Yikes!
Ivanhoth, mistakenly believing that he was in the clear, failed to notice a piece of Thread falling straight towards him. The sudden sting startled him more than it hurt him, but he went between with haste to minimize any damage.
Miiine, he complained, It stings!

For a moment, things were perfectly clear, and the day looked like it would be perfect. However, the view was soon mared by the blur of thread.
How's your flame?
I could use some more. E'lov nodded, pulling out several chunks and tossing them into his dragon's mouth to chew. Much better. The blue might not enjoy this, but he did know his duty. Back into the fray, I suppose.
E'lov patted his neck. Just a bit more love.
Then let's get this over with.

Another close call. The blue skipped out of the way of some falling thread, ducking between to keep it from striking him. This wave seemed to be thicker than the last one, and he'd have to adjust for that.

Emerath had a moment to chew another rock as the wave passed and the skies cleared. Despite her small size she wasn't anywhere near dropping out. Their training had served them well, not only in prestige, but in practice.

It had looked like they might escape unscathed today until the second wave hissed down over their heads. Emerath was still spot on with her flame, but a couple strands flew down behind them and caught the tip of her tail. Emerath squeaked and blinked between to rid herself of the parasite.

Ha! They'd made short work of that wave, hadn't they? Why, Firith could probably have done it all by herself! Well, maybe with one or two of the other dragons for support, but...just for support.
Yes, but then we'd already be tired, if we'd had to do it by ourselves. Come on, back to work!
Firith bugled happily at the sight of more Thread, eager to burn it all to ash again.

Once again, too much focus on destruction and not quite enough on dodging, and this time it was Ralla who got hit. A strand landed on her arm, and she swore and ordered her dragon between and back.
Shardit, Firith! Pay attention!

The dragons were flaming well, from his blue, to the rest, and E'lov was confident in their success. He knew better than to think that they would escape casualty free, as that was just inviting trouble, but as long as all of the dragons flew their best, things would go as they went.
Hold tight. The blue dived down, flaming at some thread that had managed to get through, catching it as it fell. Got it!

As he returned to position, he turned just in time to avoid a patch of thread, one that was quickly dealt with by one of the other dragons. That had been close as well, but at least he hadn't been hit by it.

S’dekai and Pioth // Burn Post
One wave down. For a moment the skies were clear, and Pioth soared easy, wind under his wings and the soft morning light illuminating the skies. Things were moving at a brisk pace, and S'dekai was confident that this wave would be defeated without too many injuries among the riders.
Then the next wave hit, and he urged Pioth upward once again, to flame the nearest heavy concentration of Thread. As the bronze focused on his target, S'dekai kept an eye on the other dragons around him, careful not to stray too far from the rest of the wing.

S’dekai and Pioth // Damage Post
The pair misjudged the distance, and Pioth's flame died in his throat as he realized he'd swept too close before burning the Thread. A heavy clump scored his neck badly, a stray Thread even coiling around S'dekai's arm before the bronze took them both between.
The two reappeared well below the rest of the wing, giving themselves the space of a few wing-beats to catch their breath and regroup before ascending again.

Acriculeth Agility: -2 HP: 46/58 ---------------------------------- Feeling his rider's agreement the sleek bronze shot a small jet of flame left, one to the right, and then-
Acriculeth hopped between to avoid the thick tangle, reappearing further down and rolling onto his back to shoot a jet of flame directly into the centre of it. The silver strands burned to ash and the large dragon soared up through the remnants to take his proper place in formation once more.
<Much better.>

This is very tedious. The blue grumbled, moving to burn another patch. Burn fire, destroy thread, repeat. This is hardly worth our time.

I know that too. Why do you think we are up here instead of back in our weyr. Trust me, if it was not because of duty, we would not be wasting our time with this.

D'ei. Lycath stretched, awkward shape ungangly from where he'd been lying. D'ei already started on grabbing the straps, hitching them up and onto the dragon with practiced ease. Firestone, rider on dragon, and they took to the skies with a powerful shove. D'ei felt heavy as ever in her flight gear, strapped down with the rush of wind against them.
Lycath crushed and swallowed the firestone with a hungry roar, blasting the clumps of white thread from the sky with a jet of fire.

They were not quite quick enough; while Lycath burned, D'ei did not spot the Thread hitting the tip of Lycath's tail. He snarled, playful pup of an odd looking brown gone, and they blinked between to freeze off the remaining clump.
