The boy was hugging his mother in the sand at this point, dirtying himself with blood and dirt. He lifted his head to Keilana who had to his relief been following behind him the whole time. "It's my mommy. I remember now!" He was nearly choking out words through his sobs. "The kinfa got Mommy first. I ran away after Mommy fell."
He put his hands on her face, shaking her lightly. "Mommy wake up..." He rubbed his eyes and smeared himself with the mess his mother was covered in in the process. "Kei. She's not waking up. Help her... please." His lips were trembling as he looked up at Kei with pleading eyes.
The boy's mother was out cold and from the look of it and the boy's story, had been lying there for a while. But she was breathing. She could be helped.

As her gaze lifted to spot the body of the women she felt her heart rise into her throat. Was she dead? She certainly wasn't moving. Moving closer she gently though firmly moved the boy aside. So many things were moving through her head, this boy could have a life not unlike her own. Parents went out..and never came back. The biggest difference being...that he knew his mother was dead.
Her hands went to her mouth, she felt the air move back and forth and was relieved to find her alive and breathing. Though that was the only good thing...as she was covered in wounds and blood. If she thought she had it bad ...this woman had probably tired the bird out.
"Alright, I need you go not cry. Your mother is alive, but we need more of those bulbs okay? You think we can get more water bulbs for your mother?" She inquired wishing she had thought of bringing some of the things with her. Actually it would be better if she went..not the boy...what should she get him to do though? She needed to keep him busy so he wouldn't break down crying.
"Alright actually I need you to do a really important job, I need you to protect your mother. I am going to go get those bulbs." She knew that this was mostly to humor the kid but she brought her hammer down slowly and then laid it close to the where he was standing. "Stay here...and watch over her okay? You are a big boy and she needs you. So protect her...I won't be long."
It wouldn't take her long, as she stood up and jogged back to where they had been only moments before. She was glad to find that it was close by. Plucking may of the things she made her way back albiet a little more slowly. Dropping one of the bulbs...she hesitated before continuing forward.
"I am back Nehriah, I told you I would be. Were you a brave boy?"

When Keilana came back with the bulbs, Nehriah was standing near his mother, exactly where Keilana had put her hammer, his fists clenched around the handle. He wasn't nearly strong enough to move it anywhere, but the look on his face was concentrated enough to have his cheeks turning red.
He blinked up at Keilana who had come back with multiple bulbs and pulled his hands away from the hammer. "Nothing came to hurt Mommy." He said with a hmph accentuating the end. He lifted his arms in an offer to take some of the bulbs. He needed to do something for his mother.

Keilana hated to admit how..much she was growing to like the boy, if something happened to his mother she wouldn't have it in her heart to leave him with anyone else (if she managed to locate his village). Allowing him to take a bulb from her hands she went to instruct him on cleaning his mothers wounds.
She tried to show no reaction to how deep the wounds were, as she didn't want to give away her concerns to the boy, if she acted as if everything was okay then perhaps it will help him not break down crying.
"Your mother is a lucky to have such a strong little man in her life." She tried to be encouraging as she searched for a means to tie off the wounds or cover them so she wouldn't bleed out. it wasn't like she had much in the way of clothing. Slipping off her arm bands she tested how stretchy they could get and then went about using them best she was able.
She was still breathing which was good, but there was no way she was going to be able to carry her and her hammer to where ever they would need to take her to get proper treatment. She wished that Takoda was around...he was a healer...or rather a monk now and he would know how to fix her up.
Sighing she looked to where her hammer lay, obviously she wouldn't be taking it with her. "So where do you live Nehriah? Can you find your way home from here?"

Nehriah eagerly accepted the bulb from Keilana, pushing his thumb through the skin and using the water like Kei showed him. His face was serious with concentration as he carefully wiped away the drying blood and sand from his mother's body.
He watched as Keilana washed out the rest of the wounds and used pieces of her clothing to staunch the bleeding. He was too young yet to know the kind of serious condition his mother was facing. "This will make her better right? She'll wake up?"
Keilana asked him where he lived and he took a couple of steps away from his mother and Keilana where she was kneeling and looked around nearly full-circle. Could he find his way back? He tried to remember where they had come from earlier in the day before the kinfa attack. It was harder to do without any significant landmarks, but when he spotted a familiar scene he knew he could do it.
"I know the way back. This way." And he pointed his finger in the general direction of home.

Keilana knew she shouldn't soften the blow, or give false hope to the boy, but she couldn't very well tell him at the same time it was unlikely she would wake up unless they can get her to a healer and receive some proper care. A little white lie couldn't hurt though right?
"Your mother needs to see a healer, but until this she will continue to sleep." She explained though the word sleep seemed misleading and wrong for her to use. Happy although a fleeting feeling, came when the boy pointed in the direction they would need to go. She couldn't expect him to carry her hammer, but she was going to need her strength (or whatever remained of it) to carry this woman.
Looking at her though her entire body protested at the idea of trying to haul her body anywhere. The hammer had been almost too heavy for her at this moment, how could she carry a person? Though not as clever as her brother, she did share some traits as him. A make shift cart would be best....
Looking about she noticed she could probably fashion something out of leaves, and vines to rest the woman onto, a harness to wrap around herself and she could drag the woman. It wasn't as if she wanted to be treated like a work animal but...you did what you had to do.
"Help me gather some vines, we need thick strong ones." She went to where she found some winding its way around the tree. With a firm yank she managed to rip off quite a length of it. "I want you to test them by doing this." She instructed as she knew keeping the boy busy and feeling as if he was contributing was in everyone's best interest. Tugging on the vine on either end to make sure it didn't just snap , she then handed it to him.
"If it breaks its no good, but if doesn't i need you to pile them together okay?"
That was the first step, keep the boy busy. The second step was her gathering the largest leaves she could find. Unfortunately most of those were in the canopy above her. Sighing she knew she was going to hate this next part...climbing in tree's.....the last time she had been in a tree she had fallen out of it. Surprising both herself and her brother in the process.
She had to think forward though and those leaves weren't going to just come down if she yelled at them. Placing the hammer down at the base of the trunk she went to scale it, feeling foolish and knowing Chalcedony would probably laugh at her rather flailing attempt to climb a tree. Somehow though she managed it and with very careful steps yanked leaves off the branches and let them drink down to the forest floor below.
"When your done with the vines pick those up." Keilana called out to the boy as she did her very best NOT to look down.
Somehow she manged to do it. It took a lot of time and effort and creativity but she managed to make a stretcher she could harness to herself and drag the woman forward. It would mean the would have to move slowly but at least it was better than staying here. Moving she went to gently position the woman onto it, laying her hammer by her side so she wouldn't have to worry about that thing either.
Grabbing two loops she handed some to the boy and then went to put her own on. Slipping her arms through the loops she pulled them up so they rested on her shoulders and then tied one around her waist. The boy wouldn't have that one as she wanted to make sure he wouldn't get all tangled up.
"alright, now lead us back to your home."

The boy was more than happy to be of use to Keilana, though his face showing nothing but fierce concentration. He needed to help Mama, and it wouldn't get done if he was goofing around. He tugged on each vine and gathered leaves as he was told, helping Keilana make something he wasn't quite sure what the use was.
He stood back as Keilana fashioned the cart and pulled his mother onto it, gently laying her down in a secure way. Nehriah knew that she wouldn't fall out, and was almost giddy to see what the vines and leaves had come out to be. He eagerly took the vines Keilana held out to him and put them around himself the same way Keilana had been doing hers. He was going to help Mama.
At her instruction, Nehriah pointed out the direction of home and started to tug on the vines, eager to get going. He wasn't strong enough to do anything but twitch the makeshift cart, but nothing would stop him. He dug his feet into the sand and pushed, waiting for Keilana to join in. "Come one. Mama needs to get home."
The trip was long and arduous, but little by little they were making it home. The sounds of a village were growing closer and houses and huts could be seen coming out from the trees and into their line of vision. Nehriah was almost surprised that he was right in the direction they had to go.

It seemed like eons since she had left home to follow the strange sounds and. Discover a child being attacked, and despite having felt sick to her stomach that ,opening her tummy as only snarled and growled with pangs of hunger now. But she didn't have time to complain there was a child to take care of and a wounded woman. To sayshehadnt been worried that the boy was leading the away rather than towards a village would be a lie. After all the boy was young so you could hardly fault him even if he was wrong.
Relief flooded her when she heard distinct sounds of civilization.
"I need help!" She called out rather loudly hoping to catch someone....anyone's attention and bring them to her aid. She was hurt, tired and starving...the body was probably tired fro his ordeal and the woman ended serious medical treatment.
"I need a healer!" She shouted this time as she felt ever USC.e finally giving up on moving another step forward.

The boy's eyes widened at the sound of Keilana's shouting. For her to be yelling, something must definitely be wrong. He pushed an arm across his face, wiping his eyes and clearing his head. He had to be strong for Mama.
Keilana's yelling did what it had intended to do. With her calls for help came response. The people living in the village opened their doors and looked around for the source of the noise. A couple of men, Enlil included, rushed to Keilana's location, registering the body laying on the cart.
Without Keilana having to say a word, Enlil was already starting to give orders. "Quickly. We can't waste any time. You two, be careful with moving her. Take her to the infirmary. Tenkrah and Isriahn, go with them. Act as their healer until I can join you."
He looked over his shoulder long enough to make sure the men were carrying the woman gently enough and turned his attention back to Keilana and Nehriah. Nehriah was watching with hesitation as the men took his mother away. Was he supposed to follow? He grabbed hold of Keilana's shorts with his fist, waiting for her to tell him what to do next.
Enlil took note of the child, before he began to examin Keilana's wounds. "What happened here? You shouldn't be on your feet like this. Come with me." He led them both to a hut nearby, small and cozy with medical pastes and items lining the shelves, and filled a bowl with water before coming back to her. He poured a small amount of liquid from a vial into the water before using a small rag to soak and wash the wounds.

Keilana wasn't entirely sure if the boy should be with his mother at this point, rather he would probably be underfoot and in the way. The way he clung to her though she felt it wasn't right to just abandon him with the villagers even if technically he was with people he should know better.
Happy to finally be sitting though she was flinching every time the wound was dabbed and she was trying to put on a brave face. Her legs however were thrilled that she was no longer standing and every muscle just wanted to relax and quite possibly go take a long nap. Her hand reached out to fondle the young boys hair in reassurance, before she finally dared to ask in a low tone.
" I found him being g attacked by a kifna, I was overwhelmed by the sheer size of it, I guess all the rest I've ever seen were chicks...we ran and had to double back to find his mother. Tell me does he have other relatives?" It wasn't that she wanted to abandon him, but she couldn't very well just take him home either.

Enlil looked from the boy back to Keilana. Enlil himself was just visiting the area; he didn't know much about what was going on in this particular village. "I'm just visiting the area... I don't know, but I'll find out. Once I'm finished treating you and the boy I'll be leaving to check on the mother. If her condition worsens, we may have to make arrangements, though that's not something to worry about right now." He shifted his eyes back to the boy, as if signaling that the boy shouldn't know any more until they were able to figure things out.
Enlil wrapped the last of the wounds and turned to the boy. "Well then, it's your turn now. Ready to get all cleaned up?" Enlil smiled at the boy and reached behind him for the rest of his bandages and wraps.
Nehriah turned back to Keilana and raised his arms up, silently asking Keilana to hold him in her lap while Enlil worked on him.

Taking a deep breath she nodded her head, happy to have her wound treated and just a chance to sit and relax a moment. The idea of having to walk home was becoming a burden to her body and mind she felt as if she could just sit there for the rest of her life.
When it was Nehriah's turn to be treated she gave him a small smile at his upraised arms and with a slight groan shifted her position to then lift the boy up and settle him onto her lap. It ..wasn't very comfortable, but how could she deny him comfort?
"Be a brave boy, it may sting a little but it is good in the long run okay?" She coo'd unable to help herself.

Enlil smiled at the two and their apparently swift bond before picking up a towel and cleaning at Nehriah's wounds. "You're doing good. I'll be done soon. You're being very brave." He smiled at Nehriah.
Nehriah was concentrating on squirming from Enlil's cleaning. Whatever it was in the water he was using burned like alcohol, though as soon as the wound was cleaned thoroughly and bandaged, it was like it never happened. He tried to smile back at Enlil, but it came out as a little grimace and a slight moan. "Mmmfff," was all he could muster as the cleaning continued.
"It'll be over soon." Enlil tried to calm him down. For someone so small, he was doing really well. Once Enlil had finished, he cleaned out the bowl he was using and the dirty towel and turned back to Keilana. "Thank you for helping them both. I'm sure if the mother was awake she would say the same."
Enlil wiped at his brow and smiled at the young boy, producing a sweet from his pocket. "Here you go. Everyone deserves a treat when they're so brave about helping their mother." Nehriah took the sweet with glee and bounced up from his seat on Keilana's lap; starting on eating the treat as if he had forgotten the rest of the world.
Enlil looked over Keilana seriously and noticed the pale condition of her skin. She had lost a lot of blood. The water solution he had used would help with that, but she would still need to take it easy for a while. "You should rest before you even think about heading home."

Happy to see the boy content she was caught dozing off when spoken too, she was so tired it seemed her eyes would refuse to stay open. Out of sheer stubbornness she wanted to protest that she was fine and could go home right away. It was a lie of course and even as she went to open her mouth, she closed it again and leaned back in the chair she was sitting in.
"My brother will worry if I do not come home, but I think I agree that I should rest a bit before going anywhere...perhaps even eat something." Not that she was trying to mooch off the man, it was in all honesty just an observation on her part one she just happened to say out loud.
"You are not from here, but I appreciate you taking charge of the situation, I felt as if I could drop to the ground when I arrived."

Enlil patted Keilana on the shoulder. "You've been through a lot. Take a nap, have some food. I'm sure your brother will understand." He nudged her in the direction of the cot in the small hut. Apparently, this was some sort of makeshift home for Enlil while he traveled.
Little Nehriah followed in step wherever Enlil led Keilana and jumped up on the cot, ready to snuggle with Keilana. "I have to go check on the mother. Rest for now. You did really well."
He glanced over at the hammer left propped against the wall in all of the commotion. "Your strength and compassion helped you get through this situation, and with some hope, everyone will come out of it fine. I'm glad that we have someone like you to help watch over Tale."
[Keilana has been given the status of Massif!]
