The travel so far was, decent, Arachne decided. It was much more peaceful then her previous travels that was for sure. However the travel was starting to become more troublesome. She let out a sigh. Of course it would. She should have known.

She was still new to Ithambo'hlabathi, but that didn't mean she would hesitate to state her opinions. There were many good ideas being thrown out, however she agreed with those who wanted to find a new water source. It would be just as risky, however it felt like the right move. She felt that they could find a safer water source somewhere else where they wouldn't have to deal with those baboons or crocodiles.

"I agree that we should find a new water source." She spoke up for the first time on the trip.

((I hope I'm allowed to join in. o.o; I'm pretty sure these cubs are born so . . . feel free to chide me if I'm mistaken! *is itching to get her baby devloped*))

She had never been on a migration before, and all of the walking was exhausting. Even though they moved frequently by night, and though the young cub tended to take a slower pace with the rest of her siblings, that didn't much curb the soreness of her paws, the fatigue of her limbs, or the dryness on her tongue. The blue eyed Thulile was thirsty, but she bit back her complaints. This was Seriously Business, and while it would have been easy to whine and cry about her lot in life, the other females took on to moving without complaint, so she should too. She was getting bigger and older, after all (or so she believed) and there was nothing more important to a cub than Growing Up As Soon As Possible.

If she wanted to be treated like an adult, than surely she needed to mimic the other females. Thulile wasn't entirely sure why they were moving, but she would follow and listen, and do her best to keep out of their way.

Unfortunately, the rumor of water perked the cubs spirits. Water was good, water was tasty, and water was just what she wanted! So it was, the golden female had picked her way closer to the front of the crowd, the demand for a drink too hard to pass up. Unfortunately, though, what did stop her was the sound of baboons. . . and rocks! Oh dear, oh dear.

Half-startled, the cub bolted closer to one of the older females. She didn't want to hide, or look weak, but she was smart enough to want to dodge the rocks if more came. Besides, there weren't just rocks threatening them. Her eyes fell upon a most peculiar looking animal . . . was it a wild dog or a hyena (sometimes she got the two confused in her young age). . . . And there were a few strange lionesses she had never witnessed before as well.

. . . yeah, maybe leaving her siblings and mother behind hadn't been her wisest choice. Still, she couldn't completely cower down, could she? Her little ears twisted this way and that as she listened to others talk about leaving, or attacking the baboons. Thulile's heart sank and her disappointment was easy to read. If they left, that would mean she wouldn't get a drink. . . and she wanted one so badly. But fighting with the baboons didn't seem like a good idea either, as that meant someone could get hurt. She couldn't fight them anyway, even if she tried. She was too weak, too little, and it was . . . frustrating. If only she could be grown up, strong enough to be useful.

Heaving a sigh, she glanced up to the closest female next to her. "Why can't we talk it out? The baboons should learn to share." She spoke, perhaps a little a sadly. Life was still new, and there was still much for the little cub to learn about the circle of life. Not everything was pretty, after all, or ended happily ever after. The world was tough, violent, and a place where only the strong would survive. It was a hard lesson, but one Thulile would have to learn one way or another.

Hari was beginning to get worried. A lot of the other lions seemed to want to attack the baboons, or try to reason with them. Normally she would be all for it - while vicious, baboons were no match for an entire pride of lions - but this situation was different. They had only just begun their long summer migration, and they couldn't afford to get injuries. Besides, that crocodile was definitely worth thinking about.

However strongly she thought that leaving while they were still only bruised was the best idea, Hari was prepared to stay and attempt to chase off the raucous primates if that's what her pridemates decided. Unfortunately, it seemed that more and more pridemates were deciding to stay, some to organize a battle with the pesky, stone-hurling furballs or to try to reason with them - as if baboons were smart enough to be reasoned with. And now, there was a strange lioness not from their pride that was offering to help them if they chose to fight.

Suddenly, a small golden cub darted over to her. Her pleading eyes as she suggested trying to reason with the baboons made Hari's heart melt; the poor thing was probably terrified, and parched on top of that. Her heart was soon seized with fear when she realized that the appearance of this cub meant the others couldn't be too far behind, and that meant that they would be in danger. Hari's neck fur bristled and she steeled herself to protect Thulile. This situation just became a lot more dangerous.

Wodi had been spending most of her time near the back of the group, thanks to her relatively young set of cubs. Having to shepherd them along instead of going at her own, much faster pace, was definitely an adjustment for the first-time mother. She wasn't coddling them - that was just about the last thing she'd ever do! - but the fact remained that cubs were cubs, and baby lions would never be known for their endurance capabilities.

When the commotion and rock-throwing began, she wasted no time in soldiering forward to see what the hell was going on. And, of course, offer her opinion.

The small lioness flattened her ears and curled her lips up in a snarl, glaring in the direction of the baboons. "We could take them," she put in, looking as though she would relish the chance for a fight, and her words took on a tone of disappointment as she continued, "But someone would probably get hurt. We should move on."

She then cleared her throat and turned her attention to the strangers in their midst to regard them suspiciously. "Is it just me, or are there more of us here than there were when we started?"

There was plenty of action going on, and more than enough chaos to keep Kayin cowed for once in his life. Large as he was for his age, he was still just a baby and no match for the rocks that were now raining down on them. Even one of the smaller ones hitting him in the right place could cause some fairly serious damage, and... well, Kayin was a tough boy, but he didn't like pain.

Luckily, he was rescued from his mildly pathetic state by the sight of his sister, the sight of whom sat him bolt upright, back rigid as he watched her barely dodge out of harm's way. Oh, now he was not about to stand for that! His sister was probably one of the few creatures up front smaller than him right now, and that alone was enough of a boon for his courage and his ego.

"THULILE!" Kayin barked, dashing out from the safety of Ora's shadow toward his sister and the lioness that had taken Thulile under her wing. "What are you doing here?" He demanded, forgetting the fact that he, too, had put himself in harm's way. No, he was all about playing the role of Big Brother now, and he planted himself firmly in front of his sister, hair bristling and tiny teeth bared.

-
Ora was almost glad when Kayin suddenly pelted out from under her paws. It might have looked safer for the cub, but the lioness herself had been so busy dodging the falling rocks that twice, she had almost knocked Kayin over in her haste to shift to safety.

It would be easier to stay nimble without having a little cub lurking underfoot, but still, it didn't seem prudent to let him bristle out in the open like that, so Ora hastily made her way over to Hari, breathless from the situation at hand.

"Kayin, get under cover!" She hissed, grabbing the large cub and pulling him back to safety. There would be no playing the hero today for him, not when playing could so easily lead to more trouble. To Hari, she cast a sideways glance, as if to ensure that the lioness was not a passing rogue, and said, "I think we need to try and reason with them a little bit." Ora was possessed of a fiery heart, and she wouldn't so easily give up what she felt they had earned through longs hours of travel. But at this point, fighting didn't seem smart. Not with all the cubs, anyway.

((Kayin has no opinion; Ora, for once, is being smart and not rushing into action))

Ulaka didn't appear to harbor any ill-will towards Mhisani. No, she was too preoccupied with getting out of the range of the baboons. Whether or not they were leaving, she'd be moving to the very back of the group.

Matifa, however, was moving forwards and towards the baboons. Her feet sunk carefully. "If we could just reason with them, maybe they'd let us drink from their spot."

Ulaka was shaking mud off her paws, face contorted into a grimace. "C'mon, Matifa, even the busisa are telling us it's a good idea to leave!" Where the heck were the damn Abaholi? Still in the back with all the exhausted cubs, probably. Maybe some of the elderly.

Ulaka ended up side by side with Wodi in time to hear about all the rogues. As if opening her eyes for the first time, she took a glance around her. "Hey, yeah. What's their deal? This isn't a celebration at the water hole." They could get their laughs elsewhere!

Meanwhile, there was another thump as the baboons turned around. Matifa had narrowly avoided getting struck with another stone. Frustrated, she let out a loud sound and turned around as well. It seemed the majority had spoken: it was time to travel.

"The sun's rising," Matifa tried, one last time. She shoved the nearest lion to her with her nose to keep them traveling. "We'll be parched in no time."

Ulaka sniffed. The funny thing about being at the back of the group was that you were at the front when everyone turned around. "Good luck," she passed to a dark colored rogue with yellow markings. "Maybe you can knock down half of them before you get swarmed." She certainly wasn't sticking around to let them.

A jeering began from behind them. As if saying 'run cowards', one of the baboons had loped up and tugged the tail of the last person in the group. Which, in this instance, happened to be Sanele. A second made it to Matifa's foot before the young lioness turned around and swatted at one with unsheathed claws. The laughing baboons scrambled, but were clearly joyous as they retreated to their safe bank.

Hari flattened her ears against her head as another cub came racing toward her. She recognized Kayin and was not overjoyed at having to watch a youngster that was determined to be a hero. Hearing more paw steps rushing toward her, Hari glanced up and relaxed when she saw that the approaching lioness was Ora, a watcher of sorts for Kayin.

While Hari didn't agree with Ora's opinion, she knew the lioness to be quite hot-headed and so she didn't bother to argue. She simply shifted her position so the two of them formed more of a protective barrier as the baboons returned their attention to the pride. Hackles raised and teeth bared, she prepared to defend the cubs. Then, the order was given to keep travelling and find another place to rest.

"It looks like we're moving out." Hari heaved a deep sigh of relief and padded Southeast with the rest of the pride. She was lucky to be in the middle of the group, and escape the harassment of the baboons as the lions retreated.

Once she had checked on her sister, Nyesui backed up slightly and waited to see what they were going to do; whether they were going to try to reason with the aggravating monkeys like some had suggested they do or if they would try to find another water source away from stone throwing baboons and threatening crocodiles. She watched as another baboon threw a stone at one of the pair that was trying to lead them. She could understand wanting to retaliate against the baboons but it wouldn't be the smart thing to do. They would be swarmed if they tried to fight or even reason with them.

It was best to retreat. Even though the sun was rising, it would be better to deal with the sun than the baboons. Who knows what kind of damage they could do with those stones? One well placed aim and they would be without a member of the pride. She lightly sniffed the air and became curious as to which way they would go.

Thulile did not know Hari well, but she knew enough to know that the lioness was part of the pride. Surely the other females wouldn't have allowed a stranger to get so far entangled, and she smelled of kin, so that was reassuring. Still, no words were spoken, other than that lioness taking a bit of a protective stance around her. . . . Maybe that meant the rocks wouldn't hit her, which was good. They were hard to see, so difficult to dodge, so she'd appreciate the aid.

Surprisingly, while Hari did not speak to her (maybe she hadn't heard?), a voice did break through the craziness, and it was a voice she knew well. Ears pricked, blue eyes going wide with surprise and joy, the little golden patched cub almost ran out to meet her brother, Kayin, before a rock reminded her that it was not safe to do so! Scurrying back against Hari, the cubs smile quickly turned in to a frown when her brother bristled and grumped and demanded to know what she was doing. "What are you doing here! I din't want to stay back there," she explained, as if this was as natural as anything. "I wanted to see what was going on up here, and there was water, and . . ."

Another voice spoke out, this time of Matifa. It was true, the sun was rising, which meant it was going to get even hotter, and even more tiring. Worst of all, they appeared to be turning around, giving up the source of water they had only just found. Oh. . . . oh no.

Her tail swished irritably behind her, and she looked forlornly at her brother. ". . . water we don't get to drink." She amended. Maybe it was better to go back behind where her mother and other siblings were likely stationed. If everyone was moving again, it meant it was time to move with him. Baring her little teeth, the usually good-natured cub gave one little growl at the baboons they were retreating from; had they not met them this wouldn't have happened. "Nobody taught them how to share." She sniffed, her disappointment apparently even as she scurried forward to follow the rest of the group.

Hadharani wasn't waiting for too long to get out of there and away from the baboons. She was close to the front of the group and glad to get away from the rock throwing baboons. She choose to stay in the middle of the group surrounded by the lionesses of her pride. She was surrounded by bodies and could not see where they were headed but she was not too concerned about it as she trusted her family with all her life.

As they set off, Hari felt a little glad that Thulile hadn't fallen back to go find her mother. The golden she-cub had spunk, and Hari loved her innocent anger. She would have been a little sad to see her go. Hari chuckled when Thulile grumbled about the baboons not having been taught to share; it was probably the cutest thing she'd ever heard.

"You're right, Thulile. It was incredibly rude of those stupid furballs to keep us from drinking. Little one, I want you to know that if you get too hot, you can always walk underneath me. It's not much shade, but it's something."

Hari dipped her head and gave Thulile an affectionate lick between the ears. She couldn't wait until she had cubs of her own, and she hoped that at least one turned out like Thulile.

As they left the baboons behind, Ulaka found the grass was still tall towards the east. It tickled her nose as she walked, but made an easy path to follow.

"Single file!" she called back. The adult paws would trample down the golden colored grass and allow cubs plenty of ease in walking. They wouldn't want to loose anyone in this mess.

"Am I the only one bothered by this grass?" It was Matifa's voice calling up from the middle of the group. She'd paused, stopping half the line, to scratch restlessly at a spot behind her front shoulder.

Towards the front, Ulaka had come to a quiet still.

In place of her voice, there came the sounds of snarls. They were loud, like that of an angry, panicked lion. And the voice was deep.

Another sound answered it, distinctly foreign. It was like a wheezing rush of air, abruptly halted by trampling feet and thrashing. But there was another sound - splashes! They'd found water, though it sounded already occupied. Just their luck.

"I don't want to deal with more baboons," Ulaka whispered out. If these were even baboons at all - it sure didn't sound like them. "Let's see if we can separate and approach slowly."

Hari was very disturbed by the noises, and not just because she couldn't see the source. They had just left a watering hole to avoid fighting, and they were going to approach another with sounds like that coming from it? Shrugging her shoulders, she nudged Thulile further behind her and crouched low in the tall grass, resigned to serve the pride whether she agreed with their decision or not. She began to creep paw-over-paw toward the strange noises, ears pricked forward and whiskers twitching, her sides hardly moving as she stilled her breath as much as she could, alert for the slightest sign that she'd been spotted. So far so good...

"Stupid monkeys," Wodi grumbled under her breath. Oh, she wanted to fight them, but she had enough sense to know that it was probably a bad idea. It didn't stop her from shooting a look back to snarl at them as they laughed and retreated. She wanted a piece of them now more than ever! But no, that would just be stupid. So she flattened her ears and moved off with the group, then hurried to fall into line when the call to go single-file came, keeping a wary eye on the strangers to see whether or not they would tag along. Hopefully not.

And then came the snarling. The splotchy lioness grimaced and slowed, suddenly regretting separating herself from her cubs, but she reminded herself that no one would let anything happen to them. Especially Surtak. If he did, there would Trouble.

Hadharani glanced around looking for her sister Nyesui. She had a hard time finding her but she finally did towards the back of the group. As they got into a single file Hadharani found herself right behind Matifa and when she came to a stop she pretty much ran right into her butt. She shook herself a bit to recover and then stiffened. The sounds ahead made her extremely nervous. She really didn't want to get tangled up with whatever was ahead. She tip toed as quietly as she could to get around whatever was ahead of them.
