Sophie stopped staring at a woman who was walking rather slowly, though she picked up her pace considerably when she realized she was being stared at, and looked back at the girl she was escorting. Before this, she hadn't even realized that she had put herself in harm's way for a total stranger. It was just gut reaction. She knew she had to help, even if she didn't know who she was helping or what she was helping them with.

Still, it was nice to be on an any-name basis. "Sophie," she offered, holding out her hand. "And please, don't mention it. I'm glad to be of assistance." And gladder still that neither of them had become monster chow in the process.

She was content to keep walking for another couple of moments before the desire to ask the question in her mind became unbearable. "How many of those things have you seen before, anyway?"

Yvette's cheeks grew rosy at the inquiry of the number of monsters she had encountered.

"...well... I never really kept count... but at least a handful..." She paused to tap her chin slightly, murmuring out "...there was the one that put Daddy into the hospital... and another which some man who went by Camelot saved me... I am pretty sure there were a couple others..." Even the mention of the monster that had hurt her Daddy made her frown quite fiercely. It was not a fond memory and had led to quite a few hardships for the family.

The girl soon enough made another turn and within a block, the familiar bus stop came into view. "...I hope Mommy isn't too worried..." Her steps slowed slightly so she could swivel to face her savior for the day. "Um... thankyouforwalkingmehere...Ishouldbefinenow...Ithink..."

"A handful?!" Sophie's eyes widened again as she listened to Yvette counting off her monster encounters. That these things were so common, and that they could do enough damage to hospitalize someone- and not just anyone, but a grown man- shocked her. Still more shocking was the fact that she'd had no clue that such things existed before that night.

Or did she? Her meeting with Zia flashed into her mind briefly. Clearly some people knew more than others, but why? "Why don't more people know about this? It's a matter of safety! There should be... I don't know, warnings on the news, or a taskforce, or something!" At the very least, she had to bring it to SCYDC's attention somehow.

As they approached the bus stop, Sophie checked the time on her cell phone. "I don't want to leave you until I'm sure you're safe," she said stubbornly. "When did you say the next bus was?" She was tired and really wanted to get home herself, but would never get over it if she left and this girl would up on the eleven o'clock news.

The girl managed to take another look at the watch upon her wrist.

"Well, I think maybe five minutes now..." she commented before lowering her hand again. "I mean I should be fine... but I guess if you want to stay, that's fine too..."

She made herself a place upon the bench by the stop, sitting down so there was enough room for Sophie to sit down if she wanted to. With a slight sigh, she tried to come up with an explanation for the brunette's question.

"Most people only encounter the monsters once or twice is my guess... so it's easy to just say it is a dream of a delusion. Daddy blames the concussion for why he thought he saw a monster... you just... stop deluding yourself after a while if you keep encountering them..."

Five minutes was a small price to pay for peace of mind, so Sophie nodded and showed absolutely no sign of moving. This was mostly because she wanted to do everything in her power to make sure that this girl made it home safely. But it was also partly because this discussion was interesting, and while she appeared only casually entertained, her mind was racing.

A few puzzle pieces shifted in her head. The uptick of hospital visits by Destiny City's youth, attributed to drugs and gang violence. SCYDC's recent offerings of self-defense classes, to help people in these sorts of situations. A large number of news stories about mass hallucinations, or people seeing strange things as a result of common phenomena, like the weather balloon a couple years back.

"You've seen enough of them that you've stopped deluding yourself, then?" Sophie smiled. "And you've certainly pulled the wool away from my eyes. I think I'll be somewhat safer now that I know the sorts of things lurking around out here. But you should be more careful, if you've seen as many of these as you say you have. Someone won't always be there to help."

But someone would always be trying, even if she was the only someone who cared.

"...I can only be as safe as my legs allow..."

It might have seemed like an odd statement, but for Yvette it was the absolute truth. It would have been much safer for her if she stayed home at all times, but even then the monsters had invaded that one time.

Soon enough, the approach of headlights drew near, signaling that the bus had indeed made it to the stop. It pulled up and the door opened, and rather easily Yvette hopped onto the first step inside.

"....th-thank you again for your help, Sophie..." she said quietly before continuing up the steps. The driver glanced to the brunette outside, as if questioning if she'd be coming along. When it seemed as if Sophie would not be joining them, the door shut and soon enough the bus was on its way again.

Sophie frowned as Yvette brought up her medical condition again. It sounded like there was nothing to be done about it- she'd had a bit of experience with hospital bureaucracy before- but it was still worrying. "Well, just be as careful as you can." Hopefully that would be enough.

The bus came right on schedule, and Sophie was rather relieved that she could finally consider her job well done. "Don't mention it, Yvette! It was nice meeting you!" Even though the circumstances hadn't been entirely pleasant, and she was in no rush to repeat them, it had definitely been educational.

Plus, she had helped someone in need, and that was all she ever really wanted to do.
