He frowned at that. "I don't have a thing." He said, defensively. "I was just wondering, and everyone has a idea of personal space." It wasn't like anything else.

"If you say so," Rin sounded distant as she continued to work her plant free and add it to the pile.

Then things went quiet. Melvin continued to dump dead plants into the compost pot and wondered what else to say. Things had felt a bit awkward ever since he freaked out in the men's bathroom after the pod mission. It was meant to be light-hearted and easy research to get minipets, but it hadn't gone that well. He'd been hoping to just return to the normalcy that was everyday hunter life.
"Thinking about going to a store to pick up a few things?" He asked. "Or out to a mission to get some plants?"

"Perhaps a store. You know. Start simple. Some of the most basic and dull looking plants can be the most amazing," Rin wasn't sure why it felt so awkward. Why was it so hard just to get the b*****d to open up?

"Right. Why not just go for dull and interesting all at once? Seems like you'd want to get as much done considering you'll be waiting around for them to grow." He didn't get how entertaining watching plants grow could even be. It just reminded him of measuring the grown of a bean sprout back in elementary school.

"A garden takes time Melvin," Rin turned her attention back on him. "It's like a friendship. You don't just meet someone and expect them to be everything and do everything... it grows slowly and over time you add more to it. Bit by bit. Sort of like... I don't know." She gave Melvin a worried look.

It was the look that got him. Something was wrong. He did something that changed things, and the only thing that happened was him spewing and freaking out to her when he met that green woman. Something during that time had done something, and now he felt a cold twist at knowing. He shouldn't have said a damn thing. He should have kicked her out of the bathroom and kept what little dignity he had. Now things were messed up.
"...right." He rose up. "If you got this, I'm going to sweep all the dead leaves over there." He headed to get the broom.

Rin looked doubly worried at his response and pretty much dropped what she was doing to rest her arm across her chest and look at him, "What's wrong? First you make fun of what I'm wearing and now you're acting like you're mad at me?"

He turned to her, knowing for certain something was up. "I'm not mad at you, and I wasn't making fun of your shirt. It was supposed to be a compliment. I even said so." He didn't get her either. "What's up with you? First you're close to me, and then you're talking about friendship. You don't usually sound like a Hallmark card." The tone wasn't as kind as he had hoped it would be.

"You implied my shirt was homely. How is that a compliment?" She wrinkled her nose with irritation. "I was just trying to explain plants in a way I thought maybe you'd understand. I don't know. Why are you freaking out at me?"

"I didn't call you homely, Rin. You even asked if it was a compliment, and I said it was. I said I liked what you were wearing. Just - forget it. I have no idea what's up with you." He went and snatched the broom from where he left it against the wall.

"I guess it's because it's different than the everyday when everything else gets a bit mundane. Without jackets on and just doing something like this, even this is nice." He didn't want to say he was all for her wearing baggy clothes though. "I mean I'd prefer if you wore more dresses, but I'm not saying you look homely. You'd need to wear bloodstained, torn, clothes like everyone else for me to call you that." He just kept regretting taking Saliva's advice and wished he hadn't said anything.
He held to the broom, looking at her. "Just didn't want you getting bored in here watching plants grow."

Rin got up and compleeeetely invaded Melvin's bubble as she attempted to hug him with a soft, "Thank you Melvin."

He was only expecting her to come to him, but when she continued, he tensed up. There was a flickering thought that he might want to summon his weapon, and then Rin came and hugged him. Usually this was welcomed for most people, but there were various issues involved in such a action. A hand went up and shoved Rin back as quickly as he could, eyes wide as he looked at her. It had taken him by surprise, and he acted simply on reflex.
When his ears caught up with his brain to register that she was thanking him, he quickly rushed to brush the issue off. "It's okay. You shouldn't - I'm dirty."
