Gene thought a bit more, placing a finger to her lips as she let out a little 'hmmm'. Flowers and dreams and demons, while Gene was ghosts and mirrors and shifting.
What to even make out of that?
Blooming Mirror? No, that sounded awful even in her head, like some kind of awkward thing some cheesy video game character would say while attacking.
Ghostly Dreams sounded a bit better, but not much. More like some odd romance novel.
"Hmm....Shifting Blossoms?" Gene started, suddenly excited. Jack, that actually sounded good, and it avoided all the cafe cliches! Perfect!

Oh.
Oh, that was perfect.
"You're a genius, Gene!" Xiu beamed, clasping her hands together, "That's a beautiful name! And it meets all the requirements!" Shifting Blossoms. Unlike some of the other cafe names she had seen, it was not tacky or punny, but elegant. It would definitely suit their (soon to be) classy but welcoming establishment.
A little ding let her know that the mini pies were done. Grabbing an oven mitt, the baku hurried to pull them out, and...ahh. The smell of freshly baked pie filled the air, and as she slid the muffin tin out of the oven, she caught a glimpse of the perfectly baked pastries.
"I think this should definitely be on the menu. With a little ice cream, it'll be perfect."

"Ah, no no. I'm not really a genius." Gene waved her hand, blushing lightly. "I'm just...good, I guess, at naming things. I came up with Paramourne, actually..." A sidelong look to the wall was given as she remembered why that name had even been come up with, and what came after.
Never again was she listening to Danny or Amphi about what to wear.
Ooooh, the pies smelled hellish. She smiled as the aroma made its way through her nostrils and into her waiting stomach. It was a sad thing, that she couldn't make treats but loved them.
"Mmm, yes. Jack, if we just sold the smell of these things we'de be rich." A little giggle as she headed for Xiu's freezer. "Do you have any ice cream, by the way?"

Xiu shook her head, the smile never leaving her lips, "That's a talent in and of itself," She insisted, nodding enthusiastically, "I mean, not everyone can come up with such nice names! That's just one of your many gifts, then!" The baku, for one, did not think that she herself had the gift of good-naming sense. While her names for things were not necessarily terrible, they tended to take her a lot (a lot) of thinking and mulling over.
She reached into a cupboard and drawer to grab plates and forks before nodding at Gene's question. "Yes! It's just in the freezer, feel free to grab it. I'm going to get you a box too, so that you can bring some of these back to your dorm with you after."
The pies would have to cool a bit before getting packed up, but Xiu got out the flattened box and a roll of ribbon anyways, folding the box into shape so that the pastries could be ready to go whenever.

Gene nodded to Xiu with a smile and opened the freezer, searching momentarily for the ice cream and finding it rather easily. They'd need to let it thaw for a bit, which would give the pies some time to cool down to an edible temperature.
"Ah, thanks. I'll be sure to share them with Frost and Danny." She said as she watched Xiu do her thing with the box and the ribbon. Such a crafty one, the Baku was. Definitely a good business partner, even a better friend to have around.
As they waited, Gene leaned on the counter, taking in the aroma of the pie and smiling coyly at Xiu. "So, she started, eyebrows raising, "any boils stealing your fancy?"

Xiu moved quickly, popping the little pies out of the muffin tin and transferring them to a cooling rack so that they could cool down a little faster. Giggling at Gene, she turned to give the ghost ghoul a grin and an approving nod. "These are always tasty treats to share! Just be careful--sometimes, if you tell someone that you made something, they'll bother you for more next time." The baku's voice was light and teasing to indicate that she wasn't serious though. That being said, even if someone did nag her for more treats, Xiu probably wouldn't say no--she was happy to make others happy, and baking was always a welcome hobby for her.
She was about to pop open the ice cream container and check on the consistancy when Gene's question made her freeze. Eyes widening, she turned to look at the ghoul, cocking her head to the side.
"I, ah...no? Why?" A pause, and then she smiled mischievously, "Oh, what about you?"

Pffft, Xiu didn't need to worry about Gene getting pestered for treats. The only person who would eat anything Gene made on her own would be Danny, because the Doppelganger burned everything she tried to bake without assistance. Then again, practice made perfect.
She'd just have to keep on trying - and feeding the failures to her fire demon of a little sister.
Raising her brows at the Baku's returned smile, Gene grinned a tad bit wider,a stray finger fiddling with her hair. "Well, not emotionally. There's plenty of cute boils here, though." Her face took on a darker blue color around the cheeks, indicating a blush. "Like Mot, for instance - and Frost."

Well...okay, Xiu couldn't deny that while she didn't have a crush on anyone in particular, there were certainly some attractive boils in the school. The baku looked a little embarrassed as she grinned at Gene, lifting a hand to scratch at her cheek.
"I...I suppose so," She admitted, her own cheeks turning a little pink, "I mean, uh, I guess there are a lot of cool boils in our school...? I think we're lucky to be blessed with a friendly student body too." At least, with the exception of maybe one or two people, the baku found that everyone here was really quite nice. Plenty of very polite gentlemen students too.
...b-but anyways. Knowing that they'd taste best served warm and fresh, Xiu slid a mini pie into each bowl before spooning a big dollop of ice cream on the side. Holding one of the bowls out to Gene, she grinned. "Ready to try some?"

Xiu's blush made Gene grin a little wider, knowing that she wasn't the only one who got a little flustered when talking about handsome boils. She didn't get the opportunity to talk ghouly a lot, since Frost was a boil and Danny would just end up talking about Rikki.
Well, now she had her ghoul talk friend, and a business partner to boot!
"Oh Jack am I." She exclaimed, eyeing the bowl hungrily as she dug her spoon in, getting both pie and ice cream on the utensil - the perfect bite.
she held the spoon in the air, beaming. "To shifting blossoms."

When she thought about it, she had a lot of ghoul friends...but none who she actually talked to about ghouly things. As redfaced as it made it, it was admittedly kind of nice to giggle with someone over this kind of stuff.
Grinning at Gene's enthusiasm, Xiu glanced down at her own bowl to gather up equal amounts of warm pie and ice cream on her spoon. Jack, this really did smell good, didn't it? She giggled a little at the toast, her voice becoming solemn--but the smile never leaving her face--as she lifted her own spoon.
"To shifting blossoms," She echoed, before finally taking the bite. She said nothing as she chewed, but if her wagging tail was any indication, she really liked it.
After she finally finished chewing and swallowing, she shot her friend a smile. "Nothing better than fresh pie and ice cream!"

Smiling sweetly at Xiu, Gene took in her bite and nearly died of how amazing the dessert was. Just the right amount of spices hit her tongue as she bit into the gooey apple center, coupled with the smooth and rich vanilla of the icecream - it was amazing. This little treat lacked in only one way.
"Mmmm, a medium roast with notes of ginger and cinnamon would be lovely with it." She sighed wistfully, taking another bite. Jack, they were good - they would probably have these little guys flying off the shelves.
Another blissful sigh as she took another bite, savoring everything that was happening in her mouth. She'd need to watch out around Xiu, it seemed, else she have to spend hours in the gym to maintain her figure.
"You're great, Xiu. Absolutely great."

Laughing, the baku nodded eagerly, her tail still swishing behind her as she pointed her spoon at Gene. "Yes! And that's where your amazing creations come in. Paired together, they'd be..." Amazing. Heavenly. Perfect. Who could resist something that was so tasty and warming, especially at this time of year, right?
Making the menu, Xiu decided, was going to be a blast.
The compliment earned a surprised look, and then the baku's face grew red as she tore her gaze away from Gene and back to her dessert. "N-no, not at all! Honestly, you're the great one--you suggested the mini apple pies, and it's your work that will ultimately complete this dessert!" There was a pause, and then she finally looked back to the ghost ghoul with a grin.
"We should definitely do this when we're coming up with a menu though. Making everything, pairing them up, and trying them, I mean." A pause, and then, "...Or maybe having others try them too, lest we get too full."

"Pffft, please Xiu - without your treats my coffee would just be something people picked up for a caffeine boost - and I wouldn't even know how to make those pies." She waved her hand, but realized that by doing so she was insinuating that the Baku's opinion wasn't worth listening to. That wasn't very nice.
"Though, honestly, I think we're both just great. Without each other, our creations wouldn't be completely whole. So...yeah! Go team!" She chirped, taking her final bite of pie and giving a satisfied sigh.
"Yeah, I think getting others to try our things would be good." She giggled, poking her own stomach. "Don't want to lose our figures now, do we?"

This seemed like one of those friendly debates that would go around forever in circles, so Xiu was glad when Gene did exactly what she had been thinking: stating that it was teamwork that ultimately made this work. Laughing, the baku nodded enthusiastically. "That's right! Skills that create great things individually, but make incredible things when put together, right?"
Setting her dirty plate in the sink, Xiu grinned, giggling as she nodding. "Right? Good thing we have friends who we can rope in to help." And it wasn't as if they'd complain either, she was sure. Really, who would complain about getting to eat simple but tasty cafe treats for free? Not many, she was sure.
Turning back to the pasty box with the extra mini pies that she had packed up earlier, she picked it up and held it out to Gene. "Here you are, these are yours! They're still warm and fresh, so you should eat them--or get others to help you eat them--as soon as possible!"

Smiling warmly when the box was pressed into her hands, Gene got up to give the Baku a very warm and affectionate hug, followed by a quick peck to the cheek.
"Will do - and thanks for today. See you soon, m'kay sweetie?" She said sweetly, stepping back and giving a little wave while she walked backwards through a the wall of the ghoul's room and made her way back to the Ghost student's crypt, in search of a certain white puppy that needed to taste the deliciousness in the box.
Her smile never faded that day as she thought about future prospects and customers, and what their menu would all entail - but most importantly, she thought of what a great experience this cafe venture would be and the many days of doing what she loved with someone she found herself pleasantly getting along with.
Yeah, she had a future - that was for certain.
