and try and match the size of the stitches already there so we don't make the costume smaller by accident. There's a little extra fabric to allow for the seam... see? You need to stitch that together again. It doesn't need to be pretty, or invisible right now, just careful and strong. Like um...." His tony dipped back into the quiet and embarrassed as he waved a hoof toward his own stitches. "...Like these."

Nodding at the instructions he was given, Truths did as he was told and made a knot at the end of the thread to keep it from slipping through the needle eye entirely. He moved to pierce the needle where Stitch had suggested they start.
Once the pegasus began to warn him about the size of the stitches and allowing extra fabric for the seam, however, he started to get a little anxious. His gaze followed Stitch's indication to his own stitches and he blinked.
"...How about you try first?" he suggested, holding out the needle to the other colt. "If neither of us have done this before, then I can't imagine it would make much difference, but you certainly seem to have a better idea of what you're doing than I do." Besides, if it was the pegasus' stitches they needed to study for inspiration, he figured it'd be easier and less awkward for him to look at himself rather than have Truths stare at him for the duration of the sewing.

"O-ok! I'm sorry, I didn't..." He'd watched that little flicker of doubt appear in Truth's expression and he felt horrible for causing it. The only reason he knew what he did was from comparing his own stitches to those on fabric, and examining how the fabric went together. "H-hey, a-anything I do wrong will make yours look that much better right?" He joked, though admittedly a little jealous of the dexterity offered by unicorn magic. Never the less, he took the needle carefully, took a deep anxious breath and tried to imitate what he'd seen of other peoples work with the stitches.

Candy stood over the foals, making sure no one stuck themselves with the needle. She turned to Shrill X and smiled. "Isn't this great!? Your friends are turning a bad into a good!" Ruriska I think this has turned more to kindness rather than laughter. Should we steer it back that way, or does she need kindness too?
