The silence in in acknowledgement for those who have been silenced by society because of their sexual orientation (this is what's going to be on our cards tomorrow).

I'm going to be participating. But I'm very unsettled about a certain class I have where the majority are homophobes. I wish I had an idea of what I should do to be ready for that hour of the day. crying

I don't know the official rules aboot this day...
I'm not participating, though... because actions speak louder than words, and words speak louder than silence! (unless the silence is filled with action?)

OK, Day Of Silence has started (here anyways). My wife is freaking out and doesn't want me to participate because she'll feel lonly and neglected, so I guess I'll make an ecception for her...seeing as how she's been there for me through it all, coming out, breakups ect....and I owe it to her.

Silence is a tool for personal self-reflection. The whole point of the day of silence isn't to support the LGBT community, it is to STOP HOMOPHOBIA. Granted, most people don't realize that.
The Day of Silence is also used as a method for heterosexual people to understand what it's like to WANT to talk about something, but not be able to.
LoserXCore, you may be surprised how many straight people take it seriously. I'm helping out at my friend's highschool today (I'm not in school at all.. so I can heh) and the majority of the people doing it are straight. It's going to be a very serious event there.
And it doesn't "poke fun" at all. It's used to RAISE AWARENESS about homophobia, and the negative RESULTS of homophobia. It isn't degrading at all. In fact, I personally think it makes you a stronger person just to experience something like this.

I'm sad: I can't participate this year. My school is STAR testing (I'm a senior, so I don't do it) and I don't have any classes today, so I'm not going. Now, true, that doesn't make it so I can't participate, but I'm having a look at UC Santa Cruz, and I have to talk there (ie questions, etc.). I didn't get to do it last year, either, because it fell on a bad date at my school. confused But I'm wearing the DoS shirt to support. 3nodding Have a good day, everyone!
