Spotting a tiny alcove above him, Shiloh quickly swam for it, tucking himself inside, and out reach of the mermaids.

Unfortunately, the alcove was home to more tentacles, and they were awfully touchy-feely.

His patience waning, and still worried about Maebe, Shiloh grappled with the tentacles, and they put up a good fight, but eventually he was pushing them back, and escaping through the other side of the cave towards the surface.

Luckily, it hadn't seemed to notice him, and the only damage he took was from it's rough hide. He waited for it to swim out of sight, before continuing onward. Out in the open water, he finally spotted Maebe swimming towards the surface. He bolted after her, wishing that calling her name would result in more than just bubbles. At least she was okay. 13 runes HP: 5/40

Maebe had made it out of the water before Shiloh, by some miracle. She thought he'd gotten away and left her there, but when she flopped on the sand and turned to look, he was behind her instead, just surfacing. She knocked some water out of her ear and tried to process that inconsistency.
Had he gone back for something? For her? For runes? For pony?
Whatever the case may be.. at least they were both safe.
She laid down on the sand and let the sun warm her skin while Shiloh caught up.

Shiloh crawled out onto the beach, pulling off his gear and doing his best to catch his breath while he waited for Maebe to join him. He was glad he'd brought the carving tools with him, emptying his pockets of both the stones and the tools. It was sandy, and not the safest of places for carving, but after battling off a multitude of strange sea creatures, Shiloh could definitely use a quiet moment sooner rather than later, and carving stones on the beach seemed to be the perfect opportunity. He had brought an extra set of tools for Maebe, and laid them carefully next to him in the sand next to his air tanks. 8 regular 1 superior Crafting Your Stones Find a place where you can reach the most perfect calm and focus possible, and then begin carving Uruz into each of your stones. Think on the purpose of the stone, and meaning of Uruz as you do so. Focus as much of yourself and your actions on the rune and the act of carving. Some people choose to chant out loud or do visual exercises to more perfectly focus on the task, but different methods work best for different people. Once the rune begins to glow, you'll know it's finished. Because this process depends more on people than lab computers and code, it's less consistent and predictable in its results. Roll 1d10 for each rune stone 1-3: failure! The runestone never glows and eventually breaks. 4-8: Regular Rune! The runestone can power small, battery-operated runic devices for up to a week. 9-10: Superior Rune! The runestone can charge your runic weapons. (In and out of battle. If in battle, it will take 5 turns for the weapon to properly charge.)

Shiloh had plopped down too far away, and when Maebe realized it, she groaned and got up off the sand. She was covered in it - and her gear - but she didn't care. She slowly peeled the gear off until she plopped down, her head falling on his legs. He was carving runes - hey, he'd even gotten her a set of tools to do it. So she got down to it, clumsy and inconsistent, but valid attempts nonetheless. She broke two of them, and two of them glowed a little, but her last one shone bright like the sun. She was kind of proud of that one. Not that she'd ever admit it. Shiloh had so many more broken ones sitting by him.. and because it was Shiloh, she didn't make up for him for it. Instead, she smacked his leg as she laid on it. "Mermaids." She huffed out unhappily. "I don't like this place. It's ruining my childhood."

"Were you expecting Ariel?" he asked her with a laugh as she sat down, shifting his leg and giving her a nudge in return for her smack. He supposed he could have just returned the favor, but his hands were currently occupied with both stone and tool, and he didn't want to interrupt the process, in case he ended up with another dud of the stone. He had several already sitting beside him, some glowing, others tossed carelessly in the sand to be left behind. He managed to get the hang out it after a few stones, however, so the pile of waste was not large. He clinked the tool against the rock, carving into it and his grin widened as a soft glow appeared. He gently set it with the other runes, and glanced down at Maebe. "I'm glad you're okay, though, those mermaids were tough. Worth it though," he grinned holding up his stones. "We should go turn these in."
