"Well lucky for you... I'm not asking you to do that." Dawn was approaching and the some of the light reached Proserpina. Somehow she looked even more terrible brightened than she had in shadow.
"I don't think you're capable of that, and I wouldn't want to get you locked away again." No, that she did not. She traced one claw across the chafe-mark left by a manacle on Elaenyra's ankle. "Not when we've just begun." What would life be like with such a devoted pet? She was very curious to find out.

A shiver ran over Elaenyra at Proserpina's touch. The sun was indeed rising. In the course of a night, she'd gone from being bound by chains to being bound by obsession. Soon it would be day and they would both sleep, but she knew her father would sleep as well. He hadn't found them. Each night that passed meant one more night's worth of distance away from him and less chance for recapture. She was full of fury and determination.
She wasn't going back.
