"Again." He added. Not that Eva had landed him in the infirmary, but as Hunters, they saw it often. Or at least a lot of them had. He didn't recall a time when Eva was stuck there. Maybe she was just that careful.
Eva's attempt brought a smirk to Otto's face. See? Not so easy, is it?
Otto then paddled his way deeper into the water, waiting for a wave to come. When it did, Otto stood, shaky and not all that gracefully onto his board. He was certain he was going to wipe out.
But he didn't.
He rode the wave the whole way through, wobbly sinking back down to kneel on his board as he washed up beside Eva.
He was grinning devilishly.

"Wipe that smug look off your face, Puppy," She pouted, playfully splashing some water at him, "Remember that this is my first time! I'll get the hang of it--just watch!"
And then she was back on her board, paddling out once more. Okay, she could do this, no problem! She had managed to stand on her board just a few seconds ago, right? If she could do that again and manage to keep her balance this time...
Here came the wave. Shooting it a quick glance, the girl slowly and awkwardly rose up on her feet, holding her hands out in an effort to maintain her balance. When she felt the wave lift her upwards, she took a deep breathe and held it, exhaling only when she made it through and was gently drifting back to where Otto was.
Now Eva was the one grinning.

Otto did no such thing. No smirk would be wiped from his smug face. But dang. She really did it. His smirk was gone in favour of puffing his cheeks like a sore loser. "Well, ain't we pro now." He teased, "FIne, I'll one up ya. Just you wait."
He made a hand motion of 'I'm watching you' before paddling out into the open water again. However, when he caught a wave, he was no better than his last attempt, and not any better than Eva's. Wobbly, at best.
He floated back to Eva, kneeling on his board and glaring. "I never said I'd one up ya right away."

She met Otto's gesture with a grin and an innocent flutter of her fingers, watching as he paddled out in search of a wave. "Just try it! You can one-up my attempt, but then I'll just one-up yours!"
Or er, so she hoped, anyways. She watched as the blond managed to ride a wave before wading out farther into the water, giving him a light, playful bump as she walked past him. Paddling out into what she hoped would be a decent spot, she slowly pushed herself onto her feet, and--
--...and that was it. There was no wave. Frowning, the girl glanced from side to side, but it seemed that this part of the water had stilled.
"...Okay, now that is not fair." She grumbled, jutting out her bottom lip and staring at the sea crossly.

Poor Eva. No waves for you. "Yo, Eva! Yer doin' it wrong!" He teased aloud, floating out to catch a wave of his own. At least he got a wave, but once again there was a limited amount of balance to be had. Wobbly he was, but he rode that wave all the way to shore again. Regardless of their lack of finesse, Otto was having a really good time. The breeze as he rode the wave, the smell of the air. This really did feel like they had gotten away from it all. He grinned at Eva as he caught sight of her. "Havin' fun?"

The girl's cheeks visibly reddened when Otto called out to her, and she carefully turned to face him, hands on her hips as her pout deepened. "Hey! I'll have you know that this wasn't my fault--w-woaaah!"
Apparently a wave had chosen that time--a time where Eva was not standing on the board in a carefully balanced manner--to come swishing past. As a result, she found herself falling face first into the water with a loud splash, emerging a moment later sputtering and gasping. The first thing she did once she managed to catch her breath was turn and point to Otto with a mock glare, her voice taking on an overdramatic warning tone.
"Don't...you dare...say anything."
Swimming out to grab her board--which had been washed out a little farther into the water--the girl let out a heavy sigh and eyed it contemplatively. In the end, surfing definitely was a lot harder than she had expected. But maybe...just one more time, yeah?
This time, at least, the sea gave her a wave. Although her legs shook like jelly, she somehow managed to remain upright through the whole thing, letting her board drift close to where Otto and his board were.
"Phew! Okay, fine--I definitely think that I have a new respect for you, Puppy. This...is hard."

"Hard, huh? Not surfin' circles around me like you were boastin' huh?" Otto teased, leaning closer and smirking. "Soooooo basically, I win." He concluded on his own.

"Yeah, I'll admit that it was a lot tougher than I thou--..."
Trailing off, she shot Otto a wide-eyed stare before leaning forward until they were nose to nose, her lips curving into a frown. "No way! You were no surfing master either, Puppy! I'm pretty sure I practically matched you, at the very least!"

At first Otto was too distracted with supposedly winning to truly consider how close Eva was to him at that moment. "Sure, yeah, but... I still win." He murmured back, brows raised indignantly. It was then though that he noticed. Nose to nose they were. A cheek rub was one thing, but he was staring Eva right in her large blue eyes. His heart pitter pattered a little faster. He felt his cheeks redden despite the cool water dampening his face. A thought, and urge, kept repeating in his mind. <> That thought was pretty much all Tenya. Though if he were honest with himself that was what he had wanted to do anyway without some mind-leech forcing him to. Well.. they were dating, right? He'd been avoiding doing anything of the sort out of nerves to this point. The opportunity was right there, though. His heart rate not slowing at all, he took that chance. Otto leaned in that extra inch and gave Eva a soft kiss on her lips.

Nope. Noooope, he had most definitely not won! She refused to accept that! At the very least, Eva was certain that tied, considering that neither have them had done particularly wel--
And then the girl's mind went completely blank when she felt something press against her lips, the competitiveness immediately draining out of her. In fact, her legs suddenly felt a little rubbery, and she instinctively reached out to grab Otto's hand to steady herself. Although the kiss did not linger for too long, by the time the boy drew back, Eva had finally processed what had just happened.
Oh.
Oh.
Her whole face took on a rather vibrant shade of red, but she was grinning from ear to ear as she rubbed the back in her neck in an uncharacteristically shy manner. "...Okay fine, I'm content to let you win if I get more of those."

Otto was reluctant to let go of Eva's hand, even after he drew back from the kiss. His heartbeat quickened and pride swelled within his chest as she grinned and turned red. A smug smile spread over his face. "Well, I can arrange that much anytime." Any time he could kiss Eva, he was a winner. No contest required. Steadily he felt his walls come down around her. It was easy to smile, and easy to laugh. Nothing held him back from expressing himself openly as long as it was just them. He smiled widely, albeit a little bit bashful, and gave her a quick kiss on the lips once more. " All that surfin' tuckered me out though. Wanna grab some food and people watch?" Maybe they could find a nice spot that overlooked the beach and water? As corny as it was, Otto was curious to see if they could catch a sunset in this amazing place.

She leaned into the second kiss, and when they drew back, she was still wearing that almost comically large grin on her face. Eva was rather glad that Otto didn't have some kind of super hearing, because she could feel her heart racing rather erratically in her chest. That seemed to be the power that the blond held over her, whether he knew it or not.
"You bet," She chirped cheerfully at the suggestion, moving to take his hand again and head towards the shore, "Let's just relax and spend a little longer here!" She wasn't looking forward to going back to Deus Ex--and back to their duties--after this, but she was glad that they had gotten to have some fun together.
(Chara, on the other hand, sincerely wished that there was a way to shut off her link with Eva for a bit. Nothing like embarrassingly cheesy thoughts to make one extremely uncomfortable.)

"I can smell somethin' good gettin cooked in that hut over there." Otto nodded, taking his time walking with her back to shore. "I'm not in a hurry to go back." He responded softly. Not only was he having a good time, he too did not wish to return to the grim reality that awaited them at Deus. If only he could just spend all his days here with her. If only life could be so simple. Still, he would forsake a normal life again just so he could be with Eva. The surfboard was discarded by their spot they'd set aside. Sand stuck to wet skin like a magnet. One of the small irritations of swimming at the beach. "I ain't got a clue what country we're in. If we get sick from the food, I call not it at getting blamed for it."

Once Otto mentioned it, Eva was suddenly made aware of the appetizing aroma that was drifting towards them. Man, that really did smell good, and after all that (attempted) surfing, she really was pretty hungry. Wriggling her toes in the warm sand, she turned and made a face at him.
"Fine, but I'm definitely not taking the blame either! I guess we'll just have to risk it, but considering all the people getting food from that place, I'd like to think that it's safe." ...Hopefully, anyways. She had no doubt that, should they have an emergency mission the next day, Caelius wouldn't let them skip out even if they were deathly ill.
"...Maybe we should play it a little safe and avoid anything that looks too...you know."

"Sketchy?" Otto replied, already scanning the small stalls that lined the beach. "How bout that one?" He pointed to a stall selling grilled meat on a stick. "Looks super cooked n' stuff." And it smelled the best. Trust a boy to choose meat over anything with veggies. Anything soup based was out on the basis that foreign water was hit or miss.
