Perhaps he really hadn't processed the potential offense in his answer. He was hesitant in responding to her when she finally acknowledged him, though.

"Yeah... They both understood why I wanted to leave Amityville, but they never had the intention to accept it. My father was pissed about me throwing away a good education."

There was another pause on his end, like he wasn't sure if it was safe to say what he wanted to.

"My mother might have been even more upset over me leaving... Because of you."

Silence.

Again.

Really, Riyo didn't understand what he was getting at. Why would his mom be upset because of her? She'd never met his mother. She didn't care to. "What the ******** are you talking about? You mean leaving home? Because you knew I'd tear you a new one when you got back?" That's all she could assume.

"No, Riyo." The demon replied quickly, trying not to sound upset that she'd assume his mother had any ill will toward her. He reminded himself that she didn't have respectful parents to look up to in her childhood. Deacon couldn't help her attitude toward that, but he didn't want her to think that his parents were anything similar. Especially his mother.

However, that meant clarifying something that he hadn't quite considered putting into words yet.

"I told mom about you. She was livid that I'd left school. Not because of the money or the classes, but because you helped me." Damn, he could feel his cheeks heating. "She said that I must have been completely out of my mind to leave behind a ghoul who willingly put up with me through all of the s**t I put you through."

"Yeah, you ******** were you shithead!" Riyo shouted, feeling more angry than flattered. Had the situation been different, maybe such a thing would've made her feel good.

But not today.

"And even after that it took you this long to come back." The sound of clacking from the tub emanated from the bathroom. She'd rolled over to her side in an attempt to get comfortable. "I don't care how long it takes you to leave, I'm not moving out of this bathroom until you're gone." She could use towels for pillows and blankets, and she could survive without eating for awhile. Not like she hadn't done it before.

Honestly, Deacon was glad she was yelling at him and not about his mother anymore. Not that either one helped his side of the ordeal.

"Yeah, and I'd have still figured that you'd want nothing to do with me after I tore you to pieces." The tabby defended, even if he knew that point wasn't a good one.

He heard her moving around, and for a few moments he thought she just might come back out to kick him or something. But, the sounds went quiet again and he just growled softly to himself.

"I know that 'I'm sorry' is pretty ******** worthless to you coming from my mouth, but I've had a pretty good record at not regretting anything ever, so it's relatively new to care about how someone feels. It was stupid for me to leave without saying anything to you. That's not to say I don't regret going home, but I wish now that I would have told you. Given you a number, so you could have at least called if you wanted to. Or not called at all. You'd have known where to reach me if you wanted to vent, or curse me, or whatever it is ghouls do when they're pissed off at boils..."

"I guess we're both going to be here for a long time, then, because I'm sure I can sit out here just as long as you can hide in there."

A couple of minutes passed before there was any response from the bathroom.

"Challenge accepted."

Riyo reached out to grab a towel from the rack and fold it up under her head. This would be her bed for the night. He'd probably be gone in the morning after his own bed called to him.

Because surely he wouldn't sleep in hers...

Surely...

With a frustrated huff, she made an effort to get comfortable before closing her eyes.

-----

And at 3 in the morning, the feline awoke with a groan. Why was she sleeping in the tub?

... Oh. Oh yeah. The bloody toilet paper from her nose was a good reminder. Was he gone yet?

A soft, short chuckle was Deacon's only response.

-----

Unfortunately, he was still there. Still sitting against the wall exactly where he had been, with his head dipped forward and arms crossed. Deacon had dozed off a few times, including the little cat nap that he was taking when Riyo woke.

His ears caught her groan of discomfort, and he opened his eyes a crack. Otherwise, he didn't move. Only listened.

As quiet as she could muster, Riyo's feet crept over towards the door and undid the lock as carefully as possible.

Her head peered out, first looking straight ahead, then to both sides.

s**t!

The door was about to close shut, but... Wait. Was he sleeping?

Maybe now would be her chance. She could grab some supplies for her stay in the sanctuary of Saint John (see what I did there).

Deacon honestly wasn't trying to pretend he was sleeping, so he simply tilted his head to look up at her.

"Morning."

And then the door promptly slammed shut, another click following as the lock was pushed in. That was her good morning.

And it wasn't until 8 o clock sharp that any more stirring was heard. Riyo's cats were getting hungry, and they made sure to let the only humanoid creature in sight know with their mews and meows and purrs and caterwalling.

Riyo had been hungry, but she kept that to herself.

Deacon flinched at the loud sound, snorting a laugh. Well, if she was going to be that way...

He wasn't aware of the waking world again until a very close meow had him opening his eyes immediately in confusion. It hadn't sounded like Caleb... Which was probably a good thing, because Deacon might have swatted the poor minipet away if he'd have thought him the culprit of waking him.

"Nngh...? What'da want?" Deacon muttered sleepily, noting all of the felines that were roaming around like sharks before a feeding frenzy. He really didn't need to wait for an answer; he knew. The tabby pulled himself up with a few awkward pops of joints that didn't much appreciate the sleeping arrangement, casting a brief glance at the bathroom door before walking toward the kitchen.

the cats immediately ran to the kitchen when their meal ticket arose, leading the boil to a specific cabinet and pawing at it anxiously. It wasn't hard to figure out what was what. There was a big plastic bin that clearly had a tub of dry cat food, and as many cans of cheap tuna as a cabinet could hold.

And the rest of the cabinets were empty, as was the fridge.

The bathroom door opened only momentarily before creaking closed. Again.

Deacon looked down at the cats as he walked, if only to keep himself from tripping over one or eight of the anxious creatures. "Hang on, hang on!" He was complaining, knowing full well it would be fruitless. "For Jack's sake, if you make me fall and break my neck you're just going to have to wait longer!"

Following their enthusiastic gestures, it took Deacon about three seconds to know where the cat food was. He opened the cabinet to find their food, grabbing the rim of the bin of kibble and tugging it out of the cabinet. Sure, he probably should have assumed that walking would be all the more difficult than before with him carrying the tub of glorious food around the kitchen, but alas. He got about half a dozen bowls filled before he nearly tripped over someone, immediately showering several of the cats below him with about five pounds worth of kibble.

"
It was a random thought, really, that maybe he could cook something for Riyo. He didn't know if she'd even eat anything he prepared, if she'd even open the bathroom door to begin with. Nonetheless, he had gone to the fridge and opened the door.

To find it completely empty.

Deacon was confused for a moment, frowning, but thought not too much of it as he closed the door. Okay, so she didn't buy things that needed to be refrigerated. No big deal. It was, however, more concerning when he opened one of the nearest cabinets and found it empty as well. As well as the next one... And the next one... He glanced toward the bottom cabinet that had only held cheap tuna and cat food.

Well. This was certainly a shocker. How the ******** was he supposed to address this without coming off as even more of a colossal jerk?
PostPosted: Tue Sep 03, 2013 9:33 pm

Riyo sat at the door with her ear propped up against it, listening to every step that was made, meow that was cried, and kibble that was spilled. She would've been mad, if it hadn't been a nice gesture to begin with. Oh, who was she kidding? She could still be mad at him.

"I'm still not coming out..." She mumbled behind the locked hunk of wood. Funny though, how even the sound of dry cat food hitting a bowl could make her even more aware of how hungry she was. Deacon had caused her to miss dinner last night, and it looked like he would be the cause of her missing a tuna can breakfast this morning. b*****d.

Deacon didn't hear her mutter, although he probably might have without all of the purring and kibble-crunching. He already knew better than to expect her to come out now, though. The demon sighed heavily and grabbed out two cans of tuna, since it was the only thing he could offer her. After a short drawer search he found a fork, and padded quietly to the bathroom and knocked lightly.

"Here. Open up. I'm not gonna force my way in or anything..." Deacon promised, holding the cans and utensil close to where the door would crack open if she listened.

He was really at a loss, and if she bothered to give a glance at him it would show on his face. Deacon figured she would appreciate not being addressed about it, but clearly she needed help. Prideful as demons were, to say nothing of their rocky relationship, to try and discuss this might only push her further away... Things never seemed to get easier for her, did they?
