"Just with you," T'rel said, grinning at his friend. "I imagine several sevendays wouldn't be enough time to discover every secret this island has to offer." He slipped his hand from hers and instead wrapped his arm loosely around her waist. "Come on," he said. "Who knows when we'll next have the free time to explore together?" It had been a long time since they'd been able to be alone together, he realized. Turns, really. With keeping R'yn and T'nus happy as well as ensuring the safety and relative happiness of the current weyrlings, he had had less and less time to spend with his friends.

Maybe he could fix this. Maybe he could send the weyrlings off on extra chores once a sevenday. Maybe he could disagree with T'nus more often; would that make the Weyrsecond leave him alone? He doubted it.

"You should always expect great things, Cesa!" T'rel exclaimed as he led her to the river. "You never know what you might find. There's always something good to see in a new place. Something fun to do. Something exciting to see. An adventure to be had." He lowered his voice, "You never know when a sea dragon takes residence in the river!" he gave a teasing shudder. "Ionan told me you can't see them, you see. So you never know."

Letting out a thoughtful hum, Cesa soon descended into light laughter. "Well, I don't know about several sevendays," she mused for a moment, turning her head to look up at T'rel with a grin. "I only really pushed for us to be off drills today. I don't think even if I did try bribing R'yn with pies that I would manage to get several sevendays off." Cesa managed a slight smile at the rider's enthusiasm. She was well aware that T'rel had less time to spend doing what he liked. She supposed as a rider she did too, but T'rel had to be a rider and the Weyrlingmaster. Cesa couldn't blame her friend for not having the candlemarks in the day to visit her like he used to. She would rather see him less often than T'rel go stretching himself over too many things. As long as he was happy, she was happy for him.

"Aren't sea dragons supposed to be the same size as regular dragons?" They were a myth, she was certain, but the stories she had always been told were that sea dragons were just as big as the real ones. "Wouldn't it be too big for a river?" There was a long pause as Cesa raised an eyebrow at Ionan's apparent claim. You couldn't see them? She wondered as they approached the river. "Why can't you see them?" she asked at last. Curiosity crept into Cesa's tone as she looked up at T'rel, as if expecting him to know somehow.

"Maybe several sevendays of pies would convince him."

"Because they're--" T'rel paused, seeming to struggle with a proper reason for someone to be unable to see the river dragons. "Invibible. Invidible. ...That's not it. They're invisible!" It was an unusual thing, for the bronzerider to struggle with words. Something must have been troubling him. "Maybe they can change sizes too," he added, as an afterthought, in response to Cesa's previous question. "They're not at all like our dragons. They don't have riders, you know. Or maybe they do. No one's ever been able to catch one to ask. I wonder if they have Weyrs? And if they do, are they run the same way? Are greenriders the queens and golds the greens? Are blues weyrleaders?" He gave another pause, this time in thought.

"It'd be a nice place to visit," he mused, "But I don't know if I'd want to stay there." He hated swimming. The very idea of a prolonged any experience under water made him shudder. "I suppose they'd feel the same way about our Weyrs."
PostPosted: Sat Mar 09, 2013 9:58 pm

Raising an eyebrow, Cesa looked skeptical. "Let's just remember who has to bake all these pies. Hm?" It would be no good if the task she had to complete to get all of this free time just ended up eating all of the free time itself. She'd have to spend all the sevendays she gained off, making more pies for the next sevenday. It'd be a never-ending loop. One that Cesa didn't really want to get into.

The greenrider bit down on her lower lip and smiled awkwardly, trying to keep in her laughter as T'rel tripped over his words. It was cute to her, but she very much doubted that T'rel would appreciate her giggling at it. Or using cute to describe it. All the men that Cesa knew seemed to have a dislike of the word cute and loathed having it related to themselves in any way.

However, her struggle continued as the bronzerider came up with excuses and theories about seadragons. Some of it seemed rather matter-of-fact, but she was sure other parts he was just making up as he went along. It was the little push she needed though when the idea of visiting them or the seadragons visiting them came up. Laughter bubbled up and Cesa could stop the happy sound from escaping, even if she wanted to.

"Alright, so they're invisible." She gave T'rel a light and playful nudge with her elbow as she grinned up at him. "We'll have to look extra hard to find one. Just so you can ask how everything works for them." The laughter in her voice didn't fade, she'd go along with this idea however long it lasted. It was fun.

"Well, there's only one way to really find them," T'rel mused aloud, before playfully shoving Cesa towards the water. "Swim!" Rivers and creeks were what the former harper had been taught to swim in. He'd been told that made swimming more difficult; but he hadn't found that to be the case. The river here was shallow and calm; there was no chance of losing Cesa in the current.

They were far enough inland, too, so he wouldn't have to fret about her being swept off into a strong current and carried to the ocean. He hadn't thought long enough on this subject to have considered the fact that it might have taken several days for anything to be carried to the ocean. The fear was there, but he kept quiet on that matter. "Did you find any?" he asked.

He walked to the river's edge and knelt. "Hm...No invisible creatures here," he mused. "Unless they're tiny and you've squashed them. Poor little seadragons..."

That was not what she had been expecting, not even close. Really Cesa hadn't been expecting anything to happen, but being pushed was rather firmly on the list of things that she did not expect to happen. So when it did, she was very much taken by surprise. Letting out a surprised yelp Cesa fell toward the water, the basket slipping from her fingers and landing on the bank as she tried her best to regain her balance.

Her best was not good enough she learned as she plunged into the river. Cesa had a short moment to take a breath before the water closed over her head. Luckily the water wasn't that cold, so it wasn't much of a shock to her system and Cesa was hardly a stranger to water. A short roll in the water and she kicked off the bottom, once again being reunited with air.

Cesa turned her head to T'rel at his question and pulled a face, though the effect was somewhat lessened by her long black hair covering part of her face. "No, surprisingly enough I did not," she said, with a hint of sarcasm as she pushed her hair back from her face. She moved to the edge of the water and looked up at her fellow rider. Her brow shot up at the idea she'd squashed them. "Are you calling me fat?" Cesa however did not give T'rel anytime to answer the question. Instead she pushed herself out of the water slightly and grabbed his shirt, yanking the bronzerider toward the water. Two could play at this game.

"No?" T'rel sounded disappointed. Whether it was an act or he had actually believed Cesa would find one in the river was anyone's guess. "Oh well. Perhaps they're still lurking in the depths of the ocean, where they know I can't find them." He hesitated, frowning slightly. She was accusing him of calling her names? He couldn't remember ever having done so. "No, Cesa," he explained. "I was calling them small. I would never--"

He was caught off guard when she yanked him into the water, mid-sentence as he was. He fell in with a splash, and when he did resurface, he gaped at her. "Well, that wasn't very ladylike," he said. "But no, you're right. No seadragons here. We'll have to tell Ionan, won't he be disappointed." He splashed her. "That'll show you!"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 11, 2013 4:16 pm

Looking over her shoulder, Cesa couldn't help but smirk. "What, in all the time you've known me, convinced you I was ladylike?" She wasn't really ladylike, but then she had no real reason to be. It wasn't that Cesa purposely tried to be unladylike and she was a far cry from boyish. The woman certainly wasn't lacking in the sense of being feminine, but when it came to the prim and proper way of being a lady she didn't quiet hit the mark.

"Well, they are seadragons and this is not the sea. I'm sure he won't mind that they weren't here in particular." After all, searching for seadragons in a river was a little silly. The clue was in the name. It was a little like looking for a jungle feline at the top of a mountain. Only you also wouldn't know what the feline looked like when you went looking, or if they even existed.

Cesa closed her eyes and drew back slightly as T'rel splashed at her. Oh, so it was going to be like that was it then? Well, let it be known for the record that he started it. "Will it now?" Cesa challenged, swiping her arm across the surface of the water to send her own splash toward him.

"You're right, I must have been thinking about Ticene," T'rel returned her smirk. The Weyrwoman could hardly be considered ladylike, at least by Cesa's definition. "He might," he muttered in response to her next comment. "You never know with Ionan." He grinned and sent another wave in her direction. "We can search for them in the surf," he said. He climbed out of the water, smirking down at her. "Well?" He asked, offering her his hand.

"Let's dry off," he said, before grinning again. "With a dance." There was a pause in which he added, "Because we never got to at the gather. Unless you'd rather lay in the sun to dry off." He shrugged.

He figured Cesa's would prefer to dance; and so with his free hand, he began to wring out his hair.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 13, 2013 2:01 pm

A confused frown took over Cesa's features as she let out a skeptical 'mmhm' sound. Tic wasn't all that ladylike either. True, she presented herself that way, but Cesa had known her long enough now to know the course young woman that was at the heart of that image. She knew T'rel knew of it too. He had met Ticene back when she was all scuffs and dirt. She wouldn't argue the Ionan point, T'rel was his brother, he was bound to know better than Cesa what his reaction was likely to be.

"What's this? T'rel of bronze Zelith actually choosing to go somewhere near the ocean of his own free will?" Cesa feigned shock and awe at the idea. T'rel always seemed to be dragging his heels about going near the sea. To hear him suggest that they go in it was rather surprising. "Hmm, I dunno, I'm already wet now." Why bother getting out? She pushed out a bit further away from the shore, drifting away from T'rel's hand. Cesa liked being in water and she had a suspicion that T'rel might find a way to dodge out of going in the sea as he earlier suggested.

Cesa raised an eyebrow at his suggestion. A dance? Now? Even with his explanation the expression didn't fade. "Dance to what?" she queried. Cesa did love to dance and she assumed that was why T'rel suggested it, but usually the want was brought on by music being around her. She'd danced in silence before, that was true enough, but nobody usually asked to do that first.

"To the song our hearts are singing as they beat in harmony," T'rel said, ignoring her expression pointedly. "To the music nature's playing for us. The sounds of moving water. The breeze moving branches of nearby trees. Don't you feel it, Cesa? There's music everywhere." He reached his hand out to her again, dangerously close to the river's edge. He noticed this when he almost lost his balance and tumbled in. He took a step back. "Come on, Cesa," he said. "Let's dance."

He wanted to make up for being unable to dance with her at the gather. He had looked forward to dancing with her that day, only to have been distracted by multiple things; Lute accusing him of causing--he wasn't even sure; he had been too upset, A'relien's prank, Thread. He wanted to hold her, as he had in dances before. Those friendly dances that happened during gathers and feasts--he missed that.

"After, let's explore. I saw a cave off that way," he pointed west. "Maybe there's a wild wher. We could take it back for T'nus to see. Do you think it'd scare him?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 13, 2013 2:41 pm

Okay, what was that? Only a harper was capable of going off on to... well, whatever that was. In all honesty Cesa wasn't sure. The greenrider moved forward sharply when T'rel almost lost his balance. She had better get out before he went and fell in; Cesa preferred the idea that the only falling in he'd do would be her fault. Reaching up she took his hand and let her friend help her out of the water. "Gotta say, if that's your latest way of sweet-talking your way out of trouble with Lute, it's a tad over the top," Cesa said as she leaned over and wrung out her long black hair. Then again, maybe harper girls liked all that sort of thing. Cesa thought it belonged best in a harpertale and those often proved not to be accurate representations of life.

Looking in the direction T'rel pointed Cesa wondered how many more strange activities they would end up doing today. She was beginning to think she should have worn some more heavy duty clothing and plaited her hair to keep it out of the way. Turning sharply she stared at T'rel. "You want to actively go looking for wild whers?" There had been the odd wher take up residence in some of the coves near Ista in her lifetime and from what she had heard, they were never something you wanted to go looking for. "Mmhm and you're telling me you wouldn't be? Better yet, how do you plan to get this wher back to the Weyr?"

"No, that one was for you," T'rel said with a shake of the head. "Over the top, hm? Maybe I should take lessons from R'yn. He's got that one about firelizards and being impressed... I don't know how it goes..." This was awkward. He'd just admitted to his closest friend in the Weyr that his line had been for her--and she didn't like it. That made it even more awkward. "You didn't like it then?" he asked, tilting his head slightly. "What kind of lines do you like, Cesa? So I have one to scare off any suitors at the next gather."

"No, you're right," he agreed. "I don't want to meet up with a wher. But we'll go see?" He took her hand hopefully. "One time R'yn and Ticene find a cave full of rainbows," he said. "Er. Crystals that made rainbows in the sun. He told me they're like--" he struggled to explain, "Like shadows. You can't touch them." Not that he hoped to have such luck. He was sure R'yn hadn't found that cove on his own. It was probably some old Weyrbrat knowledge.

"Maybe a firelizard or two," he pondered.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 13, 2013 4:08 pm

"Me?" Why would it be for her? Perhaps T'rel didn't understand what those kind of lines were actually for. Cesa wasn't certain though. He flirted a fair amount, but she was sure that the majority of the time, if not all the time there was nothing to it. After all, T'rel was hardly in the kind of situation where he could go courting. "I can't see R'yn being too much help, this is the guy who believed you when you told him that he was allergic to Tic." She couldn't say she would really count R'yn among the most accomplished flirters in the Weyr.

"Why this sudden interest in lines anyway? You in trouble or something, 'cause trust me, if she's mad at you lines won't help." Maybe they'd had an argument and that was what T'rel wanted to know about lines for. Maybe he just didn't want to come out and say it. "Lines don't scare off other 'suitors'," she replied, stressing the word that she would not have used. Who said suitors? "Besides, you leave any suitors I might get alone. Some of us are in a position where having someone interested in us might be nice." That was a small lie, Cesa didn't actually want someone to start courting her. There was a whole other mess she didn't want getting started. She suspected T'rel might already know this, given that she tended to politely deflect most men who made advances on her.

Cesa rolled her eyes and shook her head, but eventually gave in. "Alright, we'll go have a look." He seemed so set on investigating, she hoped there was actually something worthwhile in there for him. It'd be a shame if he were that enthusiastic only for him to find nothing. "Hm, maybe." Oh Faranth, let there be something in that cave. Hopefully not something as dangerous as a wild wher.

"Yeah, you," T'rel said. "You're my best friend, Cesa. I'd give you line after line just to make you smile," He flashed her a smile, giving her hand a squeeze. "I'd swallow tubers whole, if that'd make you happy." He gave a shudder at the thought. "I wouldn't do that more than once," he said. "I'd never get rid of the taste. But you know, Cesa? It'd be worth it. A lifetime of--terrible tuber taste for a day of Cesa happiness." He hesitated, wrinkling his nose. "I hope you never ask," he said. "I don't know if I could forgive you."

He considered her words, pulling her close. "Hmm..." he muttered, starting to lead her in a simple dance. "You've never seemed to like it when they come 'calling," he said. "Unless you have a man somewhere at Benden." He didn't think he liked that idea. He hoped she would have told him, if she had started a family there. Wouldn't she have stayed with them? Wouldn't they have come with her?

"Or are you still seeing R'cen?" a scowl crossed his features--he certainly didn't like that idea. He seemed to have forgotten that Cesa had told him before that she wasn't seeing the brownrider several times before. That didn't matter, it seemed, as he led her in the dance. He fell silent for a long moment, and then began to hum Sunset's Gold. He moved his lips to her ear.

"Do you hear it now?" he whispered. "I told you, they're playing for you."
