Beginnings of a Letter - [1093 words]

Leonora had kept her signet ring since she got it. However, she hadn't really gotten a chance to try it yet. For beings as magical as they were, it felt kind of archaic for them to need to send written letters to correspond with people. She knew that she could and would have better information if she just sought out another knight, but it just wasn't at the top of her list.

Her co-workers had noticed that she had acquired a new ring. At first glance, they wondered how she managed to hide her boyfriend, or supposedly fiance, for so long. There was a lot of cackling when they noticed it was just a ring. To them, it didn't look special at all. Leonora wished she could share her secrets with them, but sadly, she didn't know if any of them had an alter-ego like she did.

While she was at work, both the signet ring and her page ring stayed locked up in her personal drawer. It was always in the room with her even if they were not physically on her body. There was some anxiety having to take them off, but Leonora knew she could not do her job properly if she were to keep them on. It would definitely cause more pain to her clients than help. Plus the fact that the lotions she used could tarnish the rings. Magical or not, Leonor was not willing to try.

Leonora had some down time between clients so decided to take a piece of paper and a nice felt tip pen. This was a good enough time as ever to practice her penmanship. Flipping through her phone, she Googled some calligraphy for beginners that looked easy enough and began her letter.

To...

"Wait..." Was she supposed to write the civilian name on this, or should she stick to powered? She was not powered at the moment so if she wrote the powered name, people could deduce that Leonora knew them powered. But if it were written to her civilian name and someone got sent to the wrong person... That would definitely be a dilemma. "Okay I think I'll just do something else..."

Instead of writing a name, Leonora just drew a mask where a name should be. That should at least be harder for people to figure out. Honestly, it sounded fun so she was going to go the dorky route on her letter.

To... [mask drawing here]

Words can not express my gratitude to you. I thank you for coming with me to my [insert house image here] to try some of my [insert cookie drawing here] and [insert macaron drawing here]. I hope you enjoyed them! I bake quite frequently, would there be any flavors you'd like to request? What's your [insert hearts drawing here]?

Leonora looked at the beginnings of her letter. If she didn't know she wrote it, it kind of looked like something a teenager would do. She hoped that it wouldn't make her seem immature, but something cute and fun for her friend to read.

I can also give free massage sessions if you'd like! I could even come to your house!

"That sounds a little desperate, don't you think?" She was just thinking to herself, but it seemed very much true. Leonora wanted to just scratch off that part but the rest of it looked so cute! Most of the page hadn't been used yet, so Leonora decided to send more than one piece of paper as her letter. She cut off the bit she didn't like and ended up with a four inch by 6 inch area of the one she did.

"Perfect!" Leonora said aloud. Her co-workers looked at her all weird, but she was quick to shush them. "Don't worry about it." She stuck out her tongue at them and continued on a new piece of paper. This time, she cut the paper in half and then trimmed the new two to the same size as the original. The first, finished one, she put aside and went on to the second.

I hope this [insert envelope drawing] gets to you well. I also hope that school is treating you well and you are not too stressed out. This is a test, but I'm also sending a small [insert macaron drawing] to you to help [insert shiny sun drawing] your day. I hope that next [insert clock drawing] we meet up I'll have a lot more and I can finally meet your [insert dog drawing]!

The ink was drying nicely on both pieces of paper and she was proud of the little drawings she had done. Leonora debated showing the drawings to her co-workers, bu she didn't really want to explain what everything meant. Oh well, she'd just have to wait until Candice got it and see what she thought of i later. There was still that issue of her not knowing how to use her signet ring as well.

Leonora decided to draw a border around both of the texts and pictures. There were swirls and stars and flowers. She was surprised at how elegant it all looked. She was a creative person with jewelry but this had been one of the few times she tried to do calligraphy. It was kind of fun and she was debating taking some local classes.

She looked at the time on her phone. "Okay I have time for one more... Maybe a serious one this time." Leonora first went and copied the border she had done on the other two and let it dry for a few minutes before writing again.

It's been a little while, but I'd very much like to bring you to my wonder again. Hopefully, this time I can get us close to where the main city seems to be and we can see what we can learn together! If not, may we visit your homeworld? I'd love to see your namesake as well! I'm not sure when you're free, but hopefully we can just text and sort it out!

Leonora finished and signed the letter, no with her name but the same symbol as her signet ring. Hopefully Candice would know who it was and.they could meet up again. She checked her phone again and noticed the time. The next client would be coming in soon, so she unlocked her drawer and put the letter in with her rings. Leonora locked them again and went to get ready.

Hopefully she would be able to send the letter without issues.
