I like to keep my flute clean, but I get very little time to do so. I try to clean out my headjoint every time I play, and I try to do a full soak/clean every week, and I try to polish it every couple of months. I just don't have the time, because I'm a**l about cleaning when I do clean it!

I clean the insides everytime I play, but I only polish it when I'm bored, or ther finger prints are really starting to bother me. I have a used flute off of Ebay (even though I told my dad not to get it off Ebay), and it wasn't shiny when I got it and I don't think it ever will be, but it would be nice if my flute was actually shiny for once. I like shiny things...

I don't have to clean my flute after class, but I normally do at home and when I have time. And when I get bored I polish it, so it doesn't completely look like crap.

It shows when flutes are dirty. Especially the mouth piece. I don't clean my flute obsessively, but I keep it clean. In class I only clean the mouthpeice
But dirty flutes look gross. And makes the pads stick

I clean my clarinet after I play it.
But only when I'm playing my own clarinet if it's the school clarinet, not a chance to me cleaning it.

I'm so bad I swear. I'm a flute player and out of the entire year I clean my flute like three times. Once before my second to last field show and twice on the day of my last field show (because on that day here's my schedule: Parade, Field show, Senior circle back at my high school. So I'm playing my flute for like twelve hours straight on that day). During concert season I just tip my flute over and tap it on the ground to let the spit drain out and that's my cleaning then. I've had the same flute for six years (and it started out as a rental flute before I bought it) and it still plays perfect.

man, before my cleaning kit broke, i was addicted to cleaning my flute all the time! especially during marching band because imagine wearing sunblock outside with greasy hands and getting all that grease on your tiny flute...YUCK! but even in the band room during ensembles, i'm constantly cleaning it because i could play better with less spit in it

I can't stand it when there're fingerprints all over my flute and it doesn't look shiny. For the longest time I had no good way to clean it, and now I got one of those special cloths for it, and I clean it ALL the time. ._. I dunno what it is, but all the flutes in my band are the same way, too. At least, when they put their instrument away they normally clean it a bit/lot. Maybe fingerprints show up on the flute more or something?
It also feels REALLY diry, especially when playing after marching with all the sweat. Maybe it's just a flute thing. Who knows. o_o Good point, I had never though of that, though...
Oh, and on the head joint where you blow into it, I can't STAND it when that thing's dirty, so any time I'm not resting I at least wipe it off with my shirt (Which isn't all gross because it's not that it's dirty, it's just...not perfectly clean and smooth).
