Mathias's nose twitched, his ears swiveled, and his eyes narrowed into slits. He might not have expected to find himself in the middle of an all out brawl between Halloween citizens and strange black creatures in the middle of the maul, but now that it had begun, he was going to do what he did best.

He was going to embrace it. And he was going to kick some serious arsche.

The little wolpertinger slung his shopping bag over one shoulder, and he was off. His wings folded in neatly behind him, and his large soled boots clopped against the maul floor as he moved with a fair amount of speed, closing the distance between himself and what he thought was one of the enemy.

Well, thought it until he realized it was perhaps not quite made of the same substance, and it's eyes changed color. Oh, and it appeared to be attacking some of the other black things, and it had a ghoul with it.

A ghoul that he quickly averted his eyes away from as he skidded to a halt near the two, face reddening.

"Ah, ah, ahhhh...Guten tag." He mumbled, ears almost seeming to droop as he looked down at the floor. "Do you happen to know vut is happening here?" He asked, while keeping a watch out for any more black creatures from the corner of his eye.

Almost as if they were toying with her, the shadowlings decided to switch their approach for a bit, two of them latching onto Yvette's leg as if it was a tasty and succulent steak and biting down hard enough to draw blood. The brief flash of pain drew the red panda monster's attention immediately, the corner of her mouth twitching at the sight as soon as she could spare a moment to glance down at the source of the pain.

Unholy crap! These little shits would dare to bare their fangs against her? In a fit of anger, Yvette aimed a kick at one of them to send it flying, the other spared for now as it thankfully had the insight and intelligence to go along with it to realize the folly of its action and make an escape while it still could.

Trouble neutralized for the time being, she slid her gaze over to the wolpertinger whom she hadn't even noticed was there until he addressed both the sand boil and herself. "I'm afraid not. Doubt it's one of those surprise events organized by The Maul per se though I can say that this is quickly turning out into not a very good day for most of us here." She cast her gaze to their immediate vicinity, her tail flicking impatiently behind her as she took in the sight of yet another wave of shadowlings heading their way. "Heads up..."

He glanced up enough to see the images that appeared and disappeared above the sand boils head so quickly that he could barely keep up, and while he fancied himself a pro with puzzles, this is one that he could not decipher.

The ghouls voice, however, broke his gaze. The siren song of her sweet ghoulish tone had his head tilting towards her, but he fought against the urge and looked resolutely back down towards the floor.

"I-I see." His voice was beginning to sound just slightly strained, and the ghouls command of "heads up" was quickly followed, his ears pricking upwards and swiveling with his eyes towards the upcoming masses of black that moved towards them.

"Do not vorry, I vill handle." He nodded, again keeping his gaze completely averted away from the ghoul. Chances are if he looked at her, his fighting spirit would completely vanish, and right now he needed that spirit, damnit.

He was about to take a step forward, brandishing his shopping bag by swinging it like a mace, when a new arrival barreled his...her...it's way onto the scene.

Thankfully he didn't seem to have any issues with androgynous beings.

Wings twitching behind him in irritation, he bit back the angry reply that he had in store for the vine haired one, and instead focused on swinging his bag out to pummel one of the black creatures with.

Now quivering with misplaced rage, Van leaped onto the top of the bench and crouched there, baring his teeth at the lion. "I'm not crying!" he yelled. He clearly was, by this point, his cheeks damp. "And how the hell should I know?!" he straightened up, still standing on the top of the bench, balanced on the worn soles of his canvas hightops. "They don't have a regular smell," he lamented, sniffing the air. He'd stopped actively crying, though his cheeks were still damp and his eyes glistened. If he was a real Devil's Dandy Dog, the water would have evaporated by now; he couldn't help but think that, as he surveyed the chaos.

He'd be no help in fighting, not right now, but it looked like the prissy lion-man was at least attempting to swat some away from his precious goods. "You don't have any food in there by any chance, do you? Some biscuits, maybe? Or some jerky?" Van's stomach grumbled, as his tail flicked back and forth.

Van's attention span was clearly shot. "Uh-oh. Hey, miss priss, let's go over there! I think I can help!" Having said this, Van scooped up a bunch of the more crushed bags, and booked it off towards the fray. He couldn't help but think, as he ran:

LOOK HOW HELPFUL I'M BEING!!

And he ran straight over to a winged boil who had barely taken any damage, to test the notion that he might actually have an ability to use. The pup skidded to a halt just next to the boil, and grinned widely, his tail lashing back and forth. "Hey! If you'll just let me, uh, one second, I think I can--" Van rambled, leaning in and then trying to concentrate, his brows furrowed, hands stretched out to the boil as if he was going to grope him.

He had shut both eyes, focusing, the tip of his tongue sticking out, and he opened one eye as if to see if it had worked. "Wicked! Hey, Miss Priss, look what I did!" he called back at a lion boil, thoroughly pleased with himself.

I just realized this was the wrong dice WHOOPS

"That's the spirit!" it chirped as Mathias smacked a few around. Again Touchstone ran into the fray with a bark of laughter, only to be bounced back once more as it dodged around with a strange fluidity. Damn beasties, ohoho! Good thing some of them had healing abilities, though, it looked like they were going to need some . . . "Keep on guard, mate," it told the demon with a wink.

It pulled its hat back from one of the shadowlings and dusted it off, turning its head as a ghoul screeched at the things. "That's also the spirit!" it called with a grin. "Get angry, ghoulie, that's the way!" And another one came in with - oh dude, a bat! "You gonna use that or can I borrow it?" it asked congenially as it bounced away from another shadow.

ALL THESE NEW FRIENDS!! There were little black sand hearts popping up around Sand's head, he was so happy! But--but--they were getting hurt! The sand boil put his best game face on, snorting out little dusts of sands from his nostrils--and CHARGEDDDD!

His head went down, aiming to headbutt one of the creatures--and he actually managed!! The sand boil straightened after he destroyed the tiny boss (teennnny tiny, one little guy) and started doing a victory dance. Tiny fireworks of black sand exploded over his head as he pumped his fists in the air.

VICTORY!!

Kari was becoming frustrated, she knew. Her repeated failures in landing a hit were weighing upon her. The ghoul eyed the mass of shadowlings with disdain, once again leaping into the fray to engage them.

She barely had a moment to register another ghoul racing towards her at a frightening pace.

Kari barely managed to dodge and catch the passing ghoul's arm to stop her momentum, but the chance to attack was lost. Kari turned to where the black mass had been only to see empty street. Her rage spent in the endeavor, she turned back to survey at her surprise assailant. By the look on her face, it had apparently been an accident.

"Are... you okay? What exactly happened there?", Kari asked, her eyebrow cocked in confusion.
