"Taught mahself." Ofelia looked over her shoulder at Tuck. Apparently her floor was a lot more comfortable than she thought or else he was just hungry enough to accept it and suck it up. "At first Ah'd watch mah aunt cook but after a while she stopped carin' an' so did mah brother so if Ah didn't wanna starve Ah fed mahself."
Ah, those first years had been amazing with how many trips to the ER she'd made or how many times she'd nearly set the kitchen on fire. The end result was some divine culinary skills but was it worth it?!
It was.
Because cooking and baking. "Do ya want any side dishes? Ah can make ya some fried rice an' beans."

"I'd take over your pod duty or lighthouse duty or kitchen duty for a month for some fried rice n' beans, not even gonna lie, Ofie."
He briefly wondered if she'd make him do the dishes. Tuck inhaled deeply. His mouth started watering.
"Is there anythin' I can do to help?"

"Ahahaha ya don't gotta. Ah actually like havin' duties here too...sometimes." Ofelia had been on pod duty when she was reunited with Before. That had been....a wonderful thing that no one need know about yup. "Ah'll make ya food any time ya want it an' anythin' ya want so jus' ask, 'kay?" The redhead winked her good eye and started on the beans. She could turn down the heat on the meat and let it simmer, making it even taster, and that would allow time for rice and beans.
This stuff was on, and then Tuck asked if he could help. "Ah 'unno. Talkin' ta me helps or maybe if ya wanna ya can chop onions?" Ofelia motioned to the counter where the veggies sat.

"You mean chop them with a knife?" He looked a little appalled. "Probably cut a damn finger off or somethin'. I'll just sit here n' talk." Maybe he wouldn't have to do dishes. This just might be the best day ever. And she'd make him food whenever he wanted? Oh hell yes. "Why do you wanna move into a house when you got this apartment?"

Ofelia nodded. "Yup, wit' a knife." That was easy enough said and he seemed okay but he said he'd rather sit. That was also okay and Ofelia grinned until he asked another question.
"Um....Ah guess cause...well." Ofelia, for the first time since they started talking, was apparently struck speechless. Her cheeks colored a little but then went back to their usual creamy mocha. "Ah wanna have a bigger kitchen than this. Like Ah mentioned Ah got freezers too but no room in here fer 'em." The redhead wasn't going to mention it was because she was doing bride training because ******** man that was personal.
No one would believe such a crazy random woman wanted to be a bride anyway. It didn't fit her image. "Plus if Ah had'a house Ah could have more people over an' they'd have places ta sit other than the floor." She teased.

Tuck nodded. Made perfect sense, really. He wasn't sure if he'd want a house or a bigger room like Candace had, but he was still quite a ways away from a promotion. Wasn't really worth thinking about right now. "I s'pose you got a point. I mean, you got your own bathroom here, but these lil' apartments are still kinna small. House might be nice. Not sure what I'd pick, to be truthful." He lifted his broad shoulders in a shrug and grinned at the redhead. "Where'd you learn t'cook?"

"Nnn like Ah said, taught myself mostly. Ah did have some teachers at school who showed me stuff when they found out Ah was forgin' fer food on mah own." Ofelia took hold of the skillet in a gloved hand and tossed everything in it up. It landed back in with a one-two-awesome.
As for the house or apartment? "Well if Ah get a house too no one has ta be bothered by me sometimes. Plus Ah can make all the noise Ah want an' no one has ta hear it." The teen - no - young woman now, grinned mischievously. "Ah like ta yell."

Oh, right, he'd asked her where she'd learned to cook. Tuck blamed it on the hunger pangs that were assaulting his gut, and watched with starry eyes as Ofie flipped the food around in the skillet. "You like to yell? About what?" Tuck paused. " At what?" A house would be more spacious and more isolated. That would be nice - then again, he kind of liked being close to everyone. The parties were cool, that was for sure. He'd met some pretty chill people at parties. Tuck's stomach let out a whine.

Ofelia took pity on a starving man and tossed him over a piece of steak that was cooked enough it wouldn't kill him if he wanted to much on it. And by tossed that meant 'put on a plate and handed over'. He could eat it if wanted or wait, she was cool either way and the veggies were in need of a good chop.
Which she did.
And then Tuck asked what she liked to scream about.
"Competitive board games." That was sort of a lie. Ofelia was often yelling at Rue but he didn't need to know that. "Or sometimes yellin' when trainin' like they did in them old kung-fu movies. Haa yaaa an' all that."

Tuck ate the food she offered so fast that he choked on it when she explained what she yelled at. It was ******** delicious and he couldn't wait to eat an entire plate full of Ofie's cooking. "Shiiit," he coughed, thumping his chest as he laughed, eyes watering. "Why do it come to mind so easy," Tuck finally wheezed, making kung-fu karate gestures with one hand as he wiped away tears with the other.

"Hehehe, careful now. Ah tend ta take people's breaths 'way wit' mah cookin' but Ah'd rather not have ya die in mah room." That would seriously look bad and she was not ready for that kind of responsibility. Sure most people knew her as off her rocker anyway but dragging a body out of her room?
Newp, no thank you.
"Okay, gimmie 'bout five minutes an' the rest'a this will be done. Ah made a small 'mount fer the food an' . . . " Okay she needed to make the rice too. Ofelia just kept moving like a one-woman assembly food line and it was fun. "Anyway ya like kung-fu movies? Ah ain't much'a one fer movies or TV but sometimes Ah'd see 'em showin' in other people's houses."

Rown it's okay we're both pokey joes :> Tuck merely chuckled. "Ain't never been into the karate movies, 'specially if they the foreign ones. I don't like havin' to read during movies. Captions ain't my style. I do like action flicks, though, an' I do like comedies." He fell silent as he watched her move around the kitchen. They way she carried herself in the kitchen took him back, kind of reminded him of the way his ma had been. The kitchen had been her domain entirely, and she'd owned it - just like Ofie did.

"Ah should learn ta watch more movies." Was all Ofelia had to say about that and she went back to the task at hand. The meal was almost done, more time had passed than she thought with how much she had going on, and eventually the fajitas and everything else where ready.
"Anyhoo here ya go. Help yerself ta whatever, Ah got condiments an' other stuff in one'a the fridges. Eat as much as ya want, any leftovers will go ta the techs in Life labs." The redhead waved her hand towards the massive objects and started gathering up the cooking dishes. She didn't have much in the way of cleaning here in her room so she'd probably need to migrate to the dishwasher when everything was done. "Here's a plate too." She handed over a clean set of silverware and plates to Tuck.
