He could hear a strange sort of buzzing.

At first, he wasn't sure whether it was outside of his head and around him, or if it was inside of his head and surrounding his thoughts. Either way, it was a persistent sort of buzzing sound that fizzled and cracked.

It sounded, he decided, like an old machine of sorts - but his memories were hazy, he might be mistaken.

Gale slid down from the camel and patted Littlefoot affectionately on the nose. "You weren't really that bad," he told him.

Littlefoot's response was to snort at him again.

The odd buzzing noise continued as he pulled his supplies free from Littlefoot's back, checking and double checking to make sure of what he had and what he was missing. He tried tapping his temple, as though jogging his head slightly would make a difference, but all it did was making the buzzing just that stronger.

He shrugged and continued with getting his things together. Perhaps it was just from traveling as far as he had, on the creature he'd been on. He was tired, after all, exhausted. He needed rest.

Gale froze where he stood, fingers stopping mid-motion, half stretched to retrieve a fallen bag from the ground.

What was that?

<< ...ale. >>

It was a voice - sounding, Gale thought, as though it were coming from very far away. It wavered in an out, faded here and there, and Gale lifted his chin, trying to recall what it was, because there was something distinctly familiar about the voice, something oddly reminiscent...

<< Miss me? >>

And, like a jolt, it hit him.

"Jinhai?" he said aloud incredulously.

<< It's me. >>

The dragon sounded faintly amused, though almost as tired as Gale felt. He dropped his supplies and pressed two fingers to his temple in a sort of awed gesture before speaking again.

Where have you been?

<< I'm not sure. Not here, that's for certain. >> The dragon curled up inside of Gale's head. << But I'm back now. >>

Gale smiled.

I did miss you, by the way.

<< I know. >> said Jinhai, sounding amused.
