Cosine nodded, if that day came she would be ready to listen. It was something she was good at. She could feel the fear within him, Sorrow. They were not so different in power, the two of them. Though she had the advantage of a balance.
"I certainly would be interested in meeting them." She turned her eyes back to her nephew, she certainly did not like the darkness that kept clouding him.
"You can't let Sorrow consume you. It's not an easy emotion to control."

 "I know." Oh, he knew that. "It is just a lot to think about. I need time to process it. Understand what happened." The how and the what and the why.
Emotion was not something one should likely try to rationalize, which did not mean he would not damn well try.

Cosine breathed deeply and reached out to place a hand on his arm.
"I understand that whatever happened to you was bad, very bad and that ... it will take time for you to overcome it. But ... please take my advice and do not dedicate too much time trying to make sense of it. You will end up introverted, self pitying, there are many gods reborn who are absent from these halls for that very reason. Consumed by self. Your father included."

Cosine was right on one point. The advice was sound, but he was not especially a fan of the comparison. "My father made that particular rift on his own a long time ago, and I have no urge to try to fix it anymore. It is not I who needs him." They both knew exactly who did, and who would until her heart finally broke, and she would be left to pick up the pieces.
He had almost asked Rio to intervene, really... But he figured it was not his place to ask for such a thing. But if things got too bad... Then perhaps there would be no other choice. It mattered not for him if Echo kept up pretenses - for the sake of his siblings, perhaps, because it certainly was not for his sake - he wanted her happy.
That said... "I do not have any intention to follow his example, though. I will keep that in mind. I..." He paused. "...I was not aware I could actually do what I did, back there." Apparently he was talking about it, now. Lament frowned quietly to himself before continuing. He was not aware he could be so angry. It had been like a mindless haze, overcoming and overflowing. "...I think the only thing that stopped me from killing that witch was the fact that Tien had claimed her life."

Cosine smiled a little. That had not quite been what she meant but ah well, this was not the time to get into the fine details of things really. She was worried about Echo however and added a note to herself to seek the other goddess out.
"I had a similar experience. I used Sorrow to punish and it felt ..." She breathed in. "Good, at the time. That power, knowing it was mine to do what I wanted but, something inside me stopped that part of me. I can't explain it. Maybe it was my rational side. It's disturbing but something we should learn to live with and control as we grow I hope."

Lament frowned, clearly looking thoughtful as his aunt spoke. "That is... Exactly how I felt." And exactly why it had bothered him to much. "She had made so many suffer." Drove Trickery to madness, killed her lover, killed her own patron goddess... To say nothing of the countless generation of mir'eshu that had lived under her rule.
"She killed so many... Made so many people suffer... It had to be done. She deserved it. But it bother me that I liked seeing her suffer. I loved every scream, every second of it and... That is not me." Not at all. He had never liked to see someone suffer before. He had understood it as part of balance and life, but he had never found joy in it. Until her.

"It's an unsettling feeling, to see what we are capable of." Cosine replied. As with mortals they all had a capacity for darkness, for evil. She thought about his words carefully before answering.
"I think, the fact that you didn't like that feeling. The fact it feels wrong means a lot. It means that's not you, it's not your guiding emotion. So I would not worry too much about it. She was obviously an extreme circumstance."

"It is." He had no idea he was even capable of such a thing, and it was startling just how angry he had been.
An angry god was not something one would likely want to mess with. "That... makes sense." He decided. "Sometimes we have no other choice but to do things like this, because the bad that our inaction would bring.... Would be worse than the bad our actions would do." At least, that had been the case here.

Cosine nodded in agreement.
"Yes, yes that's exactly it." She reached for another book to check it over carefully. "We all have this capability but what sets us apart is the way we use it." She winked and opened the book. "Now, enough of this melancholy, show me how to do this properly, I'm sure I'm making a mess."

They all had the capacity to be good or bad... It was something to think about. Later, most likely, as it seemed like Cosine was doing her best to stop any attempt at further discussing this. He could not help but be a little amused.
"You are not doing badly at all." Still, he would focus on showing her properly.
