Rep didn't step in at all, there was no chance as far as he was concerned of a polar bear managing to shatter the very formidable barrier of a fear shield without a great deal of effort. Melvin was fine, and he just crossed his arms and observed.
"Don't be a pansy!" he yelled in what he hoped was a motivational fashion. How did you even motivate a terrified coward anyway?

PANSY! How was holding a polar bear and asking for help even remotely close to being a pansy! THERE WAS A POLAR BEAR TRYING TO BITE HIS FACE OFF!!
"REP YOU ASSHO-" And then the weight was coming down on him. The bear was heavy as hell, and with it's paws trying to crash against his shield and then hold his body. All the while, Smokey's Cousin tried to bring it's maw to bite his head, which was a very odd sensation considering he could feel it's terribly breath on him and yet he wasn't bleeding from any bite wounds. All he heard was growing and teeth and Rep. The blood was pounding in his ears at this point like standing in front of speakers in a club.
With the bear on him, he couldn't even point the gun properly as he pressed both hands up against the body just to keep the bear's face away from his and get some room to breath and adjust his gun again.
Rep was the worst friend ever. The worst!!!! gonk

Rep couldn't help it, the absolute genuine terror and maiden-like peril just cracked him up. He laughed and then he laughed some more.
"It's just a wee bear!"

"THIS AIN'T NO WEE BEAR!" He couldn't get this damn bear off of him. It was crushing all his organs and bones, he was sure of it. His body felt numb but at the same time spiking with pain, and worst off, he couldn't even get a shot in. His gun and hands were pressing into the furry folds of the bear's neck, taking in deep lungfuls of hot, animals breath, and feeling the cold seep into his back as he tried to do anything to get enough space to shoot.
Why wouldn't Rep just walk over and hit it! IT WAS RIGHT THERE!!!
He might hit you.
The Lifer's eyes went wide as he almost froze at the thought, before the bear dipped down to try and bite his neck again.

Rep wiped away a tear that froze on his finger as he composed himself. It was about the best thing he'd gotten to watch in weeks.
"Melvin-kun!" he joked, trying to keep a straight face. "Reach within and find your kokoro!"

Kokoro??!! All he had was runic bandages!!
"I DON'T EVEN HAVE THAT?!" He called out, hoping that whatever device Rep was talking about to give him an edge would be given to him. ANYTHING to get this bear off of him.
Just then the bear moved up to throw it's weight down. Both hands snapped to steady Melvin's aim and shot it straight in the neck. The weight of the bear collided into him, shifted with a grown, and stilled.
Melvin, however, was under said bear.

Dakota grinned over at Stormy, waving at her and cupping his hands around his mouth. "I'll take a rain check Stormy, I'm on a mission for HEAT. But maybe we can find each other later and share some body heat to unthaw?" He was joking...
Sort of....
Plus Gale was over there and while he had nothing MUCH against the hunter, he didn't much get along with the stuck up types. Like Ami. Ami was pretty stuck up. Oh well, couldn't get along with everyone.
Instead he ventured farther into the room, spotting a door that led farther into the base...in fact it led right back into the center building and right into the Lab.
He wasn't much a lab man but damn, with cold air blasting in the holes riddling the wall, the equipment was practically useless. Even touching it seemed like it would break from cold brittleness.
Further inspection led him to doors that would lead farther down...had they not been packed with frozen snow walls. He pulled Chama out, touching the fire blade to it and frowned as she barely made a dent in the snow wall.
Dakota sighed. As of now, he was practically useless in finding the generators. It'd be better if he could, it'd help with his search and rescue training after all.

As the bear went down - the way he'd known it would- Rep wandered over to the stilled animal, seized a massive paw and dragged, pulling it off of Melvin as if it's enormous weight was nothing much at all.
"See? Just a wee bear." he said

When the weight finally came off, Melvin was left looking wrinkled, disheveled, and with his glasses askew. Panting, he just laid there staring up at Rep before slowly sitting up, checking himself for any missing bite-sized chunks from his body, and then looking at the mess of blood straining his clothes. He just bought the jacket too.
He didn't know what he wanted to do first, his emotions all over the place, before he held his body, leaned forward, and breathed out. "I thought I was going to die." He whined. He thought stray dogs were terrifying. An entire polar bear had been on him and he was still in one piece. How was that even possible??! It had been chewing on his head.
Reaching up with one shaking hand, he frowned when he noticed part of his pristine hair now had a sort of slobbery cowlick.
Disgusted, he looked over at the bear. "Is it dead?"

"Well you didn't die." Rep said with a pleased grin, adjusting his goggles. For a sun that was about the central game plan. Other divisions had things to do, their entire job was just not dying. Melvin was practically an honorary sun for the day after that little demonstration of manliness.
He poked the bear with a spiked boot - carefully, he didn't want to damage it any further - before stating. "It's totally dead. You just like, wrestled a bear. So much for no being able to fight."

The damage to the bear was set around it's neck, dotted with holes. Luckily it was a thick animal and the shots didn't go through the other side, but there were still holes. Clean shots were still something Melvin hadn't perfected, especially in situations where he was panicing just to save his own hide.
Looking at the bear, he almost felt bad. It was a real animal, not one of the creatures made of Fear. Unlike those unnatural things, this was a living animal and a very beautiful one at that.
Then Melvin remembered that it tried to kill him and said beautiful animal just spilled all it's neck blood on his clothes. After that, he wasn't as enamored with the big bear as before. It was still starting to see one, especially this close. Was this how hunters felt when they shot down a moose or a lion? Then again, they actually used skill to hunt and didn't let their own bodies be used as bait.
Good work! See! You can kill stuff too.
He continued to stare at the bear, still feeling shaken up. "I wouldn't call what I did fighting. You fight. I just freaked out and shot like a crazy person." All the Sun's had a degree of power, skill, and a blind confidence to hit where they wanted and with great force. He just got attacked and hit anywhere. If he was smart, he would have went for the lungs, heart, or head, but instead he just panicked.
Despite this, a hand slowly went up to cover his mouth, not sure why but finding a dumb smile spreading over his face. It hurt considering how cold it was in the room - but the fact remained. He just killed a bear.

"Want to know a secret? That's pretty much what most Suns do. Freak the ******** out and flail like a crazy person. You do it enough, your weapon makes it look as if you've got a ******** clue what you are doing. I let Tracey do most of the thinking." It was why it was often so hard to stop, so hard to keep human and logical thoughts at the forefront of his mind. He figured that was why they said suns had some of the closest bonds with their weapons, they had to. The human mind got in the way, became a rug to trip over in the living room of battle.
Stooping down, he eyed Melvin and then the bear, hefting it up to look it over, the damage was minimal, nothing that couldn't be stitched shut with a needle and some thread. He fished in the extra pockets he wore for a very sharp flip knife, holding it up obligingly. "How about.. I skin it for you? Shame to waste it man. Like a sort of trophy. You ain't ever felt a fur rug or throw like this stuff."

"Not a secret Rep...." Dakota had turned on the headset as he wandered away from the lab, listening for any of the others hunters mutterings on the areas they were looking at. When he had heard the Scots voice, he couldn't help but zone in on what he said and grin. "It's pretty much common knowledge that Suns flail on just about all the things they do...Especially the bedroom. Be careful with that one Melvin, or He'll let his weapon have its way with you..." Dakota hesitated, "That's a joke by the way...So don't get all brrrrrr up your a** Rep." Its like Dakota was anticpating the Sun's angry retort.
"I just hit up two buildings, Lab and some outbuilding. All I've seen so far is snow and snow and snow...
Oh and by the way...Snow."
Oh hey what was this? Tracks? Dakota hissed as he knelt down, touching the imprints in the snow. Not human of course, bigger. Yeti probably. Whatever Rep was on about Yetis, this would probably be a good time to check one out. Frowning, he followed after the tracks and right into...
"Oh holy s**t Rep, Why didn't you tell me ******** Yeti's were huge."

Melvin looked over at the bear as he slowly stood up, holding the wall and feeling a bit weak in the knees. "Um..okay. Just...don't start until I'm away from it." He was already disgusting and feeling a bit queasy that seeing some great bear dissected wasn't really what he wanted to be seeing right now. "You can do whatever else you want to it. I know you like bones." If Rep wanted another polar bear skull, then have at it.
It was just then that he heard Dakota pipe up that Melvin went rigid and then covered his mouth. Oh s**t! He forgot they were all wearing headsets. Did....did everyone hear everything he just said?!!! EEEHHHH!!!
O//n//O
Trying to regain some dignity, he gave a shaky reply. "You sound like you've had some experience with flailing Sun weapons." He retorted before he heard the news about a yeti near the base.
"Where are you?" If Dakota needed backup, he wanted to be there to insure he stayed alive.
