INFORMATION GENERAL Name: Abel Sauveterre Gender: Male Birthday: July 17th House: Hufflepuff Blood Status: Mixedblood Wand: Maple wood (painted), Phoenix Feather core, 11 1/4 inches, Pliable, Smooth surface. Wand Hand: Left PERSONALITY General: Abel is a very emotional boy, ranging from elated to enraged to depressed. He is emotionally affected by a lot of things, including television and books! Music, especially, has been known to outright change his mood. If he listens to slow instrumental music, he'll often become subdued and calm down. He takes full advantage of this and uses music to calm himself down or hype himself up if needed. Unfortunately, due to his heavy accent and mediocre grasp of the English language, it can be difficult for him to explain his emotions with words. He can also be very touchy and volatile due to being full of so many emotions, so one should be careful when bringing up delicate topics. Due to being so emotional, he gets attached to people easily and can come across as a bit clingy. He is also extremely loyal to these people he gets attached to, and would stand up for a friend without hesitation.
Abel is also very imaginative and creative, often prone to bouts of writing and drawing that will keep him busy for hours on end. He truly loves this, and much prefers creative writing to writing essays for class, but who doesn't? However, despite loving to write and draw, he is very reluctant to show others his work at any time. It can take quite a bit of coaxing and convincing to get him to show you even a sketch, so don't expect him to be flaunting his talent. This creativity shows in his classwork, as well. If there is more than one way to do things, even a remote possibility of a second option, Abel will find it and make it work. This may or may not always be the quickest option, but it's always worth a try!
An alternative side to Abel is his cautiousness and how shrewd he can be. He's constantly analyzing things, whether it's a class assignment or another person, or even a group as a whole! He'd very intuitive and resourceful, and certainly responsible. If you need someone to rely on, or someone to go to for advice, you'll probably be satisfied with going to Abel. While he may not always want to provide advice, it's usually good advice when he does choose to help someone. Unfortunately, if he's currently going through an emotional episode, his advice will likely be very rash and not very good. It's best to approach him when he's calm and collected.
Overall, Abel is a sweet kid just trying to get along in England when he has barely lived there for more than a year. He truly does want to make friends, and is a very nice boy once you get to know him. He can be a tiny bit shy, but only in terms of initially approaching someone. Once you get him talking, he's perfectly happy talking to a new person. Habits: Abel will often slip into French when he doesn't know how to say something, or when he's overly emotional (e.g. angry, upset, sobbing). He's also prone to being a bit judgmental, but that's just his analytical side showing through. Lastly, he has a very distracting habit of doodling on his parchment during class, especially when he should be taking notes. He usually does okay despite this, but can often miss important things if they're not announced clearly. Hobbies: Drawing, reading, writing, people-watching, learning new English words and sayings, and playing wizards' chess. Likes: Music, creative writing, birds, wandering the castle in his free time, and speaking his native tongue. Dislikes: Being wrong, all of his emotional outbursts, rude people, not knowing how to explain or say something, and long classes.

DETAILS
FAMILY Mother: Elouise Sauveterre (Marcus) - Mixedblood - Formerly of Hufflepuff Father: Florian Sauveterre - Mixedblood - Formerly of Beauxbatons Siblings: None Extended Family: Cerise Sauveterre - Paternal Grandmother - Currently living in France Relationship with Family: Despite Abel's parents' busy schedules, Abel is still fairly close to them. He talks to them when he can, and they reply when they can. When he's home, they are very casual and calm around each other. They don't go out of their way to do things together, but they usually do hang out around the house when Elouise and Florian are not at work. They try to have dinner together every night when Abel is home for the summer, unless Florian cannot get away from work for the night.
HISTORY General History: While Abel may not necessarily look it, he was born in Paris, France, and lived there for the majority of his life. It was a happy life, with his parents and a few pets in a nice apartment near the city center. Abel went to school at normal Muggle institutions, made plenty of little Muggle friends, and flourished in the city without much need for help. His father worked at a little clinic a few blocks away from their apartment, and his mother was a preschool teacher. This allowed him to spend quite a bit of time with her when he was very young, and he became quite attached to her.
Unfortunately, Abel's life would be uprooted shortly after he turned nine. His father was offered a high-paying job in England, in a large hospital in downtown London. It would have been incredibly stupid for him to refuse, and so the trio gathered up their belongings and moved across the English Channel to settle in a nice, spacious flat in downtown London. Elouise managed to find a job at a local elementary school, teaching first-graders, since there were no openings in preschools or kindergartens, and she couldn't afford to be a stay-at-home mother. Abel was thrust into an entire new society, plagued with a thick accent and little grasp of the English language (his mother had been teaching him for a few years, but his accent would never go away). He still has problems explaining himself or controlling his bursts of French words. He doesn't quite feel at home in this new place, and it was only made worse when he discovered his magical blood. His parents had never really forced magic on him, just in case he ended up being a Squib (what with their "impure" blood and all), so he knew next to nothing before receiving his Hogwarts acceptance letter. That's not to say that he is a terrible wizard so far; he seems to have a decent natural talent for magic, especially potion-making. He'd always loved to cook with his mother when she was home, so perhaps that had something to do with it?
So now, on top of being in a new country, Abel must adjust to this entirely new world and huge new school, and to fact that he is not just a normal boy. He seems to be doing mostly alright, but he's also fairly quiet, so it could very well be a facade.

OTHER
MISCELLANEOUS The Sorting: Abel stared around with wide eyes at the large crowd of first years that surrounded him. A few were murmuring to themselves as student after student made their way up and was sorted into one of the four houses. He knew he would probably be near the end, but you never truly knew with magical family names. It had been quite a while, however, and he was still unsorted.
Eventually it became his turn, and he nearly jumped out of his skin with surprise. "Sauveterre, Abel!" The name echoed through the Great Hall, despite the low murmur of conversation, and Abel slowly made his way toward the front of the crowd. As he perched himself on the stool, he whispered a little calming mantra to himself in French. The hat covered all but the lowest bits of his field of vision, which only served to embarrass him more.
"Analytical and creative, good traits for a Ravenclaw, but...you seem to be more concerned with your emotional side." The hat drawled as it muddled over what House to put him in. "There's not a lot of desire to be better that everyone else, so Slytherin probably isn't for you," it murmured, as if it were scratching its chin while it thought aloud. "I think you'd do alright in Gryffindor, but it just doesn't seem like the best fit. So... HUFFLEPUFF!"
The loud voice was startling, and it was quite close to his ears, so Abel flinched a bit at the outburst. As the hat was removed from his head, he glanced at the table decked out in black and yellow, smiling a bit when he saw the other students applauding him. He made his way over and sat down, hoping that this would help him adjust better. "Sank you..." he murmured when a boy patted him on the back, welcoming him.
Boggart: As the cupboard in the classroom was pulled open, Abel silently cursed the professor for deciding to go in reverse-alphabetical order. He was only a few places from the beginning of the line, and he could feel his heart racing. Why the professor had chosen to teach first years about boggarts he would never be able to guess, but it didn't particularly matter either. All that did matter was that he was about to face his worst fear, and he'd be able to see it, not just have to think about it.
As the students in front of him dealt with their fears, only one little girl wiping a few tears away as she moved to the back of the line, Abel's turn had come. The boggart was still recovering from the last student's spell, so he had a few precious seconds to steel himself before it happened. As the creature morphed and shifted, he began to see its shape forming. It was like looking in a mirror, and he gasped when he saw himself standing there. But he looked very different. His dark skin was pallid and dry, eyes sunken in and rimmed with dark circles, and his hair looked like dried out straw. As he watched, the doppleganger took a staggering step forward before letting out a painful wheeze. Its eyes rolled back in its head, and it sunk to the ground with a sickening thud, joints bending in ways that they shouldn't be able to. Abel gasped and shut his eyes shut, turning his face away for a moment.
"Come on Abel, focus! Confront it!" The professor urged him, and Abel glanced at the man with green eyes full of uncertainty. He raised his wand shakily, still not looking at the cadaver on the ground. But he needed to; it was crucial to the spell. So he took a breath and opened his eyes, focusing on the dead body before him. "Riddikulus!" His voice was strong even if it was relatively quiet, and the boggart was clearly affected. It turned into a silly child's doll, raising up and walking about before tripping and falling onto its face. The class laughed as Abel made his way away from the boggart, his entire body shaking. He hoped he didn't have to deal with that again anytime soon.
Mirror of Erised: As he looked into the dirty glass, Abel's lips stretched into a wide smile. He saw himself taller, stronger, and smiling brightly in a room lined with shelves full of glass bottles and vials of every shape, size, and color. They contained things of all kinds, ranging from brightly-colored liquids to moving creatures. He stood before a large cauldron that bubbled and smoked as he added ingredients, and it was clear that he was the owner of an apothecary. He grinned widely, reaching as if to touch the cauldron. But when he found that it wasn't there, his smile faltered. He sighed, frowning with determination in his eyes. "I will get zere someday..." he murmured, turning away from the mirror. He paced out of the room with deliberate steps, off to prepare for his next potions assignment. He had to ace that class!
EXTRA CREDIT Patronus: Abel's patronus is a male markhor, an animal that he has always liked ever since he saw one in a painting. They have always struck him as strong, majestic animals.
Greatest Treasure: He is very attached to a stuffed rooster he received while on a trip to the zoo when he was very little. The thing is rather ratty and old now, but he refuses to retire it or leave it at home. He washes it occasionally, and discreetly slips it into bed with him every night.
Manner of Dress: Abel has rather simple tastes, but always tries to look presentable. He doesn't put much effort into accessorizing or being "fashion-forward", but he does do his best not to look outdated or silly. A simple tie, shirt of some sort, and pants are an outfit of choice.
Favorite Class: Potions, by far. He loves creating the different concoctions and mixing strange ingredients to make totally different things. He especially likes the potions that you wouldn't expect would come from their respective ingredients.
Worst Class: Astronomy. While he does like looking at the stars, Abel just doesn't have the capacity to remember all of them or how they're related, or when they're visible, and so on. He prefers to just look at and admire them, not really think about them.
