Rouge Solo #5/#6: "Comforting Warmth"

"We're home, everybody!" Natsu cried as he entered Mez, Osha rushing in along side him. It was very early in the morning, but he knew at least Fakih would be awake to greet them, and he smiled at his father. It would be fantastic to have Osha home! He would meet Ogbonna for the first time, Sangita would make a huge feast with the food that Mycah caught, and everyone would be happier! He grinned at the thought of a peaceful dinner with all his family surrounding him. Absolutely perfect.

"Where is Moka?" Osha asked, breaking Natsu's bubble of happy thoughts. "He's always up this early! Where is my Moka?"

"I... I don't..." Natsu began, glancing from left to right. How was he going to tell his father that his partner had been missing for almost six years now? They had just got home from a long journey, he couldn't be the one to upset him! He held his breath and searched for the right words to explain, until he spotted his grandfather wandering out of his tent. "OH! LOOK! IT'S GRANDPA, DAD!" He exclaimed, waving to Fakih. "GRANDPA! We're HOME!"

Fakih blinked, rubbed his eyes once or twice, before squealing. "OSHAAAA!" He cried, darting straight over to his son. His arms wrapped around Osha as tightly as he could manage without choking him, and he began to sob. "You look just as young as you did when you left, my sweet, sweet, Osha!"

"Oh, father! Don't lie!" Osha chuckled, his own tears starting up again. "I've certainly aged! Moka won't recognize me!"

Fakih paused, his eyes growing solemn, before he turned to face Natsu.
"You haven't told him...?" He asked, clearly taken aback.

"What hasn't he told me, father?" Osha said, turning his attention to Natsu as well. "Is Moka alright...?"

"M-Moka...? Oh, yes!" Natsu stuttered, rubbing his head nervously. "Moka is... Is... Uh... Is... Iiiiis...."

"My father has been missing for six years, Osha." Grumbled Mycah, who had stepped out of his tent just as Fakih had begun to cry out. He sighed, hugged Osha tightly, and smiled weakly at him. "We are going to start searching for him now that you're home..."

Osha paused, his expression going completely blank, before his body went limp. His Moka was... Missing? MISSING?! He broke into a sobbing fit and buried his face into his father's shoulder.

"MOKA IS GONE?! MY MOKA IS GONE?!" He screamed. "NO! WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM?!"

"He went on a hunting trip and never came back, dad..." Natsu replied, his own body growing stiff. He hated to talk about Moka, the whole thing just didn't make sense. A beloved berserker set out hunting with his friends and never returns despite multiple accounts from his friends stating that he did, in fact, turn and go home without injuries. None of it made sense...

It was then that Mycah tapped his shoulder and brought him back out of his thoughts. His entire family had woken and gathered around him, chattering about plans to split up and look for Moka. His brother lead him aside and into one of their tents, before giving him a hug.

"Thank you for being so good..." He said, heaving a sigh. "You got Osha safely here where he belongs and I'm pleased..." Then, he glanced down to the floor. "Now all we need to do is travel to Zena and find my father..."

"Zena? Why Zena?" Natsu asked.

"Because Zevian said he might have seen him wandering around on the slopes..." Mycah replied, biting his lip. "Zev didn't get a chance to actually talk to the man he saw, but he said he had blonde hair and light skin. If that's not my father, then who else would he be?"

Natsu nodded. Zevian would never lie to Mycah, he was like family. He and Moka were fairly close while growing up, as it had been explained to them when they were children, making it even more unlikely that Zevian would lie about seeing their father. He smiled back at his brother and patted him on the shoulder.

"Alright, let's head out before noon." He said. "We'll want to be sure to beat any storm that might come our way..."

---

As Natsu had predicted, there was a blizzard approaching Zena that could be seen just as they ascended the first slope. He and Mycah had to be careful while they traveled up these mountains together, and be mindful of where they were. Neither man wanted to end up like Zevian's wife, Ren, who slipped off of a slope and fell to her death six years prior. They tied a rope to each other's backs to ensure that neither of them would get lost.

At first the blizzard was light and manageable, but as they climbed further and further upwards, the fury of the storm grew stronger. Mycah would buckle down against the winds as they were coming, but Natsu knew that it was better to remain in a defensive stance no matter the strength of the gust. As soon as his brother's guard was let down, the wind would come swooping in again and knock him down, if he wasn't careful. Natsu clung to every bit of hope he had that they would make it to the first plateau in one piece.

But despite his time spent in prayer, a piece of ice came crashing down from above them, sending shards of ice down with it. Mycah made a poor move out of fear and latched onto a small foot ledge, only to have it crack under his weight. Without anything else for him to grab onto, Mycah plummeted downwards, which jerked Natsu off of his own steady grip. The pair of brothers screamed, assured that their fate was sealed.

Mycah landed upon the ground first with a dull thud and could only watch as Natsu fell his last few feet. Their bodies lay still upon the snow, stunned by the force of how they had landed. Natsu gazed to Mycah and Mycah gazed back, before both men blacked out.

---

A loud thumping noise was what Natsu woke to days after he and Mycah had taken their fall. His eyes fluttered open to find himself laying in the arms of his elder brother, who had woken only hours before. Tears were streaming down his brother's face, which prompted Natsu to nuzzle into Mycah's chest.

"Shhh, I'm okay..." He sighed.

"Oh, thank goodness!" Mycah gasped, cradling Natsu like a baby. "You and I had taken such a fall and I thought I had lost you, little brother! I am so sorry that I made such a dumb move like that!"

Natsu nodded and wiggled into a sitting position. He squeezed Mycah tightly for a moment before looking around. Where were they? Some sort of cave or something? It sure wasn't a house, that's for sure. It had some odd makeshift furniture, a rug, and a fire pit in the center of the room. There were no logs on the fire, but it looked as if it had been recently used. He turned to Mycah and arched an eyebrow.

"Where are we?" He asked.

"I'm not certain, actually..." Mycah replied. "I woke up a few hours ago and saw you laying beside me. Somebody must have found us and brought us here..."

"Oh..." Natsu muttered, his voice trailing off. Well, whoever had saved them surely didn't have a proper house. This was a cave made up like a den area! Who would choose such a cold, strange place to live?

Suddenly, his attention was caught by a soft glow coming from the mouth of the cave. He wriggled himself up against Mycah again and pointed.
"This must be the person who saved us..." He said.

"Good, they're home!" Mycah whispered, grinning. "Welcome home, friend! Thank you for saving us!"

The glowing paused sharply before rushing forward, as if startled by Mycah's voice. Hurried footsteps could be heard rapping up against the hard cave floor before a shadow made it's way along the wall. Finally, from seemingly nowhere, a man in a tan cloak emerged from the darkness. Long, thick, blonde curls could be seen poking out from his hood, and sparkling blue eyes gleamed against his rosy, broad smiling cheeks. He hustled over to the fire pit, laid his torch down in it and placed the bag of fire wood he had been carrying beside it, before turning towards Natsu and Mycah.

"My goodness, you've both decided to wake up while I've been gone!" He cried, giving a rather boisterous chuckle. "Poor boys, so far from home! You took quite a fall, didn't 'ya? Ah, but there's nothing that I can't handle! You're in good hands, boys!"

He bent down and quickly went to study Natsu's knee, keeping his grin while he re-bandaged it.
"Looks like you had a previous injury here, no big deal!" He chirped, wrapping the bandages tightly around Natsu's leg. "There! As good as it was?"

"Yes, thank you very much!" Natsu replied, gazing up to Mycah. He was about to comment on how wonderful the stranger was, but paused when he noticed how stunned Mycah seemed to be. "... Mycah, are you alright...?"

"Baaah, he's probably just shocked at how much wood I can carry!" The man laughed, patting Mycah upon his head. "Now, Mycah is it? How old are you?"

Mycah could only stare, his eyes seemingly blank. He was like this for several minutes before he wrapped his arms around the man.

"Father! We've found you!" He cried.

The man stared blankly at Mycah, but accepted the hug with a smile.
"Poor boy, you're so delirious!" He chuckled. "I haven't any children! What would make you think I'm your father?"

"Well, for one thing..." Natsu said. "You're wearing his gauntlets!"

The man peered at his gauntlets and blinked.
"I haven't any idea how I got these..." He said, before simply sitting down, his eyes growing distant. "... Come to think of it... I don't even know my own name..."

"Your name is Moka!" Mycah cried. "It means comforting warmth!"

The man blinked and grinned.
"Ah, speaking of warmth!" He chirped. "We should start a fire!"

"Let me help you get that started!" Natsu chirped. He wanted to see if he could distract the man long enough so his brother could get more information out of him. But, instead, the man loaded the logs on the fire and told him to sit down. However, just as the man was about to light the fire, Natsu had a bright idea.

"Let me show you a fun way to light a fire!" He exclaimed, quickly producing a few leaves from his pocket. He threw them on top of the logs and set them on fire, relishing the crackling sound that came from them. "Is that cool?" He asked the man.

This time, the man's expression went from that of pure delight, to befuddlement. He peered around the cave, looked to Natsu, and the straight to Mycah.
"Mycah... Is that you...?" He asked, his eyes brimming with tears. "Where the hell are we?!"

"FATHER! YOU REMEMBER US!" Mycah cried, lunging himself into his father's arms. "THANK THE GODS!"

---

"Are we all set to go home, now?" Natsu asked the next morning as the trio packed up the remainder of their things from the cave. He watched the two men, his brother and his father, as they chuckled and poked at each other. They, too, looked very much alike, as he and Osha did. It was funny, really, how all of this had happened. Love was a wonderfully confusing thing, wasn't it?

They walked home side by side, with Moka's arms wrapped around their shoulders. Everything seemed to be going according to plan, despite the many hiccups and accidents along the way. As such was life, as such it will always be. You can't avoid every problem you face along the way, all you can do is deal with it. However, Natsu was hopeful that his troubles were over for at least this year. He had had enough adventures for now!

But something told him that just because he had had enough adventures, doesn't mean adventures had had enough of him.

Rouge UNKNOWN?: "The Reveal"

It never usually rained in Sauti, which was odd, because it was. The down pour was quite unbelievable. Natsu, Mycah, and Moka raced through the village as the first clap of thunder blasted above their heads. The storm from Zena was heading westward and straight over Mez! They would need to get inside quickly, before they became thoroughly drenched! Natsu fell slightly behind, his leg throbbing with a sudden pain, and was scooped up by Moka as he ran past.

Never was Natsu so glad to be home in his warm, dry, tent, though his leg was certainly worsening again. He wanted to peel off the bandages again to inspect it, but his attention was caught by the squealing of his father as he was reunited with Moka. The two men sobbed, held each other close, and refused to be budged for the next twenty minutes. Natsu smiled, but sighed, his mind drifting towards his own lover. Viveka was his everything, his reason for being... He longed to be able to act as his fathers were at this time.

Then, a soft tap rapped upon his shoulder, causing him to turn. He smiled upon the face that was behind him, his brother Rastian, and was about to greet him when he was simply scooped up and brought back outside. What the hell was Rastian doing? It was pissing down with rain out here! But as the pair made their way into Rastian's tent, he figured that he wanted to chat. They had left so abruptly after the whole "Viveka is your brother" discussion, he had never had a chance to get through his feelings! He smiled, although weakly, and stretched out upon the floor he had been placed on.

"Is everything alright, Razzie?" He asked.

Rastian simply nodded and wandered to the far end of the tent. He nudged something a few times with his foot and pointed towards Natsu as it moved.
"He's here, wake up." He said, moving to exit the tent. "I'm going to leave you two alone."

The sleeping person, whom Rastian had nudged, sat up in bed and yawned. He gazed around the tent, squinted his eyes, and let out an excited squeal as he spotted Natsu lying along the floor. Instantly, he jumped to his feet and raced over to Natsu's side, smothering him in a rather passionate round of kisses.

"Oh, thank goodness you're alright!" He cried, cradling Natsu to his chest. "I thought you would be gone forever! You know it isn't wise to travel during storms!"

"Viveka?!" Natsu squeaked, welcoming every kiss he was given without a fight. His love! His everything! He was here! Oh, what a big surprise! He clung to Viveka's chest, and paused as he realized that his lover wasn't wearing his cloak, and gazed up to him rather slowly. What was he doing here? The wedding, his wedding was supposed to be two days ago! But why was he here?!

"What are you doing here? Have you missed the wedding?" He asked, his mouth held agape.

Viveka's eyes welled up with tears. He knew Natsu would question him, and he had prepared every answer ahead of time. Without a sound he stood and carried Natsu back to where he had been laying down, before settling in beside him. He heaved a sigh, snuggled his lover close, and ran his fingers through his hair.

"I haven't been home in three weeks, Natsu." He said, placing his chin on Natsu's forehead. "I will never marry Eije, not even if my father wants me to. I love you, and I've run away for you..." He paused, taking another breath. "You... You aren't mad at me... Are you...?"

Natsu bit his lip and shook his head. No, how could he be angry with Viveka? Sure, he was upset that Viveka had to decide between having a relationship with his father or having a relationship with him, but if Viveka wanted it to be this way, who was he to cast him away like a vagabond rebel? He kissed Viveka tenderly and snuggled up against him. This was his, his heart and soul, and despite the way it had been achieved, he was his forever.

"So... I see you two were more than just friends, eh?"

Viveka was the first to notice Mycah standing at the front of the tent, and his heart began to race. He looked to Natsu, to Mycah, and then to the ground before starting to cry.

"Yes, Natsu and I are in love!" He cried, giving Mycah a glare. "And I will have none of you stopping us from having our happiness! My father wasn't allowed, and neither are you!"

Mycah blinked and began to chuckle.
"I don't care about you two being partners, Viveka." He laughed, tousling both Viveka and Natsu's hair. "I only care about you two coming for dinner! We're having a FEAST! Get a move on already!"

Natsu heaved a sigh and shook his head. Of course his brother didn't care, he didn't care about anything! Why did he think any of this would disturb him?! He rolled his eyes, laughed, and turned to Viveka, his eyes growing horrified.

"Viveka! Are you okay?!" He cried, catching his lover as he fell into his arms. s**t! He fainted! He looked to Mycah and gave him a good glare.

"Look what you've done, you idiot!" He growled. "You've scared him! Now he won't be eating dinner!"

"Oh, hush, little brother." Mycah replied, rolling his eyes. "I'll bring you both a plate of food for when he wakes up. Poor thing must be so worked up over this little secret..." He snickered and kissed Natsu on the side of his head. "You're really a bugger for not speaking up before. You know I think he's adorable!"

"It wasn't really you, Mycah..." Natsu replied. "He was in an arranged marriage and... Well... You know how those go..."

Mycah made a face and nodded.
"Poor kid, I won't say another word about it." He said, wandering out of the tent again. "I'll come bring you some food. Let me know if he wakes up alright or not."

Natsu nodded and turned his attention back to Viveka, who hadn't flinched in the last minute or so. He stroked his bangs and kissed his forehead, smiling when at last, his lover's eyes opened again.

"It's alright, you can stay here..." He whispered. "No one here wants to separate us... There's no need to worry anymore, Viveka..."

Viveka smiled, a tear or two falling from his eyes, and nodded. Everything had worked out far better than he had hoped. He was allowed to stay in Mez with the love of his life and live out his days without interruption from an unwanted arranged marriage. He and Natsu could finally live happily ever after...

But as the rain fell in Mez, the snow plummeted down in Zidel. One man, holding a torch in his hand, was running around in the blizzard. His eyes were filled to the brim with tears and terror resonated from his body. He paused in his running to avoid a clump of snow that had fallen from someone's roof, and stared up at the sky.

"Has anyone seen my son?!" He cried, dashing up a nearby slope. "Viveka?! Viveka, my son! Where are you?!" He climbed continuously upwards, his voice fading into the distance. "Vivekaaaa? Please, come hooome! Vivekaaaaa?!"

Rouge Solo #7: "Plans For The Future"

Within the slightest drop of light,
You emerge in a peaceful state,
To greet another day, to wander about this way,
Could I ask for anything better?
Upon this world I venture, round this path I go,
There is nothing I dream of more,
Than your sleepy golden eyes,
Glittering like the rays of the sun.

This morning, I heard a tune,
One that I would like to sing to you.
It appeared from nowhere, as these things often do,
Without a word to it's name, it called out for you.
Sweetness and softness, kindness and praise,
Be mine forever more, it's notes convey,
I will take this sudden melody,
And make it something new.

As you lay beside me, your breath slow and minute,
I ponder upon the things that we have always longed to do.
A snowy little cottage, with a summer home to the west,
Our children growing beside Raptri and Roati, of which we will learn to breed,
Neighbors asking for favors and invitations to gatherings of cheer,
Which we, as a family, will hold through out the year.
Perhaps will grow old this way, in our dreamy little fantasy,
Your hair will turn ashen, while mine might simply fall away,
But you won't mind, and neither will I.

What of our families, I wonder as the morning rolls on,
What will become of them once we have gone?
Your father and mine are more than congenial,
And my mother simply adores you.
Perhaps a far away village won't be in the cards,
If we consider how predisposed to homesickness we are.
You chuckle and roll your eyes as I continue to worry,
Maybe our wedding will be here, as not to upset those who are older,
Like my grandfather, who cannot climb so far up hills.

Slowly, it draws closer to noon, and the usual chaos abounds,
Ogbonna is upsetting Rastian,
Rastian is upsetting himself,
And my brother has gone off hunting with the usual group.
But you and I sit still eating, wincing as either boy beside us roars.
Do you really want to stay here and live among all of this insanity?
My lip puckers and we move away, to find somewhere to eat more privately.
If we do move to the mountains, there will be far less noise to disturb us,
But... You don't seem to mind either way.

The berries that make up our mid-afternoon snack,
Become fodder for conversations of all varieties.
You want to travel west again to find more paints,
To use as color for your masterpieces.
I smile and nod, of course I agree,
We should travel to Yera and pick out a bottle or three.
Perhaps someone there would have that certain blue you need,
Or that green that reminds me of Rastian's eyes.
We share a laugh and roll our eyes,
No, a statue for our brother would likely never exist.

In the heat of the afternoon,
We decide it's time for a swim.
You become so shy about yourself,
And insist upon being ever more modest.
But with one tender kiss from me,
I've gone and set you free.
No need to be so shy about,
All that I've already seen.

I remind myself not to linger upon the water,
For the night is drawing near.
We crawl out onto the shoreline to watch the sun go down,
And your eyes capture mine.
What is it in these glowing orbs that keeps me so enraptured?
How am I that lucky man of which you've sought to capture?
The skyline turns a robust orange, much like that of my hair,
And you giggle and comment accordingly.
Perhaps we're both the lucky man upon this craggy shoreline,
Arm in arm, cuddling one another close.
You smile at me as the sun sinks below the horizon,
And we both turn for home.

Dinner is as it always is,
No one can sit still,
Mycah and Moka are in a drunken stupor,
And Rastian's temper reaches it's outer limits.
Food goes flying along with words of many strengths,
While you and I sit stiffly, praying we avoid most of what's being thrown.
But fate is often cruel and we're each doused with an array of things,
From gravy, to meat, all the way down to the dessert my mother prepared.
At the end of it all, no one is suited with a proper punishment,
For even you and I caved and tried our hand at causing chaos.
Everyone continues on as normal and heads off for bed,
Except for Rastian, who decides his hair requires washing.
We laugh as he trudges off in his usual manner,
And wander out another exit.

Our plans for the future,
I want them to take flight.
Hopes and dreams,
Among other wonderful things,
Linger within our grasp.
A question, this evening, came to me,
And spoke my deepest desires.
"Will you marry me?"
The water we swam in is lit by the moon,
It reminds me of the ring I now hold out towards you.

My dearest, my only,
You are perfect to me.
Accept this ring as my devotion,
My eternal resolution.
I will stand with you,
I will never lie nor cheat on you,
Our lives are set, the world is at our feet,
Will you say yes? Will you say yes?
Viveka, your answer is all I ask!
Make me the luckiest man on Tendaji,
Whilst I do the same for you!

Forever is sealed upon the Sauti shoreline,
Your voice screams the words I've been longing to hear,
And the ring fits you like a glove!
Our plans for the future, they will come true!
We will have our home,
We will have our adventures,
And we will grow old together in a cottage high upon Zena's hills!
But for now, we are still young,
There's still much for us to do in preparation!
Let us start by announcing our engagement,
No doubt there will be quite a rousing cry for all that we hold dear!
You and I race forward, tears in our eyes,
And shout our message out to the world.
"We are going to get married!"
"Let's celebrate!"

And just like that, Mez is alight with cheer,
Our small settlement becomes a rowdy affair.
Ogbonna runs through the town,
Rastian demands to be told such news in advance,
And my fathers begin to cry and hold us close to their sides.
Both men are beyond drunk from dinner, we discover,
There would be no partying tonight.
But there is hope for fun in the morning,
And in the weeks to come.
Our engagement party is only the beginning,
We will be celebrating our relationship for the rest of our lives.
Yes, you and I will be together,
Always and forever.
