Beta slept peacefully for the first night in months. So much so that she wasn't quite sure where she was when she first opened her eyes. Who should she call for? Serenity? No, this wasn't home. Haides wasn't here either. And Reth... she sure hoped he wasn't in the stable too. Only when she shook the sleep completely away did she properly recall what happened. "Cairbre..." She slowly and carefully got to her feet, grimacing as she got a kick of protest. Her turquoise eyes sleepily scanned for the glowstick stallion.

Cairbre woke with a start. For one wild moment, he wondered what on earth had called his name. It sure wasn't Dio. But a flash of realization caught him just a moment later, and with a sigh of relief he looked up to see the mare from yesterday looking at him. "Ah! Good morning, Beta. Did you sleep well?" His wings fluttered and glowed brighter, hauling himself upright.
"I should hope so," RJD said with a chuckle, coming in the front door of the stable. "You've both slept the night through. It's midmorning now.". He said it for the benefit of both, but his cyan eyes didn't leave Beta. So now he knew her name, then.

Beta nodded, smiling. "Mm-hmm. I slept wonderfully, thank you." She blinked and looked over at the other stallion that spoke. He looked a lot like Cairbre. At his announcement, she smiled sheepishly. "Oops?"

"Oops for what? I'm sure you needed the rest. you looked fairly dead last night," Dio replied with a forgiving smile. He gave his son a pointed glance. "So tell me about her?"
Cairbre cleared his throat, a little embarrassed. "Father, this is Beta. I met her out in the woods yesterday and offered her shelter. Beta, this is my father, Ronnie James Dio. Most people just call him Dio."

Beta smiled at his reply, then giggled at Dio's glance--and the resulting embarrassment in Cairbre. Her turquoise eyes sparkled with her renewed energy as she beamed at her rescuer's father. "It's nice to meet you, Dio." Her bright expression was slightly diminished by a kick courtesy of her unborn foals. She winced, instinctively leaning against Cairbre for support.

Dio laughed. "And merry meet to you as well!" He could read between the lines well enough. His boy worked fast. Not that he could blame him - his own courtship of Candii had happened just as quick, and that had turned into something lifelong and satisfying. And this girl was really quite lovely. He did hope Cairbre was ready to take care of another's foals, if he was really serious about this. And he hoped Cairbre would also be ready for the enthusiasm he would have to deal with if his mother found out. For the moment, however... "You should eat something before you start your day, my dear. If there's something in particular you want, I'm sure we can get it for you in the town."
Cairbre snorted under his breath. He just knew what was going through his father's head. Old man. He leaned back against Beta somewhat protectively. "He won't leave it alone until you do."

Beta blinked and nodded before smiling again. She giggled as Cairbre snorted, then replied to his comment as she let him "protect" her. "That's not a bad thing. With how the last few days have been, I probably would've forgot..." She turned her attention back to Dio, smiling brightly. "As long as it's edible, I'm happy to eat it." Anything here would be much better than what she'd been eating.

"Then," Dio replied with a decisive nod, "there's plenty of oats behind you in the stall bins, and there's a couple barrels of fresh apples by the door. Good clean water too." He raised an eyebrow. "What have you been eating?"
Cairbre looked at Beta. He didn't know what she wanted to tell Dio, but he had to admit, he was interested in the answer. He still didn't know much more about her, other than she needed his help. He'd also have to ask when she wanted to start out for her home. Probably soon, if she really wanted to be home when the foals dropped.

Oats and apples. Food didn't get much better than that. "Thank you very much." She blinked when Dio asked what she'd been eating. Her gaze instinctively slid away from his and leaned into Cairbre's protection. "Mostly grass," she replied meekly as she lifted her gaze back to Dio. "I ate some berries and mushrooms that I recognized, but there weren't very many..." And she wasn't going to take any chances with the ones she didn't recognize. The same went for unfamiliar plants; she wasn't going to chew on something if she didn't know what it was. She smiled at Dio. "So mostly just grass."

Dio tossed his head dramatically, as though the mere mention of grass hurt him deeply. "That's not good enough, especially for a soon-to-be-mother! I insist you eat until you're eaten everything your heart desires, and don't you dare leave before that!" He mocked-glared at the pair of them, then stalked out the door. He did have some errands to run, as much fun as it was to tease his son. And perhaps a message to send.
Cairbre laughed at his father's antics, leaning back against Beta supportively. "He means well. He's just... forceful. And not always keeping the wants of others in mind."

Beta giggled right along with Cairbre. "He's funny." And quite frankly, she probably needed a little bit of force at the moment. Despite the wonderful thought of good food like apples and oats, she was more than content just to stay by Cairbre's side. She rested her head lightly against his neck. "... Thank you, Cairbre."
