Her third try was not the charm--only pain was her reward, and Stormy was forced to back away as her back began to complain. Wings twitching with agitation, she decided to back away and simply give it a go another time.

Maybe there was another way to open it besides the lever.

...The latches were easy enough to undo on their own.

Finally, she managed to find a key before the floorboards broke beneath her like it did the last time.

The key fit through the only locked room on this ship.

Unfortunately, with that, water started to flood in as well.

There was something on the table, and she picked it up, only for it to stab right into her and knock her out cold.

Seeing the boat arrive, Gwyn was perplexed. When did she arrive at the water? No matter, she thought looking over the boat and noting the calm it seemed to instill in everything. The boat was large, with sails that looked like fins lining the deck on thick wooden poles. All of them were tattered, yet still holding together. Even the gentlest push from the wind was able to guide them and propel the boat forward.

As she got aboard, the ropes holding the boat snapped as wood creaked. She sunk as water started to get closer to the deck and then the sails dropped. They fell to the water and drops cascaded around her in shimmering speckles of light. Hearing a groan and a sloshing sound, Gwyn looked over to the side of the boat. The sails were moving in the water like fins. At this point, Gwyn noted to herself that not all things were as they seemed on this boat, if it was a boat at all.

The deck was empty, yet as she inspected the wood she noticed that much of the wood was porous and was rough in some places, as if covered in a thick layer of sealant that was never smoothed out. There were decorative carvings in the wood that gave the illusion of scales. Images of strange creatures lined the panels that of the captain's cabin. The windows were thick, and bent just slightly. Dust made it impossible to see through them. Going to the wheel, she noted that it wouldn't move. The ship was moving on it's own. Or with the tide. She was not sure. There was nothing here to see, since the door was locked and seemingly impossible to break. The only open place to go was down, if she could get the grate up and off.

Quote:
4- You find a lever. Its seems too easy- and it is. Things shouldn't be this easy. The grate slides open and now you can go below deck. Just to be safe, you tie the latch so it'll remain open. You don't trust this boat. Boats are not very trust worthy. Not sure why, but ships and shipping... the words alone feel dangerous, like they might start some sort of bond... Nah. You're thinking too hard. (Pass)

Finding a lever, Gwyn thought that opening the grate could not be that simple, but it was. After the grate slid open, the way to the lower decks was clear. Just in case, Gwyn tied the latch so that it would remain open. This boat was odd and she did not trust it.

Quote:
1- A crack, the wood under you feet breaks and you fall into black water. Bitter, it feels like hands are holding you down, and in horror, you look up, only to see the ship floating away. You swim as hard as you can- You can't grip the side of the ship, you have to go under, find the hole. Hands hold you under the waves. Darkness beckons. A sweet song, the water sings it's sweet lullaby. If you close your eyes...(Fail, you have 'drowned)

The air below decks was humid and stiffing. It stank of salt and brine. Fishy, the light was only from the portholes and the grate. Grabbing a nearby lantern Gwyn was surprised when it turned on on it's own, despite a lack of oil. Still, it was dark. Water sloshed at her feet but she felt that it was nothing to worry about. Not yet anyway.

Hearing a clatter, Gwyn turned to see chains lining a far wall, and a sense of fear washed over her. Upon further inspection, there was no cargo, just lines of chains and broken locks. Something had been freed. Something had escaped. There should be something of value left behind though. It was just a matter of figuring out what.

Suddenly, the wood under her feet broke and she fell into the black water. It felt like hands were holding her down, and in horror, she looked up, only to see the ship floating away. Swimming as hard as she could, she was unable to grip the side of the ship. She had to go under, find the hole. Diving under the boat, she drifted into nothingness...

The walk up to the ship, once Emery had spotted it in the distance, was uneventful, which immediately set the young ghoul into a tense, crouched jog. The calm before the storm. The water was calm as she treaded across it, and she could hear the falls in the distance, roaring softly behind her. She kept close to the rock and path, wary of how easy it would be just to topple over the edge, to end it so quickly in the calm water below. The boat, the reason for her dangerous hike, was massive, which she came to appreciate further when she came closer to the ship. The sails lined the deck, clinging to thick wooden poles, tattered but holding, clinging to the ship as the wind caught it to push the boat forward, before dying off again.

She climbed aboard the ship, yelping as the rope holding the ship snapped behind her, wood creaking under her steps. The boat began to sink under her, water rising closer to the deck. The sails suddenly dropped, making her jump back as they hit the water, splashing water up onto the boat and Emery. She jerked slightly at the sound of sloshing, and looked down over the edge, swallowing her uneasiness as she realized it was just the sails, still floating and moving even in the water.

Emery straightened up finally, pushing off the railing and turning to inspect the deck. She stepped forward gingerly, noting how the wood seemed unfinished; porous, rough wood. Some of it was decorated, carvings in place to give the illusion of scales or weird monstrous creatures. She walked up to the Captain’s cabin, trying to wipe some of the dust off the window to no avail, before looking up to the wheel. She tried pushing against it, grimacing. Stuck. But the ship still moved of its own volition. Emery tried to tell herself it was the tide, but really, she couldn’t be sure.

Climbing back down from the wheel, Emery looked around, eyes lighting up on the grate that led below deck. She ventured forward, crouching down, and felt along the edges of the grate. The smooth latches came undone easily, and she pulled the grate free, dropping it to the side… Next to some levers.

“Oh, of course.” She deadpanned, frustrated. Shaking it off, she descended into the bowels of the ship, bracing herself for… Something.

Below deck, the air was stifling and hot. The smells assaulted her nose before she could cover it, and Emery found herself gagging. She raised her shirt up over her nose, gasping for air, and swallowed hard, taking a lantern to try lighting it. But she didn’t have to; with a yelp, the light turned itself on, and Em almost dropped it there. “No no!” She caught it quickly, gasping, and looked around, squinting in the darkness. She stepped down off the stoop and into the water, grimacing at the sloshing.

She heard a clatter, and looked up sharply, lifting the lantern. Chains lined the wall to her right, but there was nothing chained up. A sick feeling hit her stomach. Something had been here once, and it was gone now. She swallowed carefully, and stepped forward, trying to venture closer to the locks. Maybe there was something of value there.

As she stepped down, the wood suddenly gave way, and Emery yelled as she went under. She kicked sharply, feeling hands claw at her legs to pull her down, and she looked down only for a second, to try and kick away, before looking up. The ship was floating away from her. She swam, kicking hard against the hands trying to drag her down, and clawed at the ship. Too smooth, too smooth, she’d have to find the hole—

Darkness swam in her vision, and as she kicked, she felt the hands claw up to her waist, clinging at her shirt, dragging her down further. A song filtered through the ways, sweet and gentle, lulling her to sleep. Yes, yes sleep. She’d wake up and this would all be a nightmare… Emery closed her eyes, and sank into the deep dark waters below.
