Maia grinned when he dodged, even if it was from being startled. Reflexes were definitely good, and when having someone try to hit you, trying to avoid it was only natural. "Good good," she called out only to give a half frown at the kick which missed her entirely.
She quickly schooled her expression and smiled, moving around, not going in for the attack just yet. She didn't doubt she would hit him, but that wasn't what this is about.
She moved toward him, "try again Thraen," she said as she got closer. This wasn't as easy as people made it look on television, but she had confidence that he could get it.

Try again? It's hardly a counterattack then, isn't it? But the pain of admitting wholly to oneself inadequacy when faced with it's looking presence on the tip of his own boots was Thraen's albatross. It was no time to dwell on complaining or self-doubt, though, and he steeled his nerves to try comply- kicking at a moving target was disappointingly different than just practicing at a stationary workout partner (or teacher). "Yes, ma'am" This time it wasn't wide, even if it wasn't very graceful, and aimed sort of at the outer thigh just under the greater trochanter prominence of one of her hips.

Maia jumped back at his much more controlled kicked, but not far enough as his kick grazed her thigh and he finally got a hit in. She smiled saying, "that was great," and continued right at him, her recover quick.
This time she threw a punch at his shoulder, opening her hand at the last moment not wanting to hit him to overly hard. He had tried harder and grasped things faster than some she had spared with and she hadn't had to faceplant him. Sparring him a bit of pain was something of a reward, it was also save her knuckles a little pain.

Recovering balance from a kick, and then trying to keep himself focussed, tracking someone as they maneuvered around was insane. How did people who liked martial arts do any of this regularly for bouts in free fighting ? Karate-Kid ridiculousness aside, he didn't envy it at all, and he couldn't quite follow or even connect weight shifts to predict the angles and choices that must be going on behind her eyes. He appreciated them, though, as the open hand to his shoulder spun him around on his heel suddenly and effectively, and he stutter-stepped to try to keep on his feet and not flop over. "Two." She could have done that and more at any time, really. She'd been generous. He nodded respectfully, once he was certain he had both his feet and his balance. "I have a lot to learn. " He took a long breath, and let it out slowly, "The more we learn the more we see we don't know. But knowing how badly of a state one is in for a combat to come is better than going into it overconfident and unprepared. " "Thank you, Maia. Really. "

Maia stopped and turned watching as he recovered himself and listened to him speak. She remember what it was like to be new and no whole like a fish out of water drowning on land. She was glad that she could help him, teach him even just a little.
She summoned her phone and held it up to scan him it, so that she would have his number. "You're very welcome. We need to stick together us senshi and the knight too. No sink or swim, there are too many of us for that now. I'm glad to help wherever I can."
She looked returned her phone back and looked to Thraen. "If you would like you can scan me into your phone and you can contact me that way if you have need. Do you know how to do that?"

"I do....You don't mind? I'm not exactly prime ally material from the point of view of useful to you yet. But I can try. " She didn't seem to mind scanning him without asking. Objecting would be foolish, but it did seem odd. Maybe higher ranks wanted to keep track of when the lower appeared out of nowhere- if they didn't, there would be no telling when someone hadn't been seen in a long time. When there was trouble. He pulled out his phone - it had all of...Athene.... entered onto it. Two 'eternal' senshi wasn't bad, was it, in the reckoning of having someone to call on if he was in trouble and about to die? The primer didn't give the impression that it was a bad idea at all. "I haven't met any knights, but I'll keep an eye out for them." He went through the sequence of buttons, focusing her into the view port and scanning her in. "If I can be of help somehow, I owe you a favour for this. And when I can, I'll still pass it forward."

"You'll find you're strength, don't worry about that. I'm glad to have you as an ally," she said watching as he used his phone to scan her in. She scanned in everyone she met, wanting to be able to keep in contact, to keep tabs and invite other to do things, like training sessions.
Maia nodded when he said he said he would keep an eye out for knight and smiled at his gratefulness. "That's really nice to hear. I have to head off for the night, finish up a patrol and get to bed. Stay safe Thraen, and practice."
She gave a wave and turned away to head off. The area felt clear of threats and if a threat appeared she could always come back. She didn't intend to go to far. "Goodnight," she said over her shoulder before she gave a jump for a tree and disappeared.

Thraen rubbed his shoulder thoughtfully, watching as she vanished from sight. She's said that she was sometimes around the University- so there was at least something of a possibility of running into her again if he 'patrolled' the area in any frequency.
He should get some ice, anyway, and he had plenty of artwork to be doing in the morning if he didn't sleep through his alarm.
He turned softly on his heel, and left into the shadows of the darkened campus himself. For hearth and home.
