Tuck looked mildly defeated. Okay. Maybe he'd score something that wasn't the Backstreet Boys or N*Sync. He mentally crossed his fingers and rose to his feet so that he could grab the hairbrush that was still lying on the floor. The instant that the next song came on, he groaned and slumped down slightly before straightening his shoulders. Tuck lifted the bottom hem of his shirt and brought it up through his neckline so that his abs were bared in classic Fergie style. And he sang his a** off. Only the Fergie parts. Were there booty-pops? ******** yes there were. All of the lovely lady lumps. In the back and in the front. He's gonna get get get get you drunk, get you love drunk off this hump, Heidi.

Heidi had tried to keep a poker face but she just. Couldn't. Do it. She fell over, laying on the floor and just laughing hysterically. "O-oh god! Tuck!" She snorted, both hands covering her mouth. "You're the best. Amazing." Totally worth it. "Y-you can give me a dare ohgodyourhumpspfftahaha!"

Tuck threw the hairbrush across the room with a grin as he flopped on the floor next to Heidi, breathing ********. You can't tell nobody I did that, promise? I'd never live that s**t down."
He shook his head and watched her laughing, his grin spreading. She was so adorable he could hardly ******** stand it. She wasn't smokin' hot like Candace, and she wasn't smokin' hot like Nevada, but she was pretty ******** lovely in her own right, and he couldn't stop himself from what he said next.
Tuck knew he would probably regret it.
"I dare you t'kiss me."

Heidi was still laughing when Tuck laid on the floor beside her, holding her sides and curled up on the blanket. He'd danced! He'd done the stupid shirt fold over thing! Oh god and the booty popping and just..pfftahaha! "I won't tell! I promise! I promise!" Heidi took a deep breath as she worked on trying to calm down, wiping tears from her eyes as her laughter subsided into little giggle fits. Getting there, she was getting there.
Her breathing all but stopped when Tuck's dare finally hit her. Wait. What?
There was a nervous giggle, a look that said 'oh Tuck you're so funny now seriously what's my dare', almost desperately. She laid there beside him on the floor having absolutely no idea what to say or do. To...kiss him? But she did! Remember? She..she kissed his...cheek..
Heidi sat up, supporting herself with her hands. "But..but I just told you I've never...you'd hate it! I..I don't know how! Like, you've got..those other..gorgeous ladies I'm sure they're, like, a hundred times better at it than I'll ever be a-and.." She was babbling, stalling. She didn't know what to do. There were instincts telling her to run but her conscience wouldn't let her, it would hurt his feelings and it could damage their friendship. Tuck was super handsome, he made her laugh and he was so good to her, but..he was a bro! Him making her feel special and important and awesome and like she was the most clever thing since the word clever was invented didn't..it was just because they were bros?
"Did we ever come up with, like, rules if we have to turn down a dare? When I played with the others we had a rule where if you turned down a dare you had to do a punishment game a-and I could do that I don't think I could do it I'd just, like, disappoint you and then it'd be awkward because it'd be like 'hey Heidi remember that time you kissed me and it was awful yeah that happened' and then I'd like like 'oh noooo' andandIjustIdon't.."
She hadn't said no, she was too busy rambling to actually say no.

That nervous giggle was the first sign that he'd gone too far, and that look that followed cemented it entirely. The smile completely melted off his face, and he nervously straightened his shirt. The bro-line had been crossed, and Tuck worried that he'd really ******** things up entirely.
"Heeeeey, look, short stack, it's .. if you don't want to you don't have to, we're fine, right, we're still cool, I can come up with a different dare, I'm sorry. Actually, this game is stupid - if you want to leave that's fine, ain't gonna, I mean, I ain't upset. I mean, I am upset if I upset you, but. I'm sorry. I mean. It ain't no contest, ain't like I wanted you to kiss me so I could compare you to other women, it's just that I wanted to.. never mind. You ain't gotta kiss me if you don't want to, an' I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, sometimes I just ain't got a real good filter and I say things before I think about 'em, and I was thinkin' about kissin' you, but --"
Wait, what?
"I mean, I was ... It ain't like that, I mean, ********. It is. But. I'm sorry. Can we just forget I said anythin' and .. you can go if you want. Really."
Tuck paused and sat up, looking completely miserable at the prospect of upsetting her.

Her rambling stopped when she heard Tuck speak up. They were fine? They were cool? Oh thank god. Heidi sighed with relief, blushing fiercely and wringing her fingers anxiously. "Leave? O-oh, no! I..I wasn't...going to leave.." Heidi admitted quietly, her voice lowering with each word. She was being honest, she had considered it only until she thought it would hurt and upset Tuck. 'I wanted to'? 'I was thinking about kissing you'? Her? Why her? She was like..plain, and tiny, and inexperienced and she talked a big game but it was just all talk she didn't actually know anything.
Tuck wanted to kiss her. Her.
Heidi pursed her lips and just watched Tuck. He looked so sad. No. No. That was not okay. She swallowed hard, debating quickly in her head what to do. Tuck was a really awesome guy and she cared about him so much, and he wanted to kiss her. And he made her feel awesome, and they had fun, and he was super thoughtful..
She looked around the room, biting down on the end of her thumb. He did all of this for her, just to make her happy. He asked her on a date because he wanted her.
Tuck was the most thoughtful man she had ever been friends with, and he cared about her, and she liked him and he was just..
Just...
Heidi moved, crawling toward Tuck without another word. When she was close enough she leaned in closer until her lips met with his.

Tuck watched Heidi closely, saw the play of emotions over her face. He wanted to know what was going on inside of that head of hers. He'd always been able to handle women, more often than not, but there was just something about Heidi that made him feel like he was bumbling along, ******** everything up like a muddle-mouthed idiot.
Tuck's mouth went dry when Heidi moved towards him. He thought about stopping her. He thought about abruptly moving to his feet so that she didn't have to follow through on the dare. That's what this was about, the stupid dare - and he was convinced she didn't really want to kiss him, but she didn't want to lose face, either.
Suddenly her lips were pressed to his, and Tuck absolutely froze. Didn't move a muscle. He even held his breath, terrified that if he made any sort of move, Heidi would bolt. He wanted to move. He wanted to touch her neck experimentally, maybe even deepen the kiss just a little - but he didn't.
He just sat there and waited to see what would happen next.

That was not exactly the reaction Heidi had been expecting. In the movies when this kind of thing happened it was always this..dramatic moment where the man realized how stupid he was to doubt the woman and then they kissed and there was a happy ending for all. That was not what Tuck was doing.
Heidi sat back, pouting her lips and scowling at Tuck with a mixture of disappointment and annoyance. "Geeze, I know I'm not any good at it but I didn't think I was that bad." She put her hands on her knees, trying not to feel too dejected. Maybe he was just surprised. "I thought you wanted me to kiss you."

"I did - I do," he corrected himself, shifting where he sat, "I just. I mean."
Tuck cleared his throat.
"You... I mean."
Aw, ******** it.
Tuck leaned forward and took Heidi's mouth in a kiss, his hand coming up to cup her jaw. If he'd ******** s**t up beyond repair, he might as well go for broke.

"Well then why didn't--" Tuck's mouth on hers cut her off, and the girl could only manage a squeak of surprise. He was kissing her! She was being kissed! Holy cow. Holy crap. This was crazy. She was kissing someone oh my god.
Incorrect, young one. Thou art mimicking what thine 'bro' was doing only moments ago. Matilda tried not to sound very pleased with herself. She'd managed a rhyme without even trying. Motherjacking yes.
And for once Heidi actually understood the words that were ringing through her head. Usually Matilda made no sense.
A hand came up to gently place a hand on Tuck's shoulder, scooting closer to him and tilting her head up to try and return the kiss. Don't think about it. Don't panic. You've totally got this, Heidi. You can kiss a guy. Was she doing it right? Was this enough? Should she do more? Er..hands...what should she do with her hands? Was what she was doing okay?
Oh god Heidi stop thinking.
Suddenly Heidi was giggling, effectively ruining the kiss and bowing her head. Her lips felt all tingly and her heart was racing, she could practically hear it. "S-sorry. Sorry," Heidi pursed her lips, rubbing them together a bit and looking up at Tuck with a goofy smile. "That felt funny..er..a good funny. Heh. Um...sorry for..laughing.." Lame. She cleared her throat and squeezed Tuck's shoulder. "Again?"

When Heidi's giggles broke the kiss, Tuck pulled back with a huge dimpled grin. He didn't know what she was laughing at, but she wasn't running out of the room screaming about how much she hated him and how so-not-bro things had become.
Giggles were good. He could handle that.
And then she started talking about things feeling funny and holy s**t Heidi you can't say that to a man without intriguing ******** cleared his throat.
"You think that's a good idea?"

Heidi blinked. "Why not? I liked it." But if he wanted to stop that was okay. She leaned back to sit more comfortably on the floor, her hand dropping from Tuck's shoulder. At least she was still smiling. "Sneaky Tuckella~. How long have you been wanting to do that?" Back to nicknames, everything was normal, everything was fine. They kissed, it was a thing that happened, and she wouldn't complain if it happened again, but that didn't have to like..change everything drastically and immediately, right?
"Sooo what should we do now? Did you want to drop the dare stuff and just talk until bed?" She'd made a promise! Unless Tuck insisted she not stay the night she had every intention of sleeping here again. "I'm not leaving unless you kick me out. You're pretty much stuck with me, dude."

"Done with the game, yeah." Tuck shook his head and squinted at Heidi. Back in the brozone? He had no ******** idea. She was keeping him on his toes. What the hell. "I'll put the food away if you wanna change into your pajamas."
s**t. He wasn't going to be able to sleep at all.
How long had he been wanting to do that? ********. "Since you borrowed my hairbrush. I dunno." More squinting. He rose to his feet and held out a hand to help Heidi up so that he could start picking up the food.
Stuck with her. That made him grin.
"Or I can go change if you wanna change in here. I need to brush my teeth and pi -- use the restroom."

"'Kay~." Heidi looked to the food when Tuck said he would put it away, peeking into the basket to see if anything else interested her. Hm...yes, but she was kind of full. That or there were butterflies in her stomach.
...
She was full. Yes. That was what this was. That was all it was.
Wait..what? How long ago had she borrowed his hairbrush? That had to have been like..two weeks? Had it been two weeks? It felt like longer. But still..whoa. She accepted the help up, unsure of what to say despite it having been her question to begin with. "That's a long time, huh?" She straightened out her dress and turned to pick up the bag she'd left by the door, looking back at Tuck when he changed plans.
"Oh, sure. That works. I'll put the food away while you're gone~." Even if he said no she was doing it. He couldn't stop her. She was already digging an oversized t-shirt and flannel pajama pants out of her bag, taking off what was safe to have off when Tuck was still in the room.

Tuck opened his mouth like he was going to say something.
This is a terrible idea and you should leave.
I am a terrible person and you should leave.
What is even going ON here.
What came out was: "I'll... be right back."
He grabbed a pair of sweatpants on his way out.
What the ******** was he doing?!
